Ironically, I found this on a worst-name list. WDYT?
Honestly, I do not like at all. As a name for a pet or a fantasy-type character in a story, yeah go for it (we had a Shetland pony called Patch when I was young), but on a child/teen/adult…yeah, not liking it in the slightest.
It makes me think of patching up a wound, eye patches, and the pieces of fabric that people put on their vests (e.g., rock and roll patches, biker patches, etc.). I don’t like it that much for a fn, but as a nn I think it could be cute.
I think it’s really cute as a nickname for [name_m]Patrick[/name_m], but definitely not a stand alone first!
Reminds me of dogs.
I agree that it reminds me of dogs.
Patch could work as a nickname but it doesn’t work as a standalone name.
Patch is a dog name. I really don’t like it on humans, even as a nickname.
When I lived in [name_f]Asia[/name_f], I had a camel named [name_m]Patrick[/name_m] and we called him Patch most of the time, so that is what I automatically think of. But that is a personal association. [name_m]Patrick[/name_m] nn Patch could be cute for a boy while he is little
Patch is on the worst name list for a reason. Reminds me of clothes with holes in them that need to be mended as well as dogs.
exactly what I was going to say
yep, this exactly.
Thanks, everyone. It’s more of a Character Only Name for me, anyway.
I think it’s a cute nickname, but I wouldn’t use it as a stand alone name
Yeah I think it might be ok as a nickname but I think it sounds like the name of a clown.
It belongs on a worst names list…sounds like an insult.
