So my dh and I are into our second month of ttc #4. With our third-born child I experienced a partial placental abruption at 33 weeks gestation and [name_f]Iris[/name_f] was born small but healthy and came home two weeks later. We are now wanting to try for another baby, and although we’ve only been actively trying for a short time, we have been leaving the chance for pregnancy open for several weeks now. So when my past period was late we were very excited! Then when both urine and blood tests came back negative and my period still hadn’t come after a week, and I was having pregnancy symptoms, I thought something must be wrong. At 10 days late my period came. It was a very heavy flow for 2 days (sorry for tmi!) and then stopped completely. I just thought that although I am normally a 29 day cycle and bleed for 5 days, there must be some explanation and I would be back on track now that my cycle started again. Well here I am now tracking ovulation and waiting for my most fertile days, which should be just around the bend…and AF shows up again yesterday! I don’t understand. It seems to be gone now, but this is so odd and I’m very concerned. I do have a doctor appointment, but before I go I wanted to check in to see if anyone here has experienced anything similar or has any advice. Thanks!
I am not sure about the first period thing… BUT if you were expecting to ovulate soon the bleeding could have been from ovulation. I tend to spot when ovulating. some people bleed more than others… Maybe that was it?
I have had a placenta abruption in 2 pregnancies and placenta insufficiency (IUGR for the babies) in another. For most people, placenta abruption is a single incident that does not affect any other pregnancies or situations. What I mean is if you have one placenta abruption, it does not mean you will definitely have it again- your odds are slightly higher than an average person though. I have never heard of an abruption causing AF problems, TTC problems, or early miscarriages.
HOWEVER, if you are like me (and some others who suffer from ongoing placenta problems (also associated with high blood pressure) in pregnancy, you may have an underlying condition. I have a mild blood clotting disorder and autoimmune condition that seems to be triggered during pregnancy. This can cause pregnancy (but not AF) complications.
I’m not sure what to make of the situation you pose here. Sounds like a doctor’s appointment makes sense for you. Are you just coming off a birth control or IUD? That could cause irregular cycles, mid-cycle bleeding, abnormal bleeding, and a few cycles to get you back on track with cycling/ovulating. [name_f]Do[/name_f] give TTC some time because remember, even in perfect conditions you aren’t guaranteed to conceive each cycle. The irregular bleeding is more concerning than the fact that you aren’t pregnant after 1-2 cycles.
