Oskar/Oscar , Marlo or Marley- surprise gender

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] we are due in [name_f]April[/name_f] with our second. Our first is named [name_m]Kasper[/name_m] as my husband is danish. I get so many compliments on his name. I’ve always liked [name_m]Oscar[/name_m] but thought it might be too common in Australia where we live…. But then my husband said in [name_m]Denmark[/name_m] you can spell is [name_m]Oskar[/name_m]. Which I actually thought could be quite cute with how our first son’s name is. I don’t find it a problem with his spelling, if I’m booking an appointment for him I just say [name_m]Kasper[/name_m] with a k and it’s never been a problem. Opinions on this name spelled this way? We are having a surprise gender [name_f][/name_f]- so might not even use it- but obviously need to have both names sorted!

[name_f][/name_f]

Before thinking about [name_m]Oskar[/name_m] we thought we were dead set on naming him either [name_f]Marley[/name_f] or [name_f]Marlo[/name_f]. But there is actually a [name_f]Marley[/name_f] in Kaspers kindergarten now- ( who is a boy also) and for some stupid reason this puts me off?!

[name_f][/name_f]

I’m a bit worried maybe [name_f]Marlo[/name_f] is too similar to the popular [name_m]Arlo[/name_m]? Then again [name_m]Kasper[/name_m] is similar to the popular [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] which hasn’t been an issue so far!

[name_m]Oscar[/name_m] / [name_m]Oskar[/name_m] is a great match for K@sper, especially considering your husband’s heritage. However, I do wonder if the similar endings and the strong “S” sound make them feel a bit too close.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Marley[/name_f] is a very charming choice, though it has a more youthful and adventurous feel compared to K@sper. It could be interesting to choose a sibling set where one name clearly has a “big brother” vibe while the other feels more like a “little brother”.

[name_f][/name_f]

I absolutely love [name_f]Marlo[/name_f] for your baby! It’s familiar yet unexpected, international, gentle, and warm. I personally don’t associate it with [name_m]Arlo[/name_m], but I understand your concern. Honestly, sometimes just one letter makes a big difference, and I truly believe [name_f]Marlo[/name_f] is a fantastic idea!

[name_m]Oscar[/name_m] would be perfect with [name_m]Kasper[/name_m]!

[name_m]Kasper[/name_m] is fabulous. It was on my list too but my husband didn’t go for it.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]Oskar[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f]- Sounds like a natural brother for [name_m]Kasper[/name_m]. They’re great together. I like both spellings but I prefer [name_m]Oskar[/name_m] for your family with how it complements [name_m]Kasper[/name_m] and has the clearer link to [name_m]Danish[/name_m] heritage.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]Oscar[/name_m] is quite popular in Australia, I’ve known a few myself. But it’s not at a point where it feels oversaturated. I would expect to bump into one from time to time. If he ever had one in the same class or team he could differentiate as [name_m]Oskar[/name_m] with K rather than [name_m]Oskar[/name_m] Surname. Seems like a strong option for you.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Marley[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f]- I completely get why the classmate would put you off the name. That child creates a new association for you, possibly not a short term association either. Sometimes a big part of the our attraction to a name is when it feels cool or undiscovered. So meeting or finding out about one could be a turn off. I would put it on the back-up list and leave it alone for now.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Marlo[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f]- Is this still a contender or do you feel equally put off by the classmate? [name_f]Marlo[/name_f] is unexpected with [name_m]Kasper[/name_m] but feels like a better fit than [name_f]Marley[/name_f] – which gives me surfer vibes. I think the ‘o’ ending sound gives you enough distance from the classmate to keep this on your short list.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]Arlo[/name_m] and [name_f]Marlo[/name_f] are obviously similar but feel different in style. Like you mention with [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] and [name_m]Kasper[/name_m], there are plenty of examples of rhyming names that still feel different and don’t get confused even if one is popular. E.g. [name_m]Jack[/name_m] and [name_m]Mack[/name_m], [name_f]Ella[/name_f] and [name_f]Nella[/name_f]. I don’t think it will cause any problems.

[name_m]Oskar[/name_m] is great! Distinctive and charming, with a hint of flair. I’ve known an [name_m]Oskar[/name_m] spelled this way!

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Marlo[/name_f] is so cool too; I think it holds its own against [name_m]Arlo[/name_m]

[name_f][/name_f]

I really like [name_m]Oscar[/name_m] with [name_m]Kasper[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f]! I am in [name_f]Canada[/name_f] but [name_m]Oscar[/name_m] is more common in our circles [name_f][/name_f]. Our nephew is [name_m]Oscar[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f], and he knows 2 other with his name. I have personally never met one before him [name_f][/name_f]. It doest’t change my mind I love the name [name_f][/name_f].

[name_f][/name_f]

But I can totally see [name_f]Marlo[/name_f] / [name_f]Marlowe[/name_f] too [name_f][/name_f]! I think I gravitate slightly more to [name_f]Marlo[/name_f] for you because it doesn’t share any of the same sounds [name_f][/name_f]- so when you need to yell out the boys names they will be distinct

[name_f][/name_f]

I don’t love [name_f]Marley[/name_f]

I am utterly bias as my baby boy was [name_m]Oskar[/name_m] (cat mum, no human children). We chose to spell it with a K to match our other cat.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]Oskar[/name_m] feels like a natural match to [name_m]Kasper[/name_m], and I feel the K really ties them nicely without being too matchy! I feel like you’ve found a really solid contender there.

[name_f][/name_f]

Other names I feel would be a good match, with a nod to the [name_m]Danish[/name_m] side of the family would be;

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]Anders[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Erik[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Felix[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Lucas[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Otto[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Olen[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Soren[/name_m]

[name_m]Kasper[/name_m] and [name_m]Oskar[/name_m] would be adorable!

[name_m]Oskar[/name_m] is amazing with [name_m]Kasper[/name_m], and I love how they have a little connection with the “K”! [name_f]Marley[/name_f] feels a little nickname-y to me, especially against the strength of [name_m]Kasper[/name_m], but I love [name_f]Marlo[/name_f]! Maybe using the [name_f]Marlowe[/name_f] spelling could help you distance it from [name_m]Arlo[/name_m]?

I love [name_m]Kasper[/name_m] and [name_m]Oskar[/name_m] together! [name_f][/name_f] I’ve always been a sucker for the [name_m]Oskar[/name_m] spelling, and I love this brother duo. [name_f][/name_f] [name_f]Marley[/name_f] and [name_f]Marlo[/name_f] are nice, but I love [name_m]Oskar[/name_m]! [name_f][/name_f] I love the Nordic vibes of [name_m]Kasper[/name_m] and [name_m]Oskar[/name_m] together.

[name_f][/name_f]

I think [name_f]Marley[/name_f], [name_f]Marlo[/name_f], or [name_m]Oskar[/name_m] would all be great options, but [name_m]Oskar[/name_m] has my heart. [name_f][/name_f] Good luck!

[name_m]Oscar[/name_m] and [name_m]Kasper[/name_m] are great :light_blue_heart:

[name_f][/name_f]

I’ve been crushing on both names lately actually :growing_heart:
