[name]Calla[/name] is my favourite name at the moment that I would use. It has a classic, beautifully feminine feel to it. It is also common enough to be heard of but not enough to be trendy or overly popular. What other girl names has this “feel”?
Other favourites are [name]Scarlett[/name] (which I just made a poll on) and [name]Isla[/name] but those I’m afraid of being too trendy.

I may be wrong, but I don’t think it’s quite fair to call [name]Isla[/name] ‘trendy’. Sure, it is talked about quite often on these naming boards, and yes it made a jump from not being in the top 1,000 to being in the 600’s. . .but does that make it trendy? 600s are still pretty low on the popularity charts. The fact that [name]Isla[/name] is so popular on these boards doesn’t worry me all that much (my daughter’s name is [name]Isla[/name] by the way!) because I think a lot of people who consider [name]Isla[/name] wont actually use it and also a lot of people that have the name on their favorite list aren’t actually even pregnant - -just love names. Of course when the top 1000 of 2009 is released I may be proved wrong, if [name]Isla[/name] is now in the 400’s or something. I am no expert but I really don’t see [name]Isla[/name] ever making the top 100 and certainly not the top 20. At least I hope:)

So the point of this whole rant is that I [name]LOVe[/name] [name]Calla[/name] and I would name by second daughter that except I think it sounds a bit too close to [name]Isla[/name] - and I think they both have quite the same “feel”.
Perceptions of popularity are a weird thing. There are still lots of girls being born named [name]Jennifer[/name] and [name]Nicole[/name], far more than many trendy names. [name]Even[/name] [name]Linda[/name] is still around #500. Yes, they were more common once, but they are far more in use than you’d guess from these boards. Several people have mentioned [name]Julia[/name] as a dated name, though it’s never been uncommon.
I wouldn’t be surprised to see [name]Isla[/name] on the top 10 for 2020.
