What do you think of Otti as a nickname in general?
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you think it works for [name_u]Elliott[/name_u]?
I think it’s cute but I wouldn’t think it was a nn for [name_u]Elliott[/name_u]. I’d probably think he was an [name_m]Otto[/name_m]! Looking at [name_u]Elliott[/name_u] written down I can see it, but actually saying the name not so much. I pronounce it more ‘ellie-UT’ than ‘ellie-OT’. That being said I don’t think nn’s really need to come directly/obviously from a name (eg. [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] from [name_u]Elliott[/name_u]) so I don’t see why you couldn’t use Otti if you wanted to.
Thanks! I agree that people would probably think it was for [name_m]Otto[/name_m] but that doesn’t bother me. I also think that English-speaking people would probably not find Otti from elli[name_m]OTT[/name_m] natural as the sounds differ but then they also do with [name_m]Eli[/name_m] or [name_m]Lio[/name_m]/[name_m]Leo[/name_m], right?
I’m not the biggest nicknamer and actually like when nicknames are sort of derived from the name but then I look at my favourites and don’t find the standard nicknames very suiting!
I’m glad that you think Otti works for [name_u]Elliott[/name_u]
