Other ideas for names like Alana?

I love the name [name]Alana[/name], but a good friend of mine named her daughter that, and I know it would cause problems if I did the same. There are several other names I really like, but I have concerns about all of them:

[name]Sariah[/name] (I think this spelling looks too much like [name]Mariah[/name], but [name]Soraya[/name] isn’t as nice looking)
[name]Chiara[/name] (worried people will pronounce it wrong)
[name]Camila[/name] (don’t like any of its nicknames)
[name]Naomi[/name] (worried it’s too common)
[name]Alessandra[/name] (it’s so close to [name]Alexandra[/name], which is so common)
[name]Josephine[/name] (don’t like the nicknames [name]Josie[/name] or [name]Posey[/name])

Any ideas for unique and feminine names like the above? Maybe I’m over-thinking this, but it seems like such an important decision, I want my daughter to grow up liking her name, and I’m at a loss.

On your list I personally really adore [name]Alessandra[/name], and I don’t think it’s too similar to [name]Alexandra[/name]. It may only be 2 letters difference, but for me the two names are totally different. I really dont like [name]Alexandra[/name], but [name]Alessandra[/name] on the other hand, as I said, I totally adore.

If you want to change it a bit, to make it even more different, you could try Alessandre, but that’s a boys name too.

If you want something similar to [name]Alana[/name], [name]Avalon[/name] is a name I really like. But you might not

As for uniqe and feminine names as the others, what about [name]Freya[/name]/[name]Freja[/name], [name]Juno[/name], [name]Mae[/name], [name]Eve[/name], [name]Macy[/name], [name]Julie[/name], Alberte, [name]Liva[/name], [name]Silja[/name], [name]Tilde[/name], Tinke, [name]Lea[/name], [name]Luna[/name], [name]Hanne[/name], [name]Susanne[/name], [name]Vera[/name] or [name]Pernille[/name]?

I’m glad to hear you don’t think [name]Alessandra[/name] sounds too much like [name]Alexandra[/name]. I do like [name]Avalon[/name] and lots of your other suggestions. My husband is pretty harsh on names (he’s always trying to think of the playground issues the name could bring up!), and he vetoed [name]Avalon[/name] because it was the name of a car or something (which I did not even know). Thanks again for the encouragement! Maybe [name]Alessandra[/name] will move up on the list…

I really like [name]Josephine[/name] and [name]Alessandra[/name](I also think it is worlds away from [name]Alexandra[/name] which I don’t really care for)

as far as names similar to [name]Alana[/name], have you thought about [name]Aurora[/name]? I don’t know if that’s your style but I think it’s very nice. Lately I’ve also taken a liking to [name]Bernadette[/name] which might meet your criteria as well.

Another name that comes to mind is [name]Athena[/name].

Also:
[name]Alessia[/name]
[name]Milena[/name]
[name]Nolana[/name]
[name]Mila[/name]

Names that come to mind for me are [name]Leilani[/name], [name]Lola[/name], [name]Layla[/name], [name]Kai[/name]… Sorry, when i hear “[name]Alana[/name]” i associate it with breezy, beachy names.

I think [name]Milena[/name] and [name]Leilani[/name] are both really pretty. I have two friends with daughters named [name]Leilani[/name]–I guess it’s getting more popular! Thanks for all the suggestions everyone. I have no idea what I’ll do, but I guess it’s an excuse to keep scouring nameberry!

I had an [name]Alana[/name], a [name]Riana[/name], and three Briannas in my classroom last year. [name]Riana[/name] or [name]Brianna[/name] are too names that are similar to [name]Alana[/name]…
