Opinions on my list

I’ve been sifting through all the names I have collected on this site (which is quite the list, 250+ names!) and made a new shorter lists of all the names I had that warm hearted tingly feeling towards, if you get what I mean? That kind of feeling that it’s not just a beautiful name, but you could actually imagine it on a future child of yours.

[name_f]Do[/name_f] you like these names? What kind of associations do they come with for you? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think they’re “wearable”?

  • [name_f]Niamh[/name_f] / Nimue (I realise that these are very different names but they look pretty much the same in appearance, I want only one of them on my list, I am leaning much towards Nimue. which one is your favorite?)
  • [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] / [name_f]Livia[/name_f] (same thing as with [name_f]Niamh[/name_f] / Nimue, I can’t quite decide which one I like best though)
  • [name_f]Arabelle[/name_f] / [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] (again, 50/50 towards both) (nn would be [name_f]Belle[/name_f] for both)
  • [name_f]Flora[/name_f]
  • [name_f]Fae[/name_f]
  • [name_f]Sofia[/name_f] (please don’t judge it on popularity alone) (nn [name_f]Fia[/name_f])
  • [name_f]Matilda[/name_f]
  • [name_f]Lune[/name_f] ([name_m]French[/name_m] form of [name_f]Luna[/name_f], I personally think it is more distinctive)
  • [name_f]Arwen[/name_f]
  • [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] (nn would be [name_f]Rosie[/name_f])
  • [name_f]Juliette[/name_f]
  • [name_f]Maeva[/name_f]
  • Naelle (like [name_f]Noelle[/name_f] with an A, “nah-elle”, I’ve never actually heard this on a real girl but I found it on a namelist on a different site and fell in love, although I’d only use it for a mn because the poor girl would probably have to spell her name all her life)
  • [name_f]Naiara[/name_f]
  • [name_f]Nerea[/name_f]
  • [name_f]Aurora[/name_f]
  • [name_f]Niamh[/name_f] / Nimue
I prefer [name_f]Niamh[/name_f]. I like the pronunciation better and I think it’s more wearable, because it’s better known than Nimue.
  • [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] / [name_f]Livia[/name_f]
[name_f]Lilia[/name_f] gets my vote. It sounds more like a full name to me, while [name_f]Livia[/name_f] strikes me as [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] with a forgotten O.
  • [name_f]Arabelle[/name_f] / [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f]
    I prefer [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f]
  • [name_f]Flora[/name_f]
I think [name_f]Flora[/name_f] is a nice name, very feminine yet spunky. very wearable
  • [name_f]Fae[/name_f]
I prefer the [name_f]Faye[/name_f] spelling, but still very nice.
  • [name_f]Sofia[/name_f]
I prefer this spelling over [name_f]Sophia[/name_f], and I don’t think having a popular name is that bad or a reason to scrap name
  • [name_f]Matilda[/name_f]
Wearable, with a positive namesake (from the book)
  • [name_f]Lune[/name_f]
I think [name_f]Luna[/name_f] is more wearable, but it could work.
  • [name_f]Arwen[/name_f]
Very nice. Not as usable as others on your list, but it could be pulled off.
  • [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] (nn would be [name_f]Rosie[/name_f])
    Beautiful
  • [name_f]Juliette[/name_f]
    [name_f]Lovely[/name_f]
  • [name_f]Maeva[/name_f]
I prefer [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] (or [name_f]Maebh[/name_f]), but it is still a lovely name.
  • Naelle
I really like this one, but I agree that spelling might be a problem
  • [name_f]Naiara[/name_f]
Very vowel-y and maybe a bit of a tongue twister for children. But still nice.
  • [name_f]Nerea[/name_f]
    Same as Naelle
  • [name_f]Aurora[/name_f]
A nice classic, that can either work on a girly girl (possible nn [name_f]Aura[/name_f]) and a more tomboyish girl, with the nn [name_u]Rory[/name_u]

I like [name_f]Niamh[/name_f] over Nimue (I can’t pronounce the latter) and [name_f]Livia[/name_f] over [name_f]Lilia[/name_f]. [name_f]Arabelle[/name_f] is more distinctive than [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f], though I prefer [name_f]Arabella[/name_f]. I like [name_f]Arwen[/name_f], [name_f]Juliette[/name_f], and [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] best. [name_f]Lune[/name_f] sounds too much like “loon” to me.

If you like Naelle, perhaps you’d like the historical name [name_u]Yael[/name_u] (the name rhymes with Naelle). It’s rather uncommon, though I know two, and both of them are very lovely people who wear the name well. Nameberry lists it as unisex, but historically, it’s all female.

Pretty list. [name_f]My[/name_f] favorites are

  • [name_f]Flora[/name_f]
  • [name_f]Sofia[/name_f] - mostly for the nn [name_f]Fia[/name_f] - so cute!
  • [name_f]Matilda[/name_f]
  • [name_f]Arwen[/name_f]
  • [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] (nn would be [name_f]Rosie[/name_f])
  • [name_f]Maeva[/name_f]
  • [name_f]Aurora[/name_f]

[name_f]Niamh[/name_f]- I prefer this one to Nimue just for ease of pronunciation. I find Nimue overly difficult to say.
[name_f]Lilia[/name_f]- I actually like [name_f]Livia[/name_f] much better (again, mostly because of ease of pronunciation), but the softer [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] matches the rest of your favorite names better.
[name_f]Isabelle[/name_f]- [name_u]Isa[/name_u] is much prettier than [name_u]Ara[/name_u], in my opinion. Plus, [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] feels more grounded and less frilly for frilly’s sake. The soft sounds in [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] match your style well.
[name_f]Flora[/name_f]- Pretty. I prefer [name_f]Florence[/name_f], but this is nice, too.
[name_f]Fae[/name_f]- I don’t like this, but I understand its appeal for those who like fantasy/nature names.
[name_f]Sofia[/name_f]- I prefer this spelling to [name_f]Sophia[/name_f], and I love the idea of [name_f]Fia[/name_f] as a nickname.
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f]- One of my personal favorites. Definitely my favorite on your list.
[name_f]Lune[/name_f]- [name_m]Even[/name_m] closer to “loon.” Which is too closely associated with crazies.
[name_f]Arwen[/name_f]- I like [name_f]Arwen[/name_f], though I would never be brave enough to use it myself. I’m afraid it would make me seem like a bigger Tolkien fan than I actually am.
[name_f]Rosalind[/name_f]- This is one of those names that looks a lot prettier than it sounds. [name_f]Rosie[/name_f]'s a cute nickname, but I prefer [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f].
[name_f]Juliette[/name_f]- [name_u]Julie[/name_u] is nice. I don’t like [name_f]Juliette[/name_f]. [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] was such a pointlessly tragic character.
[name_f]Maeva[/name_f]- Pretty. I prefer this to [name_f]Maeve[/name_f].
Naelle- This is really difficult to say. The “ah” and “elle” sounds do not blend together very well. [name_f]Noelle[/name_f] works much better.
[name_f]Naiara[/name_f]- Is this pronounced like [name_m]Nye[/name_m]-ara? [name_f]Naia[/name_f] is simpler. And prettier, in my opinion.
[name_f]Nerea[/name_f]- Ner-ia or Ner-aya or Near-a? I don’t know, but I don’t care for it. I don’t like many “N” names, though.
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f]- Pretty, but I immediately think of the nearby adult video store with this name. It kind of ruined the name for me. [name_u]Rory[/name_u] is cute.

[name_f]Niamh[/name_f] / Nimue - I think [name_f]Niamh[/name_f] is more “wearable” but both come with spelling and pronunciation issues.

[name_f]Lilia[/name_f] / [name_f]Livia[/name_f] - this is one of my favourite ancient [name_m]Roman[/name_m] names. The only current [name_f]Livia[/name_f] I know of is actor [name_m]Colin[/name_m] [name_f]Firth[/name_f]'s Italian-born wife.

[name_f]Arabelle[/name_f] / [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] - I like the more polished [name_f]Isabel[/name_f] or [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] myself but I have to choose [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] for its longevity. [name_f]Arabelle[/name_f] is ok but it seems like [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f]'s poorer cousin.

[name_f]Flora[/name_f] - I’ve grown to like this name. I can imagine a girly-girly or an imaginative and creative dreamer with this name.

[name_f]Fae[/name_f] - I prefer the [name_f]Faye[/name_f] spelling if it’s a first name. [name_f]Fae[/name_f] is ok in the middle spot.

[name_f]Sofia[/name_f] - I prefer [name_f]Sophie[/name_f]. This spelling has the place name association ([name_f]Sofia[/name_f] is the capital of Bulgaria). I imagine an ultra-feminine and fiery lady.

[name_f]Matilda[/name_f] - A wonderful name of ancient royal lineage. Majestic and spunky all rolled into one!

[name_f]Lune[/name_f] - a loon is a bird and a Loonie is a Canadian coin. Better as a quirky mn or not at all.

[name_f]Arwen[/name_f] - I like many “wen” names (eg. [name_f]Bronwen[/name_f], [name_f]Rhonwen[/name_f], [name_f]Ceridwen[/name_f]…) but this one isn’t a fave

[name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] - One of my favourite Shakespearean names. Vintage charm and sophisticated elegance.

[name_f]Juliette[/name_f] - This spelling of [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] is a little too frilly for me but it’s a lovely name.

  • [name_f]Maeva[/name_f] - I like [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] but [name_f]Maeva[/name_f] not so much.

  • Naelle - people would probably pronounce it like the word “nail”. I agree that this child would most likely have to spell her name all her life.

  • [name_f]Naiara[/name_f] - not a fan

  • [name_f]Nerea[/name_f] - not a fan

  • [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] - I like it on the page but the repetive r’s are difficult for some people to say

Thank you all for your feedback!
I should probably have mentioned that i am Dutch and do not pronounce [name_f]Lune[/name_f] (and [name_f]Luna[/name_f]) as “Loon”, but… the u sounds like the ü in [name_m]German[/name_m]? I don’t really know how to explain, either way it sounds differently! It hadn’t even come up to me that this could happen, haha. Either way I’m happy that you mentioned it, atleaset I know now it isn’t that usable internationally c:
Also, [name_f]Nerea[/name_f] is Ne-ray-a and [name_f]Naiara[/name_f] is [name_m]Nye[/name_m]-ah-ra

  • [name_f]Niamh[/name_f] / Nimue - I’m not fond of either personally. They look like names for fairies or gnomes to me rather than real people
  • [name_f]Livia[/name_f] - I have strong feeling for this one! I hate [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] and I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_f]Livia[/name_f] gives me tingles too!
  • [name_f]Arabelle[/name_f] - I slightly prefer [name_f]Arabelle[/name_f], but both are really only okay for me
  • [name_f]Flora[/name_f] - pretty.
  • [name_f]Fae[/name_f] - I love this as a middle name. Not really as a full first. I like it as a nn for [name_f]Farrah[/name_f] though
  • [name_f]Sofia[/name_f] - based on sound/look alone it’s a beautiful name that deserves it’s popularity
  • [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] - nice. I love nn [name_f]Tillie[/name_f]
  • [name_f]Lune[/name_f] - loon is a crazy person and a bird that has a crazy sounding call. [name_f]Luna[/name_f] skates near that problem, but I think [name_f]Lune[/name_f] is going to far. I don’t think it’s usable in the US. ([name_f]Edit[/name_f]: sorry, posted this before reading your final post)
  • [name_f]Arwen[/name_f] - I like this a lot actually. Dreamy but I think it can stand [name_m]IRL[/name_m]
  • [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] (nn would be [name_f]Rosie[/name_f])
  • [name_f]Juliette[/name_f] - nice name. I prefer [name_f]Juliet[/name_f]
  • [name_f]Maeva[/name_f] - okay, I prefer [name_f]Mavis[/name_f]
  • Naelle - [name_f]Noelle[/name_f] is a beautiful name. Naelle just looks made up.
  • [name_f]Naiara[/name_f] - I prefer [name_f]Nerea[/name_f]
  • [name_f]Nerea[/name_f] - this is pretty, but I prefer [name_f]Nerys[/name_f].
  • [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] - uh-wah-wah. That’s what I always think when I read this name. I just imagine a poor girl with a speech impediment named [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] introducing herself as uh-wah-wah

[name_f]Niamh[/name_f] / Nimue - [name_f]Niamh[/name_f] is pronounced [name_f]Neve[/name_f], right? I’m not sure how to pronounce Nimue, is it just how it looks, [name_m]Nim[/name_m]-you? If the pronunciation matches the look, I much prefer Nimue.

[name_f]Lilia[/name_f] / [name_f]Livia[/name_f] - I think both are beautiful but prefer [name_f]Lilia[/name_f].

[name_f]Arabelle[/name_f] / [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] - I prefer [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] since [name_f]Arabelle[/name_f] looks incoplete to me as I’ve only heard of [name_f]Arabella[/name_f].

[name_f]Flora[/name_f] - An absolutely gorgeous name. [name_f]Flora[/name_f] has been one of my favourites for a long time and I still like it very much but am taking a little break from it.

[name_f]Fae[/name_f] - as a first name I prefer [name_f]Faye[/name_f] but I generally like the sound of the name

[name_f]Sofia[/name_f] - I prefer [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] but [name_f]Sofia[/name_f] is gorgeous as well. The f makes it more interesting than [name_f]Sophia[/name_f].

[name_f]Matilda[/name_f] - lovely. It’s my sister name so I’m biased but even though I hear it every day, I still love it very much.

[name_f]Lune[/name_f] - not a big fan but then I also don’t like [name_f]Luna[/name_f] very much

[name_f]Arwen[/name_f] - so so about this name

[name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] - nice. I absolutely love [name_f]Rosie[/name_f] and [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and have [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] on my own list but [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] is beautiful, too.

[name_f]Juliette[/name_f] - adore [name_f]Juliette[/name_f] (especially this spelling), it’s on my own list.

[name_f]Maeva[/name_f] - lovely but not my favourite

Naelle - I prefer [name_f]Noelle[/name_f] or [name_f]Jaelle[/name_f]. Naelle just doesn’t appeal to me.

[name_f]Naiara[/name_f] - not a huge fan

[name_f]Nerea[/name_f] - same as [name_f]Naiara[/name_f]

[name_f]Aurora[/name_f] - gorgeous, one of my personal favourites even though I find the English pronunciation a bit dificult

I’d say keep: [name_f]Lilia[/name_f], [name_f]Flora[/name_f], [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f], [name_f]Sofia[/name_f], [name_f]Matilda[/name_f], [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f], [name_f]Juliette[/name_f] & [name_f]Aurora[/name_f]

  • [name_f]Niamh[/name_f] / Nimue: I prefer Niamh, Nimue sounds awkward to my ears
  • [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] / [name_f]Livia[/name_f]: Prefer Lilia, but I have a soft spot for Lily names
  • [name_f]Arabelle[/name_f] / [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f]: Both good choices but would choose Arabelle just for popularity reasons
  • [name_f]Flora[/name_f]: LOVE Flora, sweet, simple but not overly popular
  • [name_f]Fae[/name_f]: I like Fae
  • [name_f]Sofia[/name_f]: I’ve always liked Sofia, soft, sweet and rhythmic.
  • [name_f]Matilda[/name_f]: Good name but not my favorite, it’s a bit harsh sounding for me
  • [name_f]Lune[/name_f]: love Luna, but this spelling would be hard to pull of internationally.
  • [name_f]Arwen[/name_f]: So so on this one, sometimes I love it, sometimes the ‘ar’ is too abrupt? or harsh?
  • [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f]:Beautiful name
  • [name_f]Juliette[/name_f]: this one is fun to say, and still has a romantic feel
  • [name_f]Maeva[/name_f]: ok, not a bad name, just not one that particularly catches my attention
  • Naelle: Maybe it’s just my accent but this one sounds awkward to me, and I would be tempted to say NYE-el
  • [name_f]Naiara[/name_f]: Pretty name, hits that sweet spot between sounding familiar & standing out
  • [name_f]Nerea[/name_f]: LOVE
  • [name_f]Aurora[/name_f]: I want to like this one, but I know a lot of children have difficulty pronouncing it
