Perceptions - My List!

I’m mainly just curious, but I’d love to know how others perceive the names on my list, and how they’d describe my list as a whole!

Here’s what my “shortlist” is:

Amelia, [name_f]Poppy[/name_f], [name_f]Florence[/name_f], [name_f]Lily[/name_f], [name_f]Sophie[/name_f], [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u], [name_f]Elsie[/name_f], [name_f]Alice[/name_f], [name_f]Rosie[/name_f], [name_f]Matilda[/name_f], [name_u]Ruby[/name_u], [name_f]Millie[/name_f], [name_f]Imogen[/name_f], [name_f]Maisie[/name_f], [name_f]Lola[/name_f], [name_f]Violet[/name_f], [name_f]Lottie[/name_f], [name_f]Nancy[/name_f], [name_f]Zara[/name_f], [name_f]Georgia[/name_f], [name_f]Gracie[/name_f], [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], [name_f]Orla[/name_f], [name_f]Arabella[/name_f], [name_f]Martha[/name_f], [name_f]Lyla[/name_f], [name_f]Felicity[/name_f], [name_f]Edie[/name_f], [name_f]Esmae[/name_f], [name_f]Betsy[/name_f], [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f], [name_f]Tilly[/name_f], [name_f]Nellie[/name_f], [name_f]Polly[/name_f], [name_f]Hattie[/name_f], [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f], [name_f]Effie[/name_f], [name_f]Emmie[/name_f], [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f], [name_u]Josie[/name_u], [name_f]Minnie[/name_f], [name_f]Dottie[/name_f], [name_u]Billie[/name_u], [name_f]Honey[/name_f], [name_f]Dulcie[/name_f], [name_f]Katy[/name_f], [name_f]Sunday[/name_f], [name_f]Hollie[/name_f], [name_f]Clover[/name_f], [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] & [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f]

Names I like that were vetoed: [name_f]Bluebell[/name_f], [name_f]Blossom[/name_f], [name_f]Pixie[/name_f]

Questions:

  • What vibe do you get from my list? [name_m]How[/name_m] would you describe the style?
  • What names do you love, like or would lose?
  • What do you imagine a little girl with these names to be like?

Thank you! :two_hearts:

You have a very floral/natural, sweet and bright vintage style! You like names that are distinctive and fresh without being too unfamiliar. You are also a fan of cute nickname names.
[name_f]My[/name_f] favorites are [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], [name_f]Lily[/name_f], [name_f]Alice[/name_f], [name_f]Matilda[/name_f], [name_u]Ruby[/name_u], [name_f]Violet[/name_f], [name_f]Georgia[/name_f], [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f], and [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f].

My least favorites are [name_f]Gracie[/name_f], [name_f]Esmae[/name_f], [name_f]Tilly[/name_f], [name_f]Nellie[/name_f], [name_f]Polly[/name_f], [name_f]Hattie[/name_f], [name_f]Effie[/name_f], [name_u]Billie[/name_u], and [name_f]Honey[/name_f], though this is just a matter of personal preference.

I imagine a girl with most of these names to be clever, spunky, and a little odd.

I don’t know where you’re based, but all of the names on your list are really popular in the UK, and for the most part, significantly less so in the States, so it seems like you have quite a British style. You’ve got a lot of pretty nickname-names, which are cute, but quite young. I love [name_f]Bluebell[/name_f], [name_f]Blossom[/name_f] and [name_f]Pixie[/name_f], so I think your partner missed a trick on those.

In answer to your questions:
~ You have a cutesy, feminine, British, milkshakey (I don’t know if that makes sense) vibe
~ A girl with these names would be (probably) cute, girly and British
~ [name_f]My[/name_f] favourites are:

  • [name_f]Poppy[/name_f]
  • [name_f]Felicity[/name_f]
  • [name_f]Edie[/name_f]
  • [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f]
  • [name_f]Nellie[/name_f]
  • [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f]
  • [name_f]Dulcie[/name_f]
  • [name_f]Clover[/name_f]

~ Ones that don’t work for me so much are:

  • [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]
  • [name_f]Zara[/name_f]
  • [name_f]Georgia[/name_f]
  • [name_f]Gracie[/name_f]
  • [name_f]Martha[/name_f]
  • [name_f]Polly[/name_f]
  • [name_f]Hollie[/name_f]

Overall, I like your list a lot, and it comprises (for the most part) names of people I grew up with…

I definitely get a girly, whimsical vibe from your list. All of the names have very sweet sounds and most of them definitely fall into the vintage and/or floral categories. I’d imagine girls named from your list would just have to be cute!

My top favorites: [name_f]Lily[/name_f], [name_f]Sophie[/name_f], [name_f]Felicity[/name_f], [name_f]Betsy[/name_f], [name_f]Polly[/name_f], [name_f]Nellie[/name_f], [name_u]Josie[/name_u], & [name_f]Daisy[/name_f]
Personally, I find [name_f]Poppy[/name_f], [name_f]Honey[/name_f], [name_f]Dulcie[/name_f], and [name_f]Clover[/name_f] a little too cutesy, tbh. I just don’t see them aging well. But that may just be me. :woman_shrugging:t3:

Overall, I love your style! It’s simply adorable.

Love!
I would call your style ‘Sweet Vintage Delights’.

My favourites are [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], [name_f]Sophie[/name_f], [name_f]Elsie[/name_f], [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u], [name_f]Violet[/name_f], [name_f]Millie[/name_f], [name_f]Imogen[/name_f], [name_f]Maisie[/name_f], [name_f]Nellie[/name_f], [name_f]Georgia[/name_f], [name_f]Edie[/name_f] and [name_f]Emmie[/name_f].

I only really dislike [name_u]Billie[/name_u], [name_f]Orla[/name_f] and [name_f]Honey[/name_f]. The rest I’m pretty neutral about.

A little girl with one of these fun and fresh names would be sweet, spunky and adventurous.

Love: [name_f]Sophie[/name_f], [name_f]Emmie[/name_f] (spelled [name_f]Emmy[/name_f] or [name_f]Emme[/name_f]), [name_f]Katy[/name_f] (spelled [name_f]Katie[/name_f])

Poppy, [name_f]Florence[/name_f], [name_f]Zara[/name_f], [name_f]Honey[/name_f], [name_f]Bluebell[/name_f] and [name_f]Blossom[/name_f] are all on my list as well. I also love [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] and [name_f]Hattie[/name_f].

Others I like a lot from your list:

Martha
[name_f]Aurelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Georgia[/name_f]
[name_f]Esmae[/name_f] (though I prefer Esmé or [name_f]Ismay[/name_f])
[name_f]Felicity[/name_f]
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u]
[name_f]Orla[/name_f]
[name_f]Dulcie[/name_f]

[name_f]Inga[/name_f]/Ingrid
[name_f]Bijou[/name_f]
[name_f]Lettie[/name_f]
[name_f]Hedy[/name_f]/Hettie

Your list gives me a friendly, quirky, familiar vibe. It also seems to have a little bit of British flair.

I love: [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], [name_f]Lottie[/name_f], [name_f]Felicity[/name_f], [name_f]Edie[/name_f], [name_f]Hattie[/name_f], [name_f]Emmie[/name_f], [name_u]Josie[/name_u]

I think a little girl with the names on your list would be a happy, friendly, and sweet child who is maybe a little creative or adventurous

Super sweet and girly! Super dainty and almost vintage names!

Love [name_f]Elsie[/name_f], [name_f]Rosie[/name_f], [name_f]Maisie[/name_f], [name_f]Lottie[/name_f], [name_f]Nancy[/name_f], [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], [name_f]Tilly[/name_f], [name_f]Hattie[/name_f], [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f], [name_f]Dottie[/name_f], [name_f]Honey[/name_f], [name_f]Sunday[/name_f], [name_f]Hollie[/name_f] and [name_f]Daisy[/name_f]!
Personally I’d lose [name_f]Martha[/name_f], [name_f]Sophie[/name_f], [name_f]Millie[/name_f], [name_u]Billie[/name_u], [name_f]Katy[/name_f] and [name_f]Edie[/name_f]

I’d imagine a little girl with one of these names to be very soft spoken, loves flowers and fairytales, just a lovely sweet little girl

Very sugary sweet (in a good way)! Also British and a little funky (again, in a good way).

Love: [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f], [name_f]Zara[/name_f], [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], [name_f]Esmae[/name_f] (no this spelling tho), [name_u]Billie[/name_u]

Really like: [name_f]Orla[/name_f], [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f], [name_f]Polly[/name_f], [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f], [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f], [name_f]Sunday[/name_f], [name_f]Dulcie[/name_f]

Like: [name_f]Poppy[/name_f], [name_f]Sophie[/name_f], [name_u]Ruby[/name_u], [name_f]Imogen[/name_f], [name_f]Maisie[/name_f], [name_f]Felicity[/name_f], [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], [name_f]Florence[/name_f], [name_f]Lily[/name_f], [name_f]Rosie[/name_f], [name_f]Lola[/name_f], [name_f]Lottie[/name_f], [name_f]Georgia[/name_f], [name_f]Lyla[/name_f], [name_f]Martha[/name_f], [name_f]Edie[/name_f], [name_f]Betsy[/name_f], [name_f]Minnie[/name_f], [name_f]Honey[/name_f], [name_f]Hollie[/name_f] (much prefer [name_u]Holly[/name_u] spelling), [name_f]Clover[/name_f], [name_f]Daisy[/name_f]

Lose: [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u], [name_f]Elsie[/name_f], [name_f]Alice[/name_f], [name_f]Matilda[/name_f], [name_f]Millie[/name_f], [name_f]Violet[/name_f], [name_f]Nancy[/name_f] (I go back & forth on [name_f]Nancy[/name_f]), [name_f]Gracie[/name_f], [name_f]Arabella[/name_f], [name_f]Tilly[/name_f], [name_f]Nellie[/name_f] (but I love [name_f]Nell[/name_f]), [name_f]Hattie[/name_f], [name_f]Effie[/name_f], [name_f]Emmie[/name_f], [name_u]Josie[/name_u], [name_f]Dottie[/name_f], [name_f]Katie[/name_f] (but like [name_f]Kate[/name_f])

And I’m not usually super great with imagining what a little girl with a certain name would be like, sorry!

Those are typical Nameberry favorites, which tend to favor UK names and sophisticated classics.
I like [name_f]Rosie[/name_f], [name_f]Millie[/name_f], [name_f]Matilda[/name_f], [name_f]Maisie[/name_f], [name_f]Georgia[/name_f], [name_f]Edie[/name_f], [name_f]Nellie[/name_f], [name_f]Hattie[/name_f], [name_f]Emmie[/name_f], [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f], and [name_f]Clover[/name_f].

Actually your names get a bit less traditional as they went on!

  1. Your vibe feels pretty mixed- the names that I used to associate with you were 90’s names like the classic teen girl in a semi-old movie- [name_u]Courtney[/name_u], [name_f]Stephanie[/name_f], [name_f]Heather[/name_f]. But now it’s a mix of cute names like [name_f]Daisy[/name_f], [name_f]Tilly[/name_f], and [name_f]Elsie[/name_f]; and older but fresh sounding names like [name_f]Florence[/name_f], [name_f]Matilda[/name_f], and [name_f]Imogen[/name_f]!
  2. Your list, sorted:
    [name_u]Love[/name_u]: [name_f]Poppy[/name_f], [name_f]Elsie[/name_f], [name_f]Alice[/name_f], [name_f]Imogen[/name_f], [name_f]Georgia[/name_f], [name_f]Felicity[/name_f], [name_f]Hattie[/name_f], [name_u]Josie[/name_u], [name_f]Katy[/name_f], [name_f]Sunday[/name_f], [name_f]Daisy[/name_f]
    Like: [name_f]Florence[/name_f], [name_f]Sophie[/name_f], rosie, [name_f]Maisie[/name_f], [name_f]Violet[/name_f], [name_f]Gracie[/name_f], [name_f]Betsy[/name_f], [name_f]Clover[/name_f], [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f]
    Lose: The ones that stand out to me as ones that I dislike are [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], [name_f]Lily[/name_f], [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] (I hate this name so much, I don’t know why), [name_f]Zara[/name_f], [name_f]Orla[/name_f], [name_f]Martha[/name_f], [name_f]Edie[/name_f], [name_f]Esmae[/name_f], [name_f]Polly[/name_f], [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f], [name_f]Effie[/name_f], [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f], Bilie, [name_f]Honey[/name_f], and [name_f]Hollie[/name_f]
  3. Most of these seem like they’d suit a sweet, loving girl!

Thank you so much everyone! This has been really cool to read through!! :two_hearts:

@yuma - I do actually love Primrose (just suggested this to S/O, he actually liked it too!), Honeysuckle (big GP for me!), Lettie and Belle! :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Love:
(most of these names give me the strong, independent woman vibe, which is why I love them)
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] - [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_f]Earhart[/name_f]
[name_f]Alice[/name_f] - Out of the classic Disney movies, Alice in Wonderland is one of the few that I’d want my child to be named after
[name_f]Rosie[/name_f] - [name_f]Rosie[/name_f] the Riveter
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f]
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u]
[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]
[name_f]Ophelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Tallulah[/name_f]
[name_u]Josie[/name_u]
[name_f]Dottie[/name_f] - I prefer this as a nn for [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] or Dorothia, but on it’s own is ok
[name_f]Hollie[/name_f] - I prefer the traditional [name_u]Holly[/name_u], but this spelling is ok
[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] - I love the association with the Friends character who is unapologetic about being her unique self, regardless of other people’s opinions

[name_f]Minnie[/name_f]
[name_u]Billie[/name_u] - Only if you’re a fan of [name_u]Billie[/name_u] [name_f]Eilish[/name_f], she’s too big of an artist for you to avoid being asked if that was your inspiration quite often, forever
[name_f]Sunday[/name_f]

Lose:
[name_f]Poppy[/name_f] - There’s a weird YouTuber (sorry if anyone’s a fan!) with a video of her just saying “I’m [name_f]Poppy[/name_f]” over and over super creepily
[name_f]Lily[/name_f] & [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] - [name_m]Way[/name_m] too common for my taste
[name_f]Elsie[/name_f] - Too close to [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] from Frozen for me
[name_f]Imogen[/name_f]
[name_f]Lola[/name_f] & [name_f]Tilly[/name_f] & [name_f]Polly[/name_f] & [name_f]Honey[/name_f] & [name_f]Clover[/name_f] & [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] - I don’t think this ages well, it feels childish on an adult women, for me
[name_f]Lottie[/name_f]
[name_f]Orla[/name_f] - Too close to the word “oral” for me
[name_f]Martha[/name_f]
[name_f]Edie[/name_f] - I think 99% of people would pronounce it like [name_m]Eddie[/name_m] instead of Ee-dee
[name_f]Nellie[/name_f]
[name_f]Hattie[/name_f]
[name_f]Effie[/name_f] - The Hunger Games
[name_f]Dolcie[/name_f]
[name_f]Katy[/name_f]

I really like your list, some names are too cutesy, but I like [name_f]Dulcie[/name_f], [name_f]Honey[/name_f], [name_f]Pixie[/name_f], [name_f]Blossom[/name_f], [name_f]Betsy[/name_f], [name_f]Millie[/name_f] and [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] the most… I would advise against the [name_f]Dottie[/name_f] it rhymes with Potty, I would suggest [name_f]Dolly[/name_f] itself.

I think your list is typical [name_f]English[/name_f].

Your style is very British; lots of nicknamey names and most of them are in the UK top 100 or so. It feels very of the moment, these are the names I see mentioned on NB all the time and that people are using for their daughters right now.

The only names I would lose are [name_f]Dottie[/name_f] and [name_f]Katy[/name_f]. I’d also change a few spellings ([name_f]Esmae[/name_f] to [name_f]Esme[/name_f], [name_f]Hollie[/name_f] to [name_u]Holly[/name_u] etc). [name_f]Dottie[/name_f] seems a bit too cutesy for an actual child, I’d either keep it as a middle or a nn for something like [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f]/Dorothea. And [name_f]Katy[/name_f] is a little dated, I see it as more of a mum name now.

Overall though I think you have a great list! There’s a lot of my favourites on here
