Perla (Italian name) ☁️

How would be the name Perla be perceived internationally? I am from Italy and here this is a word name meaning pearl that is very vintagey nice and rare. It gives me the same vibes of Ada or Flora or Gisella. However I am curious of how it is perceived out of Italy. Please tell me your country too.

Perla is a name that I have been kind of liking recently. What do you think would a Perla be like? What aesthetics do you envision?

Choose a sibset:

Perla and Bluma
Perla and Azelma
Perla and Allegra (Allegra means happy)
Perla and Serena (Serena means serene)
Perla and Adela
Perla and Olga
Perla and Menta (pearl and mint)
Perla and Greta
Perla and Marlene (but Marlene is German)
Perla and Frida.

Or suggest a new sibset

The last question: how would you say Perla?

I’d say it like Purr-la and wan’t to note La [name_f]Perla[/name_f] is a popular lingerie company.

I think it’s quite pretty! And a nice alternative to [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]. [name_f]Perla[/name_f] and [name_f]Allegra[/name_f] I am from the US and would like to meet someone with this name.

[name_f]Perla[/name_f] is lovely! It has a hint of vintage about it (a bit like [name_f]Lula[/name_f], [name_f]Eula[/name_f] or Della) but also international flair (like [name_f]Marcela[/name_f], [name_f]Alessia[/name_f], [name_f]Petra[/name_f] or Viviana).

[name_f]Perla[/name_f] gives me imagery of, well, pearls, but pearls in a range of different colours.

In terms of combos, I like these best (in order):

  1. [name_f]Perla[/name_f] and [name_f]Frida[/name_f]
  2. [name_f]Perla[/name_f] and [name_f]Bluma[/name_f]
  3. [name_f]Perla[/name_f] and [name_f]Greta[/name_f]
  4. [name_f]Perla[/name_f] and [name_f]Allegra[/name_f]

I think I’m a little biased, because it’s the same as the Greek word for [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]! Although I don’t believe it’s used as a name here, we pronounce it the same way you do and has the same obvious meaning, so it has lovely sea and jewel imagery :ocean: I think the sound is really frilly and airy, with a sunny and bold summery retro feel

I get the same vibes  Perla is beautiful! My favorite sibset of yours is Perla & Allegra (I also really like Greta & Frida). If I were to choose 2 brothers & sisters for Perla they would be: Hawthorne, Shiloh, Winsome, & Marigold :sun_with_face::herb:

I thought the Greek word was margarites? In fact, the name [name_f]Margarita[/name_f] and the variants [name_f]Margaret[/name_f], [name_f]Margherita[/name_f] etc come from that word.

Indeed [name_f]Perla[/name_f] is vintage in [name_f]Italy[/name_f] (in a good way) and it is quiet international because for what I know it is also used in Spanish.

I think it sounds really nice! It exists here too, spelled [name_f]Perla[/name_f] and Pärla. Both are very rare. I would say it’s a name that sounds very vintage and very modern at the same time. Despite how rare it is, I wouldn’t be too surprised to meet a 9 year old or a 90 year old with this name, but it feels impossible on a 45 year old, you know?

For aesthetics, something very feminine, but in a cosy, calm, vintage way. I’m picturing a bedroom with a dark solid wood vanity, with makeup brushes left out next to a pearl necklace. The bed is made of matching wood as the vanity. Draped over it is a faded quilt patched together from several different flowery pink fabrics. There’s a potted petunia on the windowsill.

I really like [name_f]Perla[/name_f] with [name_f]Serena[/name_f] and [name_f]Menta[/name_f]. I also like [name_f]Perla[/name_f] with [name_f]Doris[/name_f].

We also have a word that is very similar

The Swedish word for pearl is pärla. The word pärla also means bead (noun and verb). Because of this, the name feels “easy” and at home, although the spelling is slighlty different and the pronounciation might be off. I grabbed this audio from a TV show where they talk about pearls so you can hear how it’s pronounced over here. Sadly, I couldn’t edit the clip to less than 1 second, but better than just trying to describe the sound :man_shrugging:

The name [name_f]Margarita[/name_f] means daisy, and margarites means daisies, plural. The Greek word for pearl is perla or margaritari, depending on the context. A wild pearl inside a clam would be called a margaritari, but pearl used in a necklace, earrings, etc. would be called perla (it’s not wrong to call it margaritari, but calling it perla is more common)

I think it’s cute! I’ve known multiple Perla’s (always pronounced in Spanish as PEHD-lah), all older women, but I think it’s a cute vintage name. Definitely similar to some of the other names you listed like [name_f]Ada[/name_f] or [name_f]Flora[/name_f] (not [name_f]Gisella[/name_f] to me tho). It feels very sweet and dainty but strong at the same time, makes me think of white linens and sunsets right before a thunderstorm. Out of the sibsets my favorite is definitely [name_f]Perla[/name_f] & [name_f]Frida[/name_f], they go together perfectly, but I also really like [name_f]Perla[/name_f] & [name_f]Allegra[/name_f]. Some random suggestions~

[name_f]Perla[/name_f] & Gracia/Grazia
[name_f]Perla[/name_f] & [name_f]Delfina[/name_f]
[name_f]Perla[/name_f] & [name_f]Dora[/name_f] (or even Dorotea)
[name_f]Perla[/name_f] & [name_f]Marta[/name_f]
[name_f]Perla[/name_f] & [name_f]Palmira[/name_f] (a tad matchy but I think it’s cute)
[name_f]Perla[/name_f] & [name_f]Giulietta[/name_f]
[name_f]Perla[/name_f] & [name_f]Imelda[/name_f]
[name_f]Perla[/name_f] & [name_f]Selda[/name_f]
[name_f]Perla[/name_f] & Silvia/Silviana/Silvera/Silvestra

For me [name_f]Perla[/name_f] feels vintage (because of Pearl), sweet but a bit fiery too. I’ve never known a just [name_f]Perla[/name_f], but I’ve met a Perlanish (I believe she was Indian?) who went by [name_f]Perla[/name_f] and also Peróla is taking off quite a lot in [name_u]Brazil[/name_u] over the past few years (the Portuguese counterpart to the Spanish/Italian Perla).

I do prefer just [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] myself, but I do find [name_f]Perla[/name_f] to be likable and unexpected! I feel like most Americans would say purr lah but I say the E somewhere between eh and ay that seems so common in the European e sound. I would use [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] or [name_f]Perola[/name_f] myself (I have strong connections to Brazil!), but I would love to meet a little Perla… I loved meeting the Perlanish that went by [name_f]Perla[/name_f]!

I liked [name_f]Perla[/name_f] and [name_f]Greta[/name_f] and [name_f]Perla[/name_f] and [name_f]Serena[/name_f] from your list… I honestly love [name_f]Perla[/name_f] and [name_f]Gisella[/name_f] too.

I’m from Aus, and [name_f]Perla[/name_f] wouldn’t go down well here!! If something’s impressive, it’s “pearler”. E.g. “what a pearler day!” (And of course with the Aussie accent you pronounce the ‘er’ as ‘a’ so [name_f]Perla[/name_f] and pearler sound identical.)

I can definitely see the appeal and the vintage vibe though

It would be very rare in the US, but the sound is perhaps a bit dated to me. Similar to [name_f]Paula[/name_f] or [name_f]Darla[/name_f]. That said, I don’t mind it and think it would be pretty neat to meet a little [name_f]Perla[/name_f]!

Goodness I think it’s beautiful. I would expect a [name_f]Perla[/name_f] to be beautiful herself, it’s such a soft and pretty name, sweet on a little girl but elegant on a grown up. For aesthetics I’m seeing white fur hats and ice skates in the snow, ballet slippers and old keys, a dressing table with glass pots and vials and rose petals, bunches of peonies in the spring - just everything feminine and vintage.

Actually maybe my imagery is influenced by the fact [name_f]Perla[/name_f] sounds like a lost Fossil sister from Ballet Shoes (the others are [name_f]Pauline[/name_f], [name_f]Petrova[/name_f] and Posy)!

Very nice, it does make me think of La [name_f]Perla[/name_f] lingerie but I love the soft vintage vibe, it makes me think of fuzzy mohair or cashmere twinsets in soft colours like champagne, oyster and powder blue, worn with pearls, of course, lockets, apricot roses in cut glass vases and beautiful notebooks / pens. I really like almost all of your sibset combos with the exception of [name_f]Serena[/name_f] (I think it goes very well with the vibe, I just don’t like the name), [name_f]Menta[/name_f] (too wordy for me) and [name_f]Frida[/name_f], which I like and fits vibe-wise but I don’t think the harder sounds go. [name_f]Perla[/name_f] and Azelma / [name_f]Allegra[/name_f] are great, I also think [name_f]Perla[/name_f] and [name_f]Alessandra[/name_f] would be good.

I would prn. Pearl-a.

I love it! [name_f]Perla[/name_f] is beautiful and unexpected. [name_f]My[/name_f] favourite for siblings are [name_f]Allegra[/name_f] and [name_f]Serena[/name_f].

I kinda like it. It’s a coffee brand here though so that’s all I could associate it with xD
Here we say: Pair-la

I think [name_f]Perla[/name_f] and [name_f]Allegra[/name_f] would be very cute together.

[name_f]Perla[/name_f] is such a sweet name! It’s beautiful. It sounds romantic and peaceful. In my mind, [name_f]Perla[/name_f] would be a calm and discreet girl/woman who is very gentle, kind, sophisticated and intelligent. She loves to read and/or write. Perhaps she would live in the countryside.

From your list, I really like [name_f]Bluma[/name_f], [name_f]Allegra[/name_f] and [name_f]Serena[/name_f] for a hypothetical sister. I would suggest [name_f]Brisa[/name_f] (not an Italian word but I think it works), [name_f]Aria[/name_f], [name_m]Fiore[/name_m] (Flora would be perfect too!), [name_f]Dalia[/name_f], [name_f]Alba[/name_f], [name_f]Fiamma[/name_f], [name_f]Neve[/name_f], [name_f]Grazia[/name_f], [name_f]Idalia[/name_f], [name_f]Rosa[/name_f], Ninfa, [name_f]Agata[/name_f], [name_f]Gioia[/name_f], [name_f]Vita[/name_f], Miele, [name_f]Regina[/name_f], [name_f]Olimpia[/name_f], [name_f]Aura[/name_f], [name_f]Ilaria[/name_f], [name_f]Lumia[/name_f], [name_f]Mimosa[/name_f] and [name_f]Gloria[/name_f].

I think [name_f]Perla[/name_f] is beautiful! I would pronounce it like [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] with an -a at the end, and it does give vintage vibes! Elegant, sophisticated, pretty, dainty, romantic, and strong. I picture pearl necklaces, wispy clouds, opera music, flutes, silver rings, and cream cake!
Both in [name_f]Canada[/name_f] and Spain I think she would be perceived as a real unique gem of a name!
As for your sib sets…( I’m biased because [name_f]Allegra[/name_f] is one of my top girls names, but I’ll try and rank more on what goes best with Perla,) I like ( from favourite to least favourite):

  1. [name_f]Perla[/name_f] and [name_f]Bluma[/name_f]
  2. [name_f]Perla[/name_f] and [name_f]Greta[/name_f]
  3. [name_f]Perla[/name_f] and [name_f]Allegra[/name_f]
  4. [name_f]Perla[/name_f] and [name_f]Menta[/name_f]
  5. [name_f]Perla[/name_f] and [name_f]Frida[/name_f]
  6. [name_f]Perla[/name_f] and [name_f]Olga[/name_f]
  7. [name_f]Perla[/name_f] and [name_f]Serena[/name_f]
  8. [name_f]Perla[/name_f] and [name_f]Marlene[/name_f]
  9. [name_f]Perla[/name_f] and [name_f]Adela[/name_f]
  10. [name_f]Perla[/name_f] and Azelma
