Pacific Northwest-inspired names

Hi everyone! We’re trying to think of a Pacific Northwest-inspired middle name for our new baby. I’m looking for suggestions for names that convey the lush, green, forest-y, misty, magical feel of the region. Baby is due in 5 weeks!

First name will likely be Miles. I’m including our current ideas in a poll but we would also love some fresh suggestions! It’s a little tricky with Miles since it already feels noun-y.

Miles Aaron - Aaron has a few different meanings, but one of them is “high mountain” and it makes me think of Mt. Rainier.

Miles Rowan - One of only tree names we like. More common varieties up here are Douglas (fir) and Cedar but neither have felt right for us.

Miles Arbol - Means “tree” in Spanish. Husband has Latino heritage but I worry this is a bit too quirky haha

  • Miles Rowan

I’m from the Puget Sound area and can offer a few suggestions:

[name_u]Miles[/name_u] [name_u]Noble[/name_u], after the sought after noble fir
[name_u]Miles[/name_u] Salish, after the Salish [name_u]Sea[/name_u]
[name_u]Miles[/name_u] [name_m]Rainier[/name_m], only if you no longer live in the region
[name_u]Miles[/name_u] [name_m]Gifford[/name_m], after the [name_m]Gifford[/name_m] Pinchot [name_u]Forest[/name_u]
[name_u]Miles[/name_u] [name_m]Hemlock[/name_m], after the western hemlock
[name_u]Miles[/name_u] [name_u]Laramie[/name_u], which means canopy of leafy boughs
[name_u]Miles[/name_u] [name_u]Ranger[/name_u], forest guardian

Thank you! I really like [name_u]Noble[/name_u] and [name_u]Laramie[/name_u]! Yes, I’m still in the area and I agree [name_m]Rainier[/name_m] is perhaps a little too on the nose.

I love [name_u]Miles[/name_u] [name_u]Forest[/name_u]! [name_f]My[/name_f] partner can’t get over the [name_m]Forrest[/name_m] Gump association and has vetoed it.

The Salish are a group of indigenous people in that region, so Salish is probably a no-go.

Yes, we want to avoid any inadvertent cultural appropriation and that has ruled out a lot of lovely names in the region. For example, I think [name_u]Sequoia[/name_u] is a beautiful name, but not appropriate for my family to use.

Yeah, I don’t think I realized that. It’s such a pretty word.

[name_u]Miles[/name_u] [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] is so handsome!

If you’re feeling a bit more adventurous/outdoorsy, these give me some more rugged, nature vibes:

[name_u]Miles[/name_u] [name_u]Bay[/name_u]
[name_u]Miles[/name_u] [name_u]Birch[/name_u]
[name_u]Miles[/name_u] [name_u]Everett[/name_u]
[name_u]Miles[/name_u] [name_u]Evergreen[/name_u]
[name_u]Miles[/name_u] Grey/Greyson
[name_u]Miles[/name_u] [name_u]Harbor[/name_u]
[name_u]Miles[/name_u] [name_u]Maxwell[/name_u] (Maxwell means “great stream”)
[name_u]Miles[/name_u] [name_m]Thatcher[/name_m]
[name_u]Miles[/name_u] [name_u]Wesley[/name_u]
