I’ve been thinking a lot about [name]Ottoline[/name]/[name]Ottaline[/name] lately. In the posts I’ve seen about it, the name was being pronounced Awt-uh-leen, but I like Awt-uh-line so so much better. I also don’t know which spelling I like better… I’m leaning towards [name]Ottaline[/name], because the nn would be Otta, not [name]Otto[/name] and I think the “a” make’s it look a little girly-er. What do you guys think?? And [name]Do[/name] you think it would it would be mispronounced?? Thanks!
I’ve never known how to pronounce this one, I’ve seen lots of threads about it and always read it as Otter-line! Oops!
[name]Ottaline[/name] looks a lot prettier than [name]Ottoline[/name]! 
Well, I like the symmetry of [name]Ottoline[/name] a little more than the look of [name]Ottaline[/name] and I think an [name]Ottoline[/name] could still have the nn Otta. Although I’m not sure I love the nickname Otta. [name]Even[/name] pronouncing my American r’s it kind of makes me think of otter or odder. I suppose [name]Ottaline[/name]'s fine and it has nn [name]Tallie[/name] which I love a little more intuitively. Although [name]Ottoline[/name] could be Tolly which is kind of cool too.
I honestly have been thinking [name]Ottoline[/name] too. I mean I think it’s just the name is used more in French where line is pronounced Leen. [name]Caroline[/name] in French is [name]Caroleen[/name] too I think and that doesn’t mean [name]Caro[/name]-line is wrong in English. [name]Caro[/name]-leen would frankly be right in English too, as a French adaptation, its just that [name]Caroline[/name] has its own history of use with that prn in English.
I would think you could pull off [name]Otto[/name]-line if you wanted.
Are you American? if so, since that makes those t’s sound like d’s, is [name]Odeline[/name] or [name]Odelia[/name] or Odelie appealing?
Some celebrity used [name]Ottoline[/name] recently right? If you wouldn’t have used it earlier, maybe hold off for a while? [name]Ottilie[/name] used to get so much love on these boards and now it’s disappeared to [name]Ottoline[/name] : D.
