This is a boy’s name that means “forest” and is the [name_m]French[/name_m] version of the more common [name_m]Silas[/name_m].
I am thinking of it as a sibling name to our DD [name_f]Clarisse[/name_f].
Opinions??

I love [name_m]Sylvan[/name_m]! I think it’s mainly because it’s very reminiscent of where I grew up. I think [name_f]Clarisse[/name_f] and [name_m]Sylvan[/name_m] are adorable together! [name_m]Sy[/name_m] or [name_u]Van[/name_u] could be nice nns, too.
Really like it, and it sounds amazing with [name_f]Clarisse[/name_f]. Rare, but still easy to say and spell - hallmarks of a great name, in my book!
Perfect. Unusual, but very much recognizable. Goes beautifully with [name_f]Clarisse[/name_f]. I’d say go for it.
I love the name! [name_m]Sylvan[/name_m] and [name_f]Clarisse[/name_f] are a gorgeous set.
I don’t really like it but I think it sounds perfect with [name_f]Clarisse[/name_f]! Are you considering any middle names?
Middle names are Makisig and Calogero.
DH is Filipino and gets to chose a middle, so Makisig (“refined grace”) in Tagalog is his choice.
Calogero is my father.
So, [name_m]Sylvan[/name_m] Makisig Calogero Payot
[name_m]Silvan[/name_m] is an option for spelling too I suppose.
I love [name_m]Sylvan[/name_m], seems so underused. I also love your daughter’s name [name_f]Clarisse[/name_f] and [name_m]Sylvan[/name_m] goes perfectly well with her gorgeous name!!
Great with [name_f]Clarisse[/name_f]! The only con, is I immediately thought of [name_m]Sylvan[/name_m] Learning Center.
A couple of people have mentioned this to me today. I wonder if it’s really a con though?
I looked it up. The Learning Center was named after a hospital, which was named after a man.
I guess I haven’t decided if the connection bugs me or not yet.
[name_f]Clarisse[/name_f] often gets connected to [name_f]Silence[/name_f] of the Lambs character [name_f]Clarice[/name_f] [name_f]Starling[/name_f], and my name is [name_f]Heidi[/name_f] (guess the connection!), while DH is [name_m]Julius[/name_m] ([name_u]Orange[/name_u] [name_m]Julius[/name_m], [name_m]Julius[/name_m] [name_m]Cesar[/name_m], [name_m]Julius[/name_m] the monkey!) so I am used to people jumping to pop culture references. Still… hmm, good point.
Would [name_m]Silvan[/name_m] spelling fix the connection? Not sure.
Well, maybe con isn’t the right word. It’s just what popped in my mind. I think that [name_m]Sylvan[/name_m] is fantastic and perfect with [name_f]Clarisse[/name_f]! I would keep the [name_m]Sylvan[/name_m] spelling.
Gorgeous! [name_f]Clarisse[/name_f] and [name_m]Sylvan[/name_m] are perfect together. I love it!
Thanks everyone. You have won me over on [name_m]Sylvan[/name_m]. It has husband approval too. Hopefully this is THE name for us!
