Palmer .. boy or girl name?

I love [name_m]Palmer[/name_m] for our next born due in [name_u]March[/name_u]… we already have [name_f]Maple[/name_f] and [name_u]Cedar[/name_u]. We live in [name_m]Hawaii[/name_m] and I love the nod to palm trees. However I was reading that it’s a trendy new girl name? Is it???

It reads all boy to me and I love the subtle nod to [name_m]Hawaii[/name_m]’s nature. I don’t like masculine names on girls but I’m sure there are some people who may think about using it on a girl. I have met a female [name_m]Archer[/name_m], [name_m]Austin[/name_m], etc., but I think generally, anyone about to meet a [name_m]Palmer[/name_m], would expect a male.

It sound more masculine than feminine to me, but if you want more tree-related ideas:
Alder
[name_m]Birch[/name_m]
[name_u]Aspen[/name_u]
[name_f]Cypress[/name_f]
[name_m]Hawthorn[/name_m]
[name_u]Oak[/name_u]
[name_m]Pine[/name_m]
Hackberry

I know a [name_m]Palmer[/name_m] that is a girl, but I thought it was a boy name initially. I would say it’s gender neutral.

IMHO it sounds more masculine to me. I wouldn’t think of it as a girls name even if it’s becoming more gender neutral.

Masculine all the way for me.

I think it is very gender neutral but I love it on a boy! I also love it for your family.

There is an [name_m]Adam[/name_m] Sandler movie ([name_m]Just[/name_m] go with it) with a female character named [name_m]Palmer[/name_m] that takes place in [name_m]Hawaii[/name_m]. That may have pushed the trend of [name_m]Palmer[/name_m] for a girl but I think it is uncommon enough to go beautifully with either gender.

I have a male cousin named [name_m]Palmer[/name_m] so it skews masculine to me. But it’s an uncommon name that with no real history of being associated as mainly masculine or feminine, so I think it’s up for interpretation! It only recently entered the top 1000 for girls in the US so I wouldn’t worry about it too much.

It’s lovely! It was one of the fastest risers for girls last year, but it’s still super uncommon, and I think it’s incredibly handsome on a boy. Gender neutral names are becoming more and more mainstream every year, I think it’s totally usable and a wonderful option for you!
