Opposite Gender

For those of you who already have a child/children, what would you have named him/her/them if they’d been born the opposite gender? Would you still use the name for a sibling if you had the chance? If [name_f]Helena[/name_f] had been a boy, his name would have been [name_m]Leo[/name_m] [name_m]Dalton[/name_m]. I’m not sure if I’d still use the name or not. Since she’ll probably be an only child, I’ll probably never get to know, but maybe I’ll use it in a story or something.

I haven’t had children myself, but I know that my parents were planning on calling me and my twin sister [name_m]Montgomery[/name_m] and [name_u]Sullivan[/name_u]. I actually quite like their taste!

My son [name_m]Isaiah[/name_m] was going to be [name_f]Maddison[/name_f] [name_f]Alexa[/name_f], so glad that didn’t work out!!!

My second son [name_m]Zachariah[/name_m] would have been [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f].

My third son [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] would have been [name_f]Alice[/name_f] of [name_f]Rose[/name_f].

My parents never told me the names that my siblings and I would have had had we been the opposite however I know a few of my BILs’ names had they been opposite.

[name_m]Martin[/name_m] would have been [name_f]Mia[/name_f].
[name_m]Clay[/name_m] was to be [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f].
[name_m]Leo[/name_m] was going to be a [name_u]Brooke[/name_u].
But I can’t remember [name_m]Frank[/name_m] and [name_m]Oscar[/name_m]'s opposite names.

If I was a boy, I was going to be [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m]. If my DH was a girl he would have been [name_f]Audrey[/name_f].

I am currently pregnant with baby number 1, a girl, who will go by [name_f]Isla[/name_f]. If she was a boy, her name would have been [name_m]Jack[/name_m], [name_u]Owen[/name_u] or [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m]. We would consider using one of the three if our next baby (if we are so blessed) is a boy.

I’m [name_f]Emily[/name_f] and would have been [name_m]Nathan[/name_m]
My daughter [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] would have been [name_m]Nolan[/name_m]
My daughter [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] would have been [name_m]Griffin[/name_m]

We didn’t consider either [name_m]Nolan[/name_m] or the second place girls’ name for my second pregnancy. Somehow it just seemed like it didn’t fit; there just wasn’t a baby [name_m]Nolan[/name_m], it didn’t seem fitting to recycle.

If [name_m]Liam[/name_m] had been a girl, his name would have been [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f], which we did end up using for our almost-one-month old daughter. We knew [name_f]Cate[/name_f] was going to be a girl, so we didn’t really talk about boys’ names that much. Most likely, she would have been [name_m]Alexander[/name_m]…something – we’ve been debating a middle for [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] since I was pregnant with [name_m]Liam[/name_m] with no firm agreement! – or [name_m]Dominic[/name_m] [name_u]Valentine[/name_u] if we just couldn’t settle on a combo for [name_m]Alexander[/name_m].

If I was a boy, I would have been either [name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Dominic[/name_m] (Mom’s pick, using my dad’s first name and her father’s middle name) or [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] [name_m]Dominic[/name_m] (Dad’s pick, using his father’s and father-in-law’s middle names). Actually, their original pick was [name_m]Charles[/name_m] [name_m]Dominic[/name_m], using my paternal grandfather’s first name and maternal grandfather’s middle name, but by the time I was born, I already had two cousins named [name_m]Charles[/name_m], one from each side of the family, so [name_m]Charles[/name_m] was obviously out.

I am [name_f]Candice[/name_f] and I would have been a [name_u]Curtis[/name_u]. My parents used [name_u]Curtis[/name_u] 14months later for my brother.
My son is [name_f]Kodiak[/name_f] and would have been [name_f]Harmonee[/name_f] if he was a girl.
My daughter [name_f]Lace[/name_f] would have been [name_m]Cain[/name_m].
My other 2 were both girls and we didnt have boy names picked out.

When I was pregnant with my daughter, our top boy names were [name_m]Clark[/name_m], [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m], [name_m]Hugh[/name_m] and [name_m]Oliver[/name_m]. I’m pregnant with number two right now and if this baby is a boy, our top pick is [name_m]Clark[/name_m] with [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m] as a backup ([name_m]Hugh[/name_m] and [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] have both been dropped).

[name_f]Flori[/name_f] would have been [name_m]Santos[/name_m] [name_m]Emilio[/name_m]. We also had that name picked before we knew #2 is also a girl.

I have a [name_f]Caia[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] and she would have probably been [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] [name_m]Anthony[/name_m] I was going to be [name_m]Joshua[/name_m] if I was a boy.

My parents had girl, boy, girl, boy and they never used the names they had picked out for the previous one had they been the opposite gender. I’m the oldest girl, I would have been [name_m]Aaron[/name_m] if I was a boy (I’m [name_u]Clare[/name_u]).

Because of this, I assumed I would do the same with my children. So when my first daughter was born I had no problem telling everyone she would have been [name_u]Toby[/name_u] if she was a boy, because I thought I wouldn’t use it next time. But [name_u]Toby[/name_u] stuck until I eventually used it for #3. Now I’m expecting #4 and haven’t decided whether I’ll use the same girl’s name as I chose last time or not ([name_f]Meesha[/name_f]).

If I had been born a boy, my name would have been [name_m]Eric[/name_m].

If my sister had been born a boy, she would have been [name_m]Matthew[/name_m].

My aunt and uncle stole both names from my parents. Funny thing is, they didn’t even like the name [name_m]Eric[/name_m]. My cousin [name_m]Eric[/name_m] was supposed to be [name_m]Andrew[/name_m] when he was born, according to my mom.

If I had been a boy, I would have been [name_m]Simon[/name_m] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m]. My mom said she was also considering [name_u]Campbell[/name_u]. If my sister had been a boy, she would have been [name_f]Nova[/name_f] (her name is [name_f]Holly[/name_f]). I don’t know about anyone else in my family.

If I was a boy, i would have been [name_m]Yosef[/name_m]: if DH had been a girl, he would have been [name_f]Aviva[/name_f] - which is my name!

I have 2 girls, and we were ready to use the same male name for both of them: Yochanan [name_m]David[/name_m]. If we have a boy in the future, we most likely will call him that.

If I was a boy I was to be [name_m]Gregory[/name_m] [name_m]Daniel[/name_m]. My parents reused the first name when my brother was born in [name_m]Gregory[/name_m] [name_m]Thomas[/name_m].

A friend of mine had several girl and boy names picked out for her first and completely rethought them for her second (both surprise genders at birth), I think some people have “the name” and other’s naming styles change more with time.

I had [name_m]Colton[/name_m] [name_m]Ryder[/name_m] picked out before I found out I was having a girl. I’m now pregnant again and even if this one is a boy (i find out tomorrow!) I can’t see myself using it for some reason even though I still really love the name.

Our eldest would have been [name_u]Charlie[/name_u], I think. Our littlest would have been [name_m]Arthur[/name_m]. I still like both those names.

If [name_f]Noemi[/name_f] was a boy, her name would have been Cenon. We didn’t plan the middle name. We are still going to use it if we have a boy.

If [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] had been a boy, she probably would have been either [name_m]Anthony[/name_m], [name_m]William[/name_m] or [name_m]Harry[/name_m], but we didn’t look at too many boys names as we found out pretty early on that she was a girl.
