Orlagh

Recently fallen again for Orlagh. It was on my list, then dropped off for a few years, and now I’m head over heels again. I can also feel myself warming to the previously loved but dropped as ‘boring’ Anna. There’s something so pleasing about it’s simplicity, symmetry and timelessness.

Which names did you lose then come back round to?

I feel like I’m on a never-ending seesaw with [name_u]Ruby[/name_u]. I adore her, then I’m put off by her popularity. Then I say it with our surname and I love it again!

[name_f]Anna[/name_f] is on my list! I used to consider her boring and “done” but as I get older (and closer to actually having a child) I see her as timeless and elegant and versatile!

[name_f]Orlagh[/name_f] is not one I’ve seen or heard. Is it pronounced [name_f]Orla[/name_f]? If so, I’d prefer that spelling just because I’m in the US and the -gh ending isn’t common. Not a big deal if you’re in a place that knows that spelling/pronunciation though!

It’s funny isn’t it. I’ve see-sawed with lots of names over the years. [name_f]Orlagh[/name_f] is another variant spelling of [name_f]Orla[/name_f] / [name_f]Orlaith[/name_f], for me it’s a half way house between the two. I don’t like [name_f]Orla[/name_f] because I see oral - it’s just too close for me.

I loooove [name_f]Orlagh[/name_f] with the gh! I’m a huge fan of [name_f]Oonagh[/name_f] too, so this really is a splendid name, I think. [name_f]Anna[/name_f] is also beautiful, but [name_f]Orlagh[/name_f] is so divine.

I love [name_f]Oona[/name_f] spelled like this but [name_f]Oonagh[/name_f] is lovely too. Definitely prefer both to [name_f]Una[/name_f] which is just a little too polished to be my favourite.
