Opinions on Taran/Taron?

After watching Kingsman: The [name_f]Secret[/name_f] Service on the weekend with my sister, (which is a brilliant movie, by the way!), I noticed that the lead actor in the film (apart from [name_m]Colin[/name_m] [name_f]Firth[/name_f]) was named [name_f]Taron[/name_f], a spelling variant of the Welsh word for ‘thunder’. The name’s been growing on me a fair amount now, and I’m curious to see what others think of the name, so I have a few questions.

  1. Which spelling do you prefer, [name_f]Taran[/name_f] or [name_f]Taron[/name_f]?
  2. Does the [name_f]Taron[/name_f] spelling appear ‘made up’? (I know I normally dislike misspellings, but I do think I might prefer this one).
  3. Would it fit in nicely with anything on my girls list?
  4. Does [name_m]Matthew[/name_m] [name_f]Taron[/name_f]/[name_f]Taran[/name_f] [name_u]James[/name_u] fit nicely as a combination?

Thank you very much!

I like [name_f]Taron[/name_f] more than [name_f]Taran[/name_f]. [name_f]Taron[/name_f] looks and sounds stronger and “manlier” in my opinion. I don’t think it looks made up. And [name_f]Taron[/name_f] would go nicely with both [name_m]Matthew[/name_m] and [name_u]James[/name_u].

Thank you  I’m not concerned about it sounding ‘stronger and manlier’ to be honest, as most of my boys names are quite gentle sounding to me, but I do appreciate the feedback!

For me personally, it’s much more a girl’s name than a boy’s. Part of it is because my sister is [name_f]Taryn[/name_f], but also because I also know two other girls with the name…another [name_f]Taryn[/name_f] and a [name_f]Tarryn[/name_f]. I can sorta see why it could be considered masculine, but to me, it’s just a strong, non-frilly girl name like [name_u]Sloane[/name_u], [name_f]Greer[/name_f], or [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f].

Anyways, to answer your questions…
[name_f]Taron[/name_f] looks more like a boy’s name, but somehow, it still looks odd to me. Perhaps it’s from seeing a ‘y’ in the name so much. I honestly think it does look made up, but that’s just from being so used to seeing my sister’s spelling and spellings similar to hers.
I personally think the more traditional names you currently have for boys pair up better with your girl names than [name_f]Taron[/name_f] does. To me, [name_f]Taron[/name_f] would have more trendy-named siblings, like [name_u]Jayden[/name_u], [name_m]Jackson[/name_m], [name_u]Riley[/name_u], or [name_u]Addison[/name_u].
I like the flow of [name_m]Matthew[/name_m] [name_f]Taron[/name_f], so I think the names go nicely together.

[name_f]Taron[/name_f] on a boy is so cool. I think the name is unusual enough (I haven’t heard of it before now, honestly) to not be associated only with girls, and since you’re using it as a middle anyway, it doesn’t matter so much. I love it in that combo! It shakes up [name_m]Matthew[/name_m] and [name_u]James[/name_u], which I would consider quite boring in a combo on their own. [name_f]Taron[/name_f] is quite the departure from your usual style. Also, Kingsman is definitely a fun movie!

I would assume it was a variant of [name_f]Taryn[/name_f], the woman’s name. But, like you, I prefer softer male names, so that isn’t necessarily a problem. Of the two spellings, I prefer [name_f]Taran[/name_f]. [name_f]Taron[/name_f] reminds me of talon.

I like [name_f]Taran[/name_f]! It reminds me of the protagonist in “The Chronicles of Prydain”, and sounds very handsome. [name_m]Just[/name_m] wondering; how are you pronouncing it? I say ‘tahr-an’ so I’m a bit confused as to why people find it similar to [name_f]Taryn[/name_f]

I do pronounce it as “Tair- ron” but I’ve always pronounced [name_f]Taryn[/name_f] as “Tair-in”, with emphasis on the final syllable for each, so they sound very different to me as well to be honest.

[name_f]Taron[/name_f] looks a lot more appealing to me. I would pronounce [name_f]Taran[/name_f] differently (more like ta-rahn). It’s kinda similar to [name_m]Tarzan[/name_m] which is why I prefer [name_f]Taron[/name_f]. An alternative would be [name_m]Talon[/name_m]. [name_m]Matthew[/name_m] [name_f]Taron[/name_f] is definitely an interesting combo. I don’t think it goes well with any of your girl names unfortunately. It sounds trendier (similar to names like [name_u]Jayden[/name_u] etc.), while all your girl names are in the traditional and vintage category.

I love how that flows. What did you go with? I just had my boy in [name_f]September[/name_f] and named him [name_m]Taron[/name_m] as a first name. Working on changing it to [name_f]Taran[/name_f], because no one can pronounce it correctly. It’s been a lot of TAY-Ron :expressionless:

I prefer [name_f]Taran[/name_f], as that’s how I’ve seen it spelled before. I’d be a bit unsure of pronunciation in [name_f]English[/name_f] TARE-in or TAR-in.
