Opinions on Ottilie?

What do you think? I love Oti as a nickname. But [name_f]Ottilie[/name_f] doesn’t look right written down for some reason? Anyone feel the same?

Also worried it may sound like ‘utterly’ or ‘oddly’ in certain dialects.

I don’t know, maybe I just like Oti :woman_shrugging:

I love [name_f]Ottilie[/name_f] with the nickname [name_f]Tillie[/name_f] :slightly_smiling_face:

I really like [name_f]Ottilie[/name_f]- very pretty! I would go for it. I think its fine written and I dont think it sounds like any other word more so than like [name_f]Audrey[/name_f]. [name_f]My[/name_f] cousin is [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] and gets called “Odd.” I don’t think [name_f]Ottilie[/name_f] is as bad at all on that front!

Ottilie is so sweet, but i sort of get what you mean about it looking off written down.

I know it’s a fave around Nameberry, but I personally don’t like the sound. It also makes me think of “oddly”.

Ottilie, [name_f]Ottoline[/name_f], [name_f]Otthild[/name_f] are all cool but weird names.

I like them but would not want to be named them.

I love [name_m]Otis[/name_m] and [name_m]Otto[/name_m], but their sounds seem to work on a guy better (to me).

I wouldn’t want to be called Oti. Sounds like a cute [name_f]Star[/name_f] Wars character to me.

I think it’s gorgeous! It does sound a little like oddly in my accent, but I still like it a lot

I love [name_f]Ottilie[/name_f]! [name_f]Ottoline[/name_f] could be an alternative

I’m just wondering, is this Oh-till-e or Oat-ill-e? I always have assumed the former but have never heard it said.

I only like this with aw-teel-yeh (?) pronunciation. I prefer [name_f]Odilia[/name_f].

For the Oti nickname, what about [name_f]Ottoline[/name_f], Otilia, or [name_f]Ottavia[/name_f]?

I greatly dislike this name, I think it looks and sounds ridiculous.

Ottilie is cute! I like the nickname [name_u]Ollie[/name_u]. If it doesn’t look right, you could try changing the spelling a little.

Otilie
Ottily
Ottilee
etc

Not a name that I’m keen on. I’m afraid it’s just otter and utterly to me. I like [name_f]Tilly[/name_f] as a nickname though.

I think Ottilie is sweet, however in my accent it is pronounced more like ‘oddily’ so I can’t use it. You might consider Ottoline too

Not a fan, I’m afraid. I’m a huge fan of [name_f]Odilia[/name_f]/Odelia which someone already mentioned, but [name_f]Ottilie[/name_f] seems harsh and unappealing to me, even though I like the nns [name_f]Tilly[/name_f] and even [name_f]Lottie[/name_f].

Not that it should stop you, but several years ago there was a troll on nb named [name_f]Ottilie[/name_f] and that is literally all I could think of. People got really attached to her and when she was outed as a troll it really broke a lot of hearts, because people really loved her and her name style, so it leaves a bad taste in my mouth, personally. For that reason, I’m surprised more haven’t mentioned her, but she hasn’t been around for several years so that may be why. It’s a perfectly nice name but I couldn’t commit to it, and probably wouldn’t be terribly excited myself, if a friend or sibling announced their baby would be named [name_f]Ottilie[/name_f]. Obviously, could be much worse, and taste is subjective, but anyways. Sorry I’m not a bigger fan!

I think it’s a pretty name and has some interesting namesakes. If you live in the UK, I would caution you that it’s very popular among Telegraph readers and is rising quickly in the charts. I can see it becoming the new generation’s version of [name_f]Natalie[/name_f].

Ottilie is pretty. I don’t think it looks awkward, actually it has a neat look. [name_f]Ottoline[/name_f] and [name_f]Ottavia[/name_f] are good suggestions.

I wasn’t even on NB when those things happened, but same :grimacing:

I love [name_f]Ottilie[/name_f], [name_f]Ottilia[/name_f] and [name_f]Ottoline[/name_f]. I wouldn’t hesitate to use them.

Iam meh about it. Oti is cute, [name_f]Ottilie[/name_f] not so much.
