Our son’s name is [name]Camden[/name] [name]Gray[/name]. ([name]Camden[/name] from the little town in South [name]Carolina[/name] where we met, [name]Gray[/name] is a family name). Our last name is two syllables. I’m getting anxious to pick this little girl’s name! I feel like there’s a little more “freedom” in picking girls names… but don’t want it to sound strange with [name]Camden[/name]. We’re obviously drawn toward nature names and we definitely like more unusual names. Thoughts?
We’re REALLY struggling with middle names too if you have any thoughts about that…
I like [name]Wren[/name] and [name]Della[/name]. I love [name]Lark[/name], too, but I think [name]Wren[/name] and [name]Della[/name] fit better with [name]Camden[/name]. I think [name]Wren[/name] [name]Adella[/name] would be gorgeous!
I love almost all of them! I’m a big fan of nature names. My favorites are [name]Prairie[/name], [name]Meadow[/name], and [name]Wren[/name]. I’ve also been drawn to [name]Fern[/name] lately, but I feel the other 3 have more mass appeal. I think any of the names you listed would go well with [name]Camden[/name]. [name]How[/name] about a very feminine, longer mn to go with the fn choices? Maybe something like [name]Josephine[/name], [name]Arabella[/name], or [name]Callista[/name]?
I love the sound of [name]Camden[/name] and [name]Clover[/name] as a sibset. That just jumped out to me as the perfect pair. My other favorites are [name]Wren[/name], [name]Della[/name], [name]Fern[/name] and [name]Lark[/name] in that order, but [name]Clover[/name]'s my #1.
I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Maple[/name], that would be my pick with [name]Camden[/name], next would be [name]Prairie[/name]. My runners up would be [name]Della[/name], [name]Clover[/name], [name]Meadow[/name] and [name]Lark[/name].
[name]Lovely[/name] name choices!
[name]Bluebell[/name] – I think it’s a little to fanciful as a fn.
[name]Clover[/name] – See above. [name]Just[/name] nms I guess
[name]Della[/name] – [name]Love[/name] this! Strong sound, but so pretty at the same time!
[name]Dove[/name] – A little too soft sounding for a fn. Also reminds me of the brand.
[name]Fern[/name] – This is so lovely. Understated, but has a definite presence.
[name]Lark[/name] – This is really beautiful too! I like the instant image of a happy songbird.
[name]Maple[/name] – This would be a brave choice, but I think it is really cool and not that different from [name]Mabel[/name].
[name]Meadow[/name] – This is pretty. I’d probably use it as a middle though.
[name]Prairie[/name] – See above
[name]Wren[/name] – I love the name! Has a lot of qualities in common with fern, but it sounds a little more chic and has the nice bird image as well. I’m not sure how [name]Camden[/name] and [name]Wren[/name] would go together though. : / It’s a little tough to say. [name]Camden[/name] and [name]Fern[/name] might be the better option as they don’t sound so similar.
Some middle name ideas:
[name]Wren[/name] [name]Eliora[/name]
[name]Fern[/name] [name]Eloise[/name]
[name]Della[/name] [name]Maple[/name]
[name]Wren[/name] [name]Bluebell[/name]
[name]Bluebell[/name] - a little too fanciful, especially with [name]Camden[/name]
[name]Clover[/name] - like the name, but would avoid another C name with [name]Camden[/name]
[name]Della[/name] - the [name]Del[/name] doesn’t work with the den in [name]Camden[/name]
[name]Dove[/name] - very pretty, would work well
[name]Fern[/name] - really like this, just not my fave on your list
[name]Lark[/name] - really like this
[name]Maple[/name] - this is gorgeous! not too out there, but a little more fun and would work well with [name]Camden[/name]
[name]Meadow[/name] - it’s OK, feel it’s not as fresh as most of your other choices
[name]Prairie[/name] - not a fan of the way this sounds
[name]Wren[/name] - love [name]Wren[/name], but not how it sounds with [name]Camden[/name].
[name]Maple[/name] is my favourite for first name, followed by [name]Fern[/name]. I love [name]Dove[/name] a lot, but it makes such a great middle, I can’t think of a combo for it as first. [name]Bluebell[/name] isn’t really my style, its cute but I think I would go either [name]Blue[/name], itself, as a middle, or another -bell name like [name]Maybelle[/name].
[name]Lark[/name] is pretty but a bit jagged, with that one syllable and k ending. [name]Lilac[/name] is similar but a little softer?
I think [name]Wren[/name] fits the best. Others that aren’t so bad are [name]Lark[/name] and [name]Clover[/name].
[name]Lark[/name] imo doesn’t fit though with [name]Camden[/name] and if you use [name]Clover[/name] you have two c names… personally I find that cheesy/matchy.
The others just don’t fit at all or would work better as a middle like [name]Bluebell[/name]. But this is just my opinion.
[name]Maple[/name] - this is my favorite!
[name]Lark[/name] - gorgeous, I like this one a lot as well
[name]Clover[/name] - pretty, I like it and goes nicely with [name]Camden[/name] I think
[name]Wren[/name] - beautiful! love it
[name]Fern[/name] - lovely, one of my favorites
[name]Della[/name] - beautiful, you could also use this as a nickname for lots of lovely names…Candle, [name]Adelaide[/name], [name]Delta[/name], [name]Madeline[/name], [name]Kendell[/name]
[name]Dove[/name] - very pretty, can also be a nn for [name]Davina[/name]
[name]Prairie[/name] - it’s a pretty word, but I don’t like it as a name, not any nn’s I like, pray? ray? airy?
[name]Meadow[/name] - again it’s a pretty word, but I can’t see it as a name with nn’s–dow? mo? med?
[name]Bluebell[/name] - bit too out there for me
You could loosely follow the theme of a color for the middle name, there are a lot of gorgeous color names out there:
[name]Maple[/name] [name]Scarlett[/name]
[name]Lark[/name] [name]Cerise[/name]
[name]Clover[/name] [name]Claret[/name]
[name]Wren[/name] [name]Sienna[/name]
[name]Fern[/name] [name]Magenta[/name]
[name]Della[/name] [name]Coral[/name]
I like [name]Wren[/name] the best and I think it would fit well with [name]Camden[/name]. That being said, I also like [name]Della[/name]. I don’t really fancy any of your other names…
[name]Bluebell[/name] - sounds like a cow’s name. I like the idea of naming her [name]Belle[/name] though
[name]Clover[/name] - I couldn’t because it’s a restaurant I go to once a week in my city.
[name]Della[/name] - I think this is my favorite of the list. [name]Del[/name] and [name]Cam[/name], that’s cute
[name]Dove[/name] - Fine
[name]Fern[/name] - Reminds me of Ferngully
[name]Lark[/name] - Too harsh, not very lady like
[name]Maple[/name] - [name]Mabel[/name] is better
[name]Meadow[/name] - Sounds like she’s destined to be a hippie. You have to remember, what if she decides she wants to be a scientist or a teacher or a lawyer or doctor or on wall street? She’ll never be respected with the name [name]Meadow[/name] in the professional world.
[name]Prairie[/name] - same as [name]Meadow[/name]
[name]Wren[/name] - I like this name a lot but it does not go with [name]Camden[/name] because of the double “en” sound.
I think [name]Della[/name] is your best bet. [name]Della[/name] [name]Rae[/name]?
ETA: I love the idea of [name]Dove[/name] as a nickname for [name]Davina[/name]. I just heard that name for the first time today and love it!
my vote is from [name]Wren[/name] or [name]Meadow[/name]. I actually really like [name]Wren[/name] and [name]Meadow[/name] as the middle. [name]Wren[/name] [name]Meadow[/name] sounds so pretty!
I really like @kala_way’s suggestion of a mn that is a color. [name]Bluebell[/name] could be a really cute mn since it’s already on your list and has a beautiful feminin feel to it. I think it would be especially nice with a shorter first name like [name]Wren[/name] or [name]Fern[/name].
That said I like that your son is named after a town - [name]Bluebell[/name] is also a name of a town in [name]Alabama[/name] as well as PA (I think). So I like the resemblance.
My favorites are [name]Bluebell[/name] (I know I’m in the minority), [name]Wren[/name], [name]Fern[/name] and [name]Clover[/name].
[name]Bluebell[/name]- dislike. It’s just too out there & too easy to make fun of imo. [name]Bell[/name] [name]Blue[/name] might work?
[name]Clover[/name]- cute. I would use it in the middle.
[name]Della[/name]- I like it. Maybe [name]Delta[/name] or [name]Adele[/name]
[name]Dove[/name]- don’t like it. [name]Love[/name] is cute, especially in the middle.
][name]Fern[/name] my favorite one! So sweet!
[name]Lark[/name]- cute. I like Larken or [name]Lake[/name] as well.
[name]Maple[/name]- not my favorite
[name]Meadow[/name] this is ok
[name]Prairie[/name] cute. [name]Love[/name] it.
[name]Wren[/name] goes best with [name]Camden[/name]
I like [name]Dove[/name], [name]Fern[/name] and [name]Maple[/name]! I met a lady named [name]Lark[/name].
As for middle names, I love to go ‘crazy’ with middle names because they are a good conversation piece in the future, so maybe something like a favorite book/movie character or a word that means something special to you (like you used [name]Camden[/name] for your son because it was where you met). [name]Just[/name] think when someone asks your child when they are older ‘What’s your middle name?’ and instead of them saying ‘the usual’ names they’d say something like ‘My middle name is [name]Merida[/name] because “Brave” was the movie my parents went on their first date.’ or something that has a story connected with it! I love stories with names.
Plus, when you hear a story of someone’s name, it’s unforgettable, so the person is (in theory) unforgettable. I remember the lady I met named [name]Lark[/name] (I don’t really know her that well) mostly because her name is [name]Lark[/name]! I doubt I would remember her if her name had been more common.
[name]Della[/name], [name]Fern[/name], [name]Wren[/name], and [name]Lark[/name] are the top ones for me, with some of the others as middle name possibilities:
I also like [name]Della[/name] [name]Wren[/name] or [name]Della[/name] [name]Fern[/name].
Have you considered using [name]Carolina[/name] as a middle name? You honored the town where you met with your son’s name. Why not honor the state in your daughter’s? It would be nice with any of your one-syllable first name choices, I think!
