Opinions on Pandora?

[name_f]Pandora[/name_f] falls somewhere in between [name_f]Persephone[/name_f]/[name_u]Artemis[/name_u] and [name_f]Lilith[/name_f]/[name_f]Eve[/name_f]; mythological and evil connotations. I know [name_f]Pandora[/name_f] isn’t everyone’s cup of tea but I want to hear opinions on it. I’m still trying to decide if I like it or not, so I can be swayed either way if you argue hard enough. If I do decide I like it, I would probably use it as a middle, but I would love to hear your opinions first. Thanks!

I like [name_f]Pandora[/name_f]'s sound, but I immediately think of [name_f]Pandora[/name_f] Internet Radio (which I am listening to right now).

I love [name_f]Pandora[/name_f] and my immediate thought is not of [name_f]Pandora[/name_f]'s box (or jar,) if that helps. In the middle spot, any negative associations wouldn’t matter much since people rarely ever use their middle names.

I love [name_f]Pandora[/name_f]! It’s on my list. One of my more “out there” name loves.

The problem with [name_f]Pandora[/name_f] is the pop culture associations nowadays. There’s the jewellery line, the radio station…the name of the planet on Avatar was [name_f]Pandora[/name_f]. It’s used a lot in society. Not to mention [name_f]Pandora[/name_f]'s box. None of these associations bother me too much, but it’s something to consider. On the plus side, the nickname Panda is precious! I’m still considering using [name_f]Pandora[/name_f]…

Have you ever seen the show “Skins”? All I can think is this episode when a character named [name_f]Pandora[/name_f] (who is nicknamed “Panda”) refers to herself as “Panda Poo” as a term of endearment. I thought it was HILARIOUS, but it’s way, way too easy for that to happen in real life and for someone to take advantage of that easy nickname.
I do think Panda as a nn is crazy sweet, but the Panda Poo thing really gets me.

Um, my vote goes to no. There’s the internet radio, first of all, and I would hate being named after a radio. It’s like naming your child iTunes. There’s also the whole [name_f]Pandora[/name_f]'s Box thing. I’m assuming most people know the story, but just to reaffirm, [name_f]Pandora[/name_f] is basically responsible for unleashing everything evil unto the world.
All things considered, I can’t think of one good thing about the name.

Yes, [name_f]Pandora[/name_f] has a lot of negative associations. But I know the coolest [name_f]Pandora[/name_f] and I love the mythology behind it!

I think the name gets used too much commercially, which is enough to stop me using the name- in particular the jewllery store… just feels like i would be naming my kid after a brand… like [name_m]Hermes[/name_m], [name_u]Nike[/name_u], all great mythological names lost to retail :frowning:
