Opinions on Maybelle, Maebelle

I saw this is a name of a character on gone with the wind. Pronounced [name_f]May[/name_f]-bell

is it sweet and southern, or country trashy?

I prefer [name_f]Mabel[/name_f], but of these two i like [name_f]Maybelle[/name_f] best. I think sweet and southern over country trashy, for sure.

I like [name_f]Maybelle[/name_f]. It’s sweet and Southern, for sure!

This is all I think about when I hear [name_f]Mabel[/name_f]. From the TV show Mad About You -

[name_m]Paul[/name_m] and [name_u]Jamie[/name_u]'s daughter, [name_f]Mabel[/name_f], got her name from her grandma (played by ‘[name_f]Carol[/name_f] [name_m]Burnett[/name_m] (I)’). When [name_m]Paul[/name_m] and [name_u]Jamie[/name_u] were looking for a name, [name_u]Jamie[/name_u]'s mother said to them, “Mothers always bring extra love” M.A.B.E.L.

I like [name_f]Maybelle[/name_f] I wouldn’t use it personally (other than in my book) but I don’t see anything wrong with it.

[name_f]Maybelle[/name_f] is sweet. I loved it ever since reading [name_m]Bridge[/name_m] to Terebithia. For me, [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] is pronounced more like [name_f]May[/name_f]-Bull as opposed to the prettier [name_f]May[/name_f]-[name_f]Belle[/name_f].

I think [name_f]Maybelle[/name_f] is lovely

i like [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] a lot more.

I like [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] okay (I say it almost like Mayb’l?) and find it charmingly clunky. I find it in keeping with [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] and [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f].

[name_f]Maybelle[/name_f] (may-[name_f]BELLE[/name_f]) is more sweet sounding and a bit rockabilly. I associate it more with [name_f]Dolly[/name_f] and Lilybeth. [name_m]Just[/name_m] as vintage, but more sugary.

I don’t find it trashy. I find it too antique to be trashy, it’s names like [name_f]Kaylynn[/name_f] and Mckinleigh that tip that way for me.

I prefer [name_f]Mabel[/name_f], but out of [name_f]Maybell[/name_f] and [name_f]Maebelle[/name_f], I definitely prefer [name_f]Maybell[/name_f]. I think the name is cute and southern sounded, but I also can’t help thinking of Maybelline make up. Though that’s not necessarily a bad connection.
