I’ve decided to look back at a name that my bf and I had previously considered.
[name]Niall[/name]
I think it has just the right amount of unusual without being a “crazy” name.
It’s also an Irish name meaning [name]Cloud[/name].
We would pronounce it like the name [name]Nile[/name].
We took it out of the list the last time because before I didn’t [name]LOVE[/name] it. But I think I’ve had a complete change of heart- the only two obstacles now are- seeing how others will judge it….and re-suggesting it to my bf who has been very picky with names lately.
So I want to know your opinions on [name]Niall[/name]!
[name]Niall[/name] is very handsome name, and I automatically think of [name]Niall[/name] from the boyband [name]One[/name] Direction. I think because of him the name will likely gain more attention but not so much that it will become trendy/popular.
I think there was a post about [name]Niall[/name] a few weeks ago and some people were unsure of the pronunciation and I think that’s probably the main issue that people might have, otherwise I can’t see anything wrong with it at all.
It is a fairly well known name in the UK, and no one would have any issues here at all and as teacher I’d love to meet a little [name]Niall[/name].
I like it how you pronounced it but the correct Irish pronunciation is [name]Neel[/name] ([name]Niel[/name], [name]Neal[/name] in English) so I think it could cause confusion.
Oh I love, love, love it! It’s so strong and masculine. And it’s very irish, and not too hard to pronounce. [name]Love[/name] the meaning too! On my list, my combo is [name]Niall[/name] [name]Sebastian[/name] [name]River[/name].
lol, this was my first thought exactly! I kind of like the association, though–I think [name]Niall[/name] Horan makes [name]Niall[/name] feel more usable, at least to Americans. Well, to me, anyway, lol.
I love [name]Niall[/name] a lot, but I probably wouldn’t have given it a second thought until [name]One[/name] Direction came around–it sort of put a face to an obscure (at least in [name]America[/name]!) name. I think [name]Niall[/name] is lovely and very handsome. I, too, would love to meet a [name]Niall[/name]!
But from what I’ve seen, he just seems like a pretty good kid, despite the hype surrounding their band. I know [name]Miley[/name] [name]Cyrus[/name] and the [name]Jonas[/name] Brothers put a stigma to using [name]Miley[/name]/[name]Maile[/name], [name]Cyrus[/name], [name]Hannah[/name], and [name]Jonas[/name], but I hope [name]Niall[/name] doesn’t end up that way! It’s such a great name.
I love [name]Niall[/name], I never heard of it until [name]Niall[/name] Horan, but I’m so glad I did.
I like the [name]Nile[/name] pronunciation as well, and since that’s the way Horan pronounces it, you should be fine with it. It’ll be more commonly said that way in [name]America[/name] I’d think. [name]North[/name] American’s tend to say names as their spelled.
Ahh, [name]One[/name] Direction. [name]Aren[/name]'t they the cutest things on two feet? Honestly, each of those guys is gorgeous in his own way. (Especially Zayn).
Now on to the name - [name]Niall[/name]. I love it. Could be because I’ve seen interviews with [name]Niall[/name] Horan and he is most charming and funny.
I like the name [name]Niall[/name], in fact I was annoyed when [name]One[/name] Direction became popular (not because it’s impossible to avoid the hype) but because I knew their names would bounce up the charts. I liked [name]Niall[/name], it was different, familiar but not known. I used it for a character back when I was about fifteen, too. Then everyone knew it as the name of some teenage popstar, and now I couldn’t use it even if I wanted to because I know I’d get asked ‘like the guy in [name]One[/name] Direction?’ No, not like [name]One[/name] Direction. I knew the name before, and liked it before. Luckily I can’t use it now because it won’t go with OH’s last name, but that’s not my point.
I’d say it [name]Nile[/name] instinctively, and I still think it’s a great name, but just be warned, you will get the ‘like the guy in [name]One[/name] Direction’ question if you plan on having a baby in the next few years or so while they’re still popular. And if you, like me, don’t even like them, it’ll probably be even more annoying. And it’ll probably get more popular too. The name, I mean, not the band.
