First of all, a big thank you to this forum for helping me stay sane during ttc and IVF treatments. It helps me focus on something positive (baby names!) instead of stressing or worrying. So if you see a lot of random posts from me over the next few weesks…that’s why
I just came across the name [name_m]Ozias[/name_m], meaning “salvation” in Greek. We are Christians and love unique names so it grabbed my attention. What do you think? Is it too unusual? Does it sound useable?
[name_m]Ozias[/name_m] is super cool! I think it’s a bold but usable choice. It’s uncommon but easy to spell and pronounce, and Ozzy/Ozi or Zi would be great nicknames.
I love Ozias!! Such a sharp and cool name with sweet nn Ozzie!! Also a literary reference in there too (Ozias Midwinter from Armadale by [name_u]Wilkie[/name_u] Collins)
How would you pronounce? As my first instinct was a long i like Elias but having looked online it seems it’s Oh-zee-us? Maybe I’m just being silly.
Pronunciation uncertainty aside - on paper, I really like the look of this name and love the nn potential of Oz / Ozzie! Also the meaning behind the name is great. I think it would be a good choice.
I know a little [name_m]Ozias[/name_m]! (It’s pronounced oh-zye-us, like Elias.) He goes by his full name or by [name_m]Ozzy[/name_m]. It’s unusual, but very usable - I’m a fan!
I’ve only ever heard oh-zye-us (like Elias) in an English-speaking context. I guess maybe the pronunciation is less clear than I originally thought but I would guess most people would assume oh-zye-us since so many similar Biblical names use that sound.
