Hello,

I’d like to hear some opinions on the name [name_f]Orla[/name_f].

I’m due in less than 2 weeks and thought we had decided on [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f]… but I’m getting cold feet. I’m worried [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f] is a bit long and fussy and will always be shortened.

My husband is Irish and we have an Irish surname which really compliments [name_f]Orla[/name_f].

What do you think of [name_f]Orla[/name_f] [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f]?

I like [name_f]Orla[/name_f] with a brogue. My only concern for the name is that anyone who is dyslexic (or childish) will read it as “[name_m]Oral[/name_m]”

I think [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f] is lovely long, short, or any which way.

[name_f]Orla[/name_f] is so lovely. [name_f]Orla[/name_f] [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f] is a great combo. And I love the young singer [name_f]Orla[/name_f] Gartland as well :slight_smile:

[name_f]Love[/name_f] [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f], but [name_f]Orla[/name_f] is strange to me. The ‘Or’ part suggests an option…I guess it just confuses me, but if I knew people with the name, I might like it.

[name_f]Orla[/name_f]'s okay, but I don’t like it as much as I like [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f]. [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f] sounds so exotic and pretty to me, yet I’ve always liked it as a middle name. [name_f]Orla[/name_f] [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f] is a nice combo.

I love the meaning of [name_f]Orla[/name_f] but I agree with the pp that [name_m]Oral[/name_m] is a real possibility. I really wouldn’t want to strap that connection to a girl. I can only imagine what high school boys would say :(. [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f] is a much safer, and far more lovely option [name_f]IMO[/name_f].

Exactly. I think they sound nice together, but [name_f]Orla[/name_f] is strange to me.

My best friend is named [name_f]Orla[/name_f] well actually Orflaugh which is pronounced the same.Her full name is Orflaugh [name_f]Beverley[/name_f] [name_f]Mary[/name_f] (mary’s her saints name). I love her name but I can’t use it since I am not Irish (scottish and english actually)and it would be really unusual. I don’t really like [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f] very much though.

Weren’t you considering [name_f]Flora[/name_f] at one time? I don’t care for [name_f]Orla[/name_f], but [name_f]Flora[/name_f] is SO lovely and is so similar to [name_f]Orla[/name_f] in sound anyway. Perhaps you’ll consider it again? I have a little [name_f]Flora[/name_f] myself, so I’m biased.

What name did you decide? I think [name_f]Orla[/name_f] is beautiful. I have a darling [name_f]Orla[/name_f] so I’m biased!
