What is your opinion of using this on a baby? It’s been a guilty pleasure name for me for manyyyy years, since I was a kid. I’ve kind of grown embarrassed of even telling people now. But I’m kind of entertaining the thought of adding it to my serious list. I know the [name_u]Paris[/name_u] [name_m]Hilton[/name_m] association kind of killed it, but I thought that maybe at least [name_u]Michael[/name_u] [name_m]Jackson[/name_m]'s daughter would take the attention away from that :-?
I like [name_u]Paris[/name_u] okay, but because I know more boy [name_u]Paris[/name_u]-es than girl [name_u]Paris[/name_u]-es, I prefer the exotic [name_f]Parisa[/name_f] for a girl. [name_u]Paris[/name_u] is pretty cool–although I probably think so because I know a very lovely family with the surname [name_u]Paris[/name_u], and my best friend was from [name_u]Paris[/name_u], and I just love [name_m]French[/name_m] things in general!–but while I would prefer [name_f]Parisa[/name_f] for a girl, I don’t mind [name_u]Paris[/name_u] at all. I also think of the [name_u]Paris[/name_u] from mythology, which is neither here nor there for me. I’m not a huge mythology person, so it doesn’t mean a ton to me, although it does register that [name_u]Paris[/name_u] is a prince in Greek mythology, which makes it even more of a boys’ name to me. I love [name_f]Parisa[/name_f], though.
I myself wouldn’t choose the name [name_u]Paris[/name_u], but if I met a girl with this name, I’d think it sounded pretty.
i think paris can be a lovely name, especially if you’ve loved it for years!
For years I’ve gone to school with a girl named [name_u]Paris[/name_u], so I think it’s usable. I do prefer [name_f]Pari[/name_f] for some reason. I think there are so many lovely [name_m]French[/name_m] names out there, I would look at all of them before adding [name_u]Paris[/name_u] to my list, so I would like [name_u]Paris[/name_u] better as a middle name. (Can you imagine? [name_f]Lucienne[/name_f] [name_u]Paris[/name_u] or [name_f]Jeanette[/name_f] [name_f]Pari[/name_f]? swoons)
I would not use [name_u]Paris[/name_u] on a baby. If anything, it being [name_u]Michael[/name_u] [name_m]Jackson[/name_m]'s daughter’s name would [name_m]ADD[/name_m] (unpleasant) attention to [name_u]Paris[/name_u], not that it did not have enough of it from [name_u]Paris[/name_u] [name_m]Hilton[/name_m], the city and [name_u]Paris[/name_u] of [name_m]Troy[/name_m].
On a girl or a boy? Boy Parises remind me of [name_m]Shakespeare[/name_m] and Greek mythology. Girl Parises remind me of a certain spoiled heiress. But all in all, I don’t see the appeal. [name_m]Even[/name_m] without the associations, it doesn’t sound very nice to me. I like the alternative suggestion of [name_f]Parisa[/name_f]. (pah-[name_f]REE[/name_f]-sah).
Other Capital City Names:
- [name_f]Athena[/name_f] (for Athens)
- [name_m]Berlin[/name_m] (definitely cool)
- [name_m]Oslo[/name_m] (I am loving this as an [name_m]Otto[/name_m] alternative)
- [name_u]Cairo[/name_u]
- [name_f]Jakarta[/name_f]
- Lisbon??
- [name_u]London[/name_u]
- [name_f]Barcelona[/name_f] (not the capital—that’s Madrid— but still a nice city name, so I included it)
- Ottawa, maybe
- Praia
- [name_m]Santiago[/name_m] (already a name, but also the capital of Chile)
- [name_f]Sofia[/name_f] (a name and the capital of Bulgaria, too!)
- [name_f]Vienna[/name_f] (REALLY LIKE THIS!!!)
[name_u]Milan[/name_u], [name_f]Geneva[/name_f], [name_u]Austen[/name_u], really like most and are ruined by associated attitudes. Who worries about [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_f]Virginia[/name_f] [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] now?
But to [name_u]Paris[/name_u]. I love the name-we have two in the family. My nieces surname fits well and she receives so many compliments and the occasional [name_m]Hilton[/name_m] comment.
My cousin is forty and was my first known [name_u]Paris[/name_u] but am unsure how it worked out for him.
For me it fits the category of being not used enough and yet in some areas goes too much. That makes no sensesorry. [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] is similar to me. Beautiful but just overused, but not enough that you don’t comment. [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] may not have as much baggage as [name_u]Paris[/name_u] now but in Gmothers day- [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] women- and all that.
In the end, I think its Beautiful as with [name_f]Pari[/name_f] and [name_f]Parisa[/name_f] and i would use it. I think positives outweigh negatives and is is really lovely name. Negatives can happen to much less well known names. Good luck.
