He loves (surprisingly, or maybe not) [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] with the nickname [name_m]Bear[/name_m]. He’s not a fan or [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] with the same nickname.
I love [name_f]Claire[/name_f]. I’ve tried convincing myself to like [name_f]Clara[/name_f], but I love [name_f]Claire[/name_f]. The spelling, the meaning, the origin, I love it. But it rhymes, in a super obvious way. I do love [name_m]Bear[/name_m], so I really don’t want to change it because DH loves it. He loves [name_f]Claire[/name_f] too, but doesn’t care about the rhyming since [name_m]Bear[/name_m] would likely grow out of his nickname. But with naming trends these days… I’m not so sure.
Can you think of any names with the classy, vintage-esque but still quirky vibe I think [name_f]Claire[/name_f] gives? That’s definitely my naming style. Another catch: our last name starts with M, is three syllables, and ends in a.
Such great names and I’m really liking the nickname [name_m]Bear[/name_m] for [name_m]Theodore[/name_m]! I feel the same way about [name_f]Claire[/name_f] and [name_f]Clara[/name_f]. I just can’t get behind [name_f]Clara[/name_f] but have ALWAYS loved the name [name_f]Claire[/name_f].
Here’s some other names I think may have a similar vibe:
[name_f]Hazel[/name_f]
[name_f]Violet[/name_f]
[name_f]Ivy[/name_f]
[name_f]Nora[/name_f]
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u]
[name_f]Olive[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f]
[name_f]Eloise[/name_f]
[name_f]Stella[/name_f]
[name_u]June[/name_u]
[name_f]Imogen[/name_f]
[name_f]Alice[/name_f]
[name_f]Bonnie[/name_f]
[name_f]Mabel[/name_f]
[name_f]Greta[/name_f]
[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f]
[name_f]Elise[/name_f]
[name_f]Penelope[/name_f]
[name_f]Tabitha[/name_f]
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f]
[name_f]Maia[/name_f]
[name_f]Audrey[/name_f]
[name_f]Gemma[/name_f]
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f]
[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]/[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]
[name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f]/[name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f]
[name_f]Clementine[/name_f]
[name_f]Edith[/name_f]
[name_f]Margot[/name_f]
Personally, I don’t think it’s a problem in the least. [name_m]Bear[/name_m] is a nickname, not a full name. They would be [name_f]Claire[/name_f] and [name_m]Theodore[/name_m], not [name_f]Claire[/name_f] and [name_m]Bear[/name_m]. He’s VERY likely to grow up and go “Hmm, I want to be [name_m]Ted[/name_m]/[name_u]Teddy[/name_u]/[name_u]Theo[/name_u]/[name_m]Thor[/name_m] etc” And then they’d be [name_f]Claire[/name_f] and [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] or [name_f]Claire[/name_f] and [name_m]Ted[/name_m]. Or anything else. I have a friend who’s oldest is [name_m]Bernard[/name_m] and they called him [name_m]Bear[/name_m]. By the time he was five, he was over it and wanting to be [name_m]Bard[/name_m]. Now he’s wanting to be [name_u]Bern[/name_u] (because it sounds like [name_m]Burn[/name_m] and he’s in that sort of age). Kids change all the time
Now, if it bothers you too much and you really want a new name, have you tried another [name_f]Claire[/name_f] type name that [name_f]Claire[/name_f] could be a nn for. [name_f]Clarice[/name_f] maybe? [name_f]Clarice[/name_f] and [name_m]Theodore[/name_m]. Or Clarimond/[name_f]Claribel[/name_f] etc.
When I hear “[name_f]Claire[/name_f],” I see a dainty girl, ballerina type, with sleek hair pulled back with a headband, maybe some pearls, and mary-janes. She is quiet, but not shy, and fun. I feel pink, white, and baby blue.
Names that give me a similar feeling (and don’t rhyme with [name_m]Bear[/name_m]!):
[name_f]Sophie[/name_f] (I notice this is on your list!)
[name_f]Alice[/name_f]
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Grace[/name_f]
[name_f]Audrey[/name_f]
[name_f]Emily[/name_f]
[name_f]Eloise[/name_f]
[name_f]Elise[/name_f]
[name_f]Cora[/name_f]
[name_f]Emma[/name_f]
P.S. I also love [name_f]Violet[/name_f] and [name_m]Theodore[/name_m].
I have a [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] who goes by [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] [name_m]Bear[/name_m] or sometimes just [name_m]Bear[/name_m]. My close girlfriend has a [name_f]Claire[/name_f] whom she sometimes calls [name_f]Claire[/name_f] [name_m]Bear[/name_m]. It’s confusing when were together. Yeah, I would say it’s too much for siblings. Maybe they grow out of nicknames and maybe they don’t.
Some possibilities (sorry for repeats). I’m not sure if I’m getting your style bc where I live [name_f]Claire[/name_f] is common, not quirky.
I agree with [name_f]Alice[/name_f]. I’ll suggest [name_f]Lyra[/name_f] (I suggest this a lot because I like it…lol) and [name_f]Camille[/name_f]. [name_f]Camille[/name_f] is a little softer than [name_f]Claire[/name_f] but I like the vintage sound of it.
Oh yeah… going out on a limb here… any chance you like [name_f]Clarity[/name_f]? You could nn her [name_f]Claire[/name_f] if [name_m]Bear[/name_m] outgrows his nn.
I’m not a big fan of [name_f]Clarity[/name_f], no I love [name_f]Liberty[/name_f] and [name_f]Honour[/name_f], but not so much the other virtue names.
I love [name_f]Lyra[/name_f], [name_f]Violet[/name_f], [name_u]June[/name_u], [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f], [name_f]Sophie[/name_f], [name_f]Daphne[/name_f], and [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]! They’re quite quirky here, where everyone seems to have a common Biblical or made-up name. dantea I wish I could count on him changing his nickname… I’d probably call him [name_u]Theo[/name_u] in his middle school, teen, and older years since it’s much more grown up while still being unique. My only problem, though not really a problem, is DH LOVES [name_m]Bear[/name_m]! It must be a man thing
I’d love more suggestions, maybe nature-esque names? Suggestions for other nicknames for [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] would be great too, ones that are cool for an elementary or middle school boy would be great!
I really love [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] with [name_u]Ruby[/name_u], [name_f]Calla[/name_f], [name_f]Marigold[/name_f], [name_f]Olive[/name_f], and [name_f]Hazel[/name_f]. Vintage, quirky and cute!
I loved the suggestion of [name_f]Violet[/name_f] and [name_m]Theodore[/name_m]! if the rhyming bothers you enough to sway from [name_f]Claire[/name_f]. =)
I think you’re right about naming trends… [name_m]Bear[/name_m] will probably seem way cooler than any other nn for [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] when he is in middle and high school, so I could definitely see the nn sticking at least until college.
Other names like [name_f]Claire[/name_f] (probably a ton of repeats, I’m multitasking)
Have you tried searching for variations of [name_f]Claire[/name_f]? If you like naturey, vintage names how about

Mother of [name_f]Willow[/name_f] [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f]
I can’t see a boy reaching the age of 10 and still going by the nickname [name_m]Bear[/name_m]. I bet he’ll grow out of it by the time he’s in grade school, so I would stick with [name_f]Claire[/name_f].
