Opinions on top names

Due in about a month! Planning to go in with a few options and decide when we see her. I’ve posted a couple times before and our list is staying mostly consistent with one new swap. I would love honest feedback on the names and help quelling or confirming potential drawbacks please!

  • [name_m]Darcy[/name_m][name_f][/name_f]: still my current fave, but DH thinks it is too “cutesy.” Valid point?
  • [name_f][/name_f]
  • [name_f]Fallon[/name_f][name_f][/name_f]: DH favorite, I also love it but am worried about the similar sounds of “felon” or… the male anatomy (phallus). am I overthinking it?
  • [name_f][/name_f]
  • [name_f]Rhiannon[/name_f][name_f][/name_f]: love the name, love the nickname options. but does it scream “Fleetwood mac superfan?” We like the song and band but are not that level of fandom
  • [name_f][/name_f]
  • [name_f]Roxanne[/name_f][name_f][/name_f]: love the name, not sure how I feel about [name_f]Roxy[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f]- to me it reads a little…sultry? also, the connection to the Police song could be an issue. other nn options?

Big sister is named [name_f]Sloan[/name_f], last name begins with an R for context.

I don’t see anything especially cutesy about [name_m]Darcy[/name_m]! I definitely wouldn’t describe it that way personally. It’s a lovely name and my favourite with [name_f]Sloan[/name_f].

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Fallon[/name_f] I personally don’t like, because it does just make me think of words with negative connotations, like falling & felon.

[name_f][/name_f]

I love [name_f]Rhiannon[/name_f], such a beautiful name! It’s my personal favourite from your list. No idea what the [name_m]Fleetwood[/name_m] [name_m]Mac[/name_m] connection is, maybe because I’m in my early 20s? But I knew a [name_f]Rhiannon[/name_f] in university and I don’t remember anyone making comments about her name.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Roxanne[/name_f] is lovely, but if you don’t like [name_f]Roxy[/name_f] I wouldn’t do it. Maybe [name_f]Rosanne[/name_f] or [name_m]Rowan[/name_m]?

i love [name_f]Sloan[/name_f]!

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]Darcy[/name_m]- lovee, i don’t think it’s too cutesy at all, i feel like it works well on all ages

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Fallon[/name_f]- don’t love, it might seem outdated in a few yrs. also jst remembered that’s a late night show hosts last name

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Rhiannon[/name_f]- i do think of the fleetwood mac song, but i don’t think people would think you’re a super fan. It might be a bit of a mouthful to say with an r last name tho

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Roxanne[/name_f]- love [name_f]Roxanne[/name_f]! maybe [name_f]Roxie[/name_f] would feel less sultry? or u could do [name_f]Annie[/name_f]. again i don’t think the song would be an issue, in fact i think it would be fun to have my name the title of a famous song

[name_m]Darcy[/name_m] → not too cutesy imo. It is cute, but not too cute, thanks to its unisex vibe and sophisticated, elegant literary vibe. I really like [name_m]Darcy[/name_m]

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Fallon[/name_f] → I think it’s familiar enough that the felon / phallus thing isn’t too overwhelming, though admittedly, it reminds me of “fall on” or “fallen” [name_f][/name_f] (sorry to give you another thing to worry over). That it might be more of a me issue, and I appreciate the surname-y, stylish-ness of it?

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Rhiannon[/name_f] → princess-y and strong with a distinctive sound. Does it help if I say I didn’t really know the [name_m]Fleetwood[/name_m] [name_m]Mac[/name_m] association [name_f][/name_f]- I’ve heard it mentioned here before but that’s it? It gives me more ‘Welsh name’ vibes and I guess it strikes me in the same way that I wouldn’t assume people choosing [name_f]Delilah[/name_f], [name_f]Lola[/name_f], [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], [name_m]Jude[/name_m], [name_f]Eileen[/name_f], [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f], [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f], [name_f]Jolene[/name_f] etc. where major fans of those songs/musicians/bands necessarily.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Roxanne[/name_f] → cool and spiky with a touch of elegance. ‘Foxy Roxy’ is a thing I’ve heard but it’s not a phrase I hear really? In terms of the song, I know it, but as above, I wouldn’t assume you’d chosen it because you were necessarily a fan. And for other nicknames, [name_m]Rocky[/name_m], [name_f]Annie[/name_f], [name_f]Ro[/name_f], [name_m]Ronnie[/name_m] / [name_f]Ronni[/name_f], Xanna, Xanni? [name_f]Roxana[/name_f] might lead to [name_f]Ana[/name_f] or Xana too.

[name_f][/name_f]

I think [name_m]Darcy[/name_m] is my fave of your options? But I do like [name_f]Rhiannon[/name_f] too

Thank you! Very helpful

That’s right. That was the other connection for [name_f]Fallon[/name_f] I forgot to mention. Thank you for your thoughts!

Thank you. Yeah, the “fallen” sound is there too…
[name_f][/name_f]Re: [name_f]Rhiannon[/name_f] I may have just grown up listening more to my parent’s music than my generation so glad to hear it’s not a ubiquitous association!
[name_f][/name_f]For [name_f]Roxanne[/name_f], I like the [name_f]Ro[/name_f] nn best! The Xanna or Xanni makes me think of Xanax haha

[name_f][/name_f]

Appreciate the feedback

I am astounded at those above who don’t know the [name_m]Fleetwood[/name_m] [name_m]Mac[/name_m] association with [name_f]Rhiannon[/name_f] :scream::laughing:[name_f][/name_f] I hope everyone takes this moment to go and listen to the song because it’s fantastic!! That said[name_f][/name_f], I don’t think people would assume a little [name_f]Rhiannon[/name_f] was named for it [name_f][/name_f]- I’d be more likely to assume she had Welsh ancestry (as is the case with the [name_f]Rhiannon[/name_f] I know, who incidentally goes by Rhi).

[name_f][/name_f]

Unlike [name_f]Rhiannon[/name_f] which I think has a life outside the song, I do connect [name_f]Roxanne[/name_f] to the Police song, particularly the version in Moulin Rouge[name_f][/name_f], so it feels quite…yeah, sultry. Not sure about it. [name_f]Roxy[/name_f] has a sassy feel to her though, which is quite fun. I guess if you’re going to have a song sung at you at school, [name_f]Rhiannon[/name_f] is better than Roxanne…

[name_f][/name_f]

With [name_f]Sloan[/name_f], I think [name_f]Fallon[/name_f] or [name_m]Darcy[/name_m] would be my choice from your list as (to me) they’ve got that tailored, slightly surnamey feeling. I don’t think [name_m]Darcy[/name_m] is cutesy, and I’ve never connected [name_f]Fallon[/name_f] to felon/phallus before but I do[name_f][/name_f] see your point. I guess my main worry is that between [name_f]Sloan[/name_f] (Sloane rangers) and [name_f]Fallon[/name_f] (the [name_m]Dynasty[/name_m][name_f][/name_f] character) you’d have an accidental 80s theme?

[name_m]Darcy[/name_m] → I love this name! I don’t think it’s too cutesy, it makes me think or a cowgirl! This one is my favorite of your options!

[name_f][/name_f]

Falllon → I’m not in love with this name, it reminds me of a falcon.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Rhiannon[/name_f] → I’ve never really heard much of this name, I don’t think it fits with [name_f]Sloan[/name_f] though

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Roxanne[/name_f] → [name_f]Love[/name_f] this! You could call her [name_f]Ro[/name_f]! I love the nn [name_f]Roxy[/name_f] too!

[name_f]My[/name_f] favourite is [name_m]Darcy[/name_m] followed by [name_f]Roxanne[/name_f]. Both work for a child or an adult and are lovely alongside [name_f]Sloan[/name_f].

Such a great list! [name_f]My[/name_f] favorite is definitely [name_m]Darcy[/name_m][name_f][/name_f] – she’s familiar and grounded, but with a sweet spunky as well! Not too cutesy at all, I don’t think.
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Rhiannon[/name_f][name_f][/name_f] would be a close runner up for me, I love her with [name_f]Sloan[/name_f]! I’m familiar with the song you’re referring too, but it isn’t an overpowering connection by any means, so I wouldn’t worry about it.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Fallon[/name_f][name_f][/name_f] isn’t my personal favorite, just because she sounds so similar to words like “felon” and “falling”, and if you dislike [name_f]Roxy[/name_f] I would avoid [name_f]Roxanne[/name_f][name_f][/name_f] – I will suggest [name_f]Lennon[/name_f] as an alternative!

[name_m]Darcy[/name_m] is a solid option and fits best with [name_f]Sloane[/name_f] IMO.

[name_m]Darcy[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f]- To me it’s always too masculine, I always think about Mr. [name_m]Darcy[/name_m] from Pride and Prejudice (with an [name_f]English[/name_f] accent and all!)

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Fallon[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f]- I hear the same associations as you do, that’s why I’m not a fan.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Rhiannon[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f]- I like this one the best.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Roxanne[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f]- I’m not into [name_f]Roxy[/name_f] either for the same reasons as you.

[name_m]Darcy[/name_m] → literary, charming, soft-spunky. Feels grounded and approachable. I don’t find it too cutesy at all. If anything, it’s the opposite: [name_m]Darcy[/name_m] has mature, [name_f]British[/name_f] no-nonsense energy.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Fallon[/name_f] → cool, sleek, modern-glam. Slightly bold, but still very wearable. The “felon/phallus” thing is not something the average person thinks of, and most kids don’t know the word “phallus” anyway.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Rhiannon[/name_f] → mystical, strong, feminine with an edge. [name_m]Poetic[/name_m] but not frilly. Yes, the [name_m]Fleetwood[/name_m] [name_m]Mac[/name_m] connection will always be there – but it’s not overwhelming. If you’re not annoyed when people say “Oh, like the song?” then it’s not a dealbreaker.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Roxanne[/name_f] → bold, vintage, vivacious. Glamour with grit. [name_f]Roxy[/name_f] can read a little party girl to some, but that image is fading + you don’t have to use it! As far as the The Police song, most people won’t sing it at her, especially in her peer group. Other nicknames: [name_f]Ro[/name_f], [name_m]Xan[/name_m], Xanna, [name_f]Annie[/name_f]. Overall, a bit more high-drama than your other options. If that fits your vibe, go for it. If you’re more into sleek, understated cool, maybe a backup.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]My[/name_f] favorite overall is [name_m]Darcy[/name_m] – the sweet spot between elegance, spunk, familiarity, and strength. Also works beautifully with [name_f]Sloan[/name_f]. If [name_f]Fallon[/name_f] is a mutual love, I’d place that second – both names are sleek, stylish, and travel well.

[name_m]Darcy[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f]- not my style, I only know guys with this name and yet it feels too frilly and girly for me. It’s a name I don’t think ages well, it’s very “little girl”-ish.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Fallon[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f]- not a fan simply because how can you not think of anything other than [name_m]Jimmy[/name_m] [name_f]Fallon[/name_f]? [name_f]My[/name_f] mind doesn’t go to felon or phallic at all when I hear it. It’s definitely an “Irish-American” name too.. if you’re of that vibe.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Rhiannon[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f]- a severely underrated name. It’s classic, elegant, beautiful. Not incredibly common, it’s like rediscovering a hidden gem. I don’t think it screams [name_m]Fleetwood[/name_m] [name_m]Mac[/name_m] super fan at all, but maybe that’s because I’m [name_m]Irish[/name_m] and know it’s a Welsh name? (The song IS a banger though :fire:)

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Roxanne[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f]- it’s cute, but it feels like a girl who skips school, wears Gothic clothing and heavy eyeliner.. not a little baby, I guess the name just doesn’t age well for me.

[name_f][/name_f]

I think [name_f]Rhiannon[/name_f] is the best option, especially as a sister to [name_f]Sloan[/name_f], they sound great together and give off ‘effortlessly cool’ vibes.

[name_m]Darcy[/name_m][name_f][/name_f]: [name_f]Love[/name_f] it! [name_f][/name_f] I know a [name_m]Darcy[/name_m] and she is is a very straight forward no nonsense type of person. [name_f][/name_f] So no I don’t see it as a cutesy name.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Fallon[/name_f][name_f][/name_f]: Really don’t care for it. [name_f][/name_f] But would pair well [name_f]Sloane[/name_f].

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Rhiannon[/name_f][name_f][/name_f]: I can’t help but jump to the [name_m]Fleetwood[/name_m] [name_m]Mac[/name_m] connection. [name_f][/name_f] But, I there is nothing wrong with that. [name_f][/name_f] I know a lot of people who share a name with a song. [ I do] And I have never been bothered by it. [name_f][/name_f] [name_f]Rhiannon[/name_f] is a lovely name.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Roxanne[/name_f][name_f][/name_f]: I agree with the sultry part but who cares. [name_f][/name_f] Call her [name_f]Roxanne[/name_f] and correct anyone who uses [name_f]Roxy[/name_f]. [name_f][/name_f] It is definitely useable!
