Perry for a girl?

What do you think about [name_u]Perry[/name_u] as a girl’s name? It is a family name and I think it would be a nice way to honor my side of the family. I would pair it with a very feminine middle name. I am not a fan of most traditionally male names on girls, although I can’t say I don’t like it out of principal. [name_u]Ashley[/name_u] used to be a male name after all!

So do you think this would work on a girl? What middle names would you use?

I have a friend whose daughter is named [name_u]Perry[/name_u]. In all honestly, I don’t like it at all. I don’t find it feminine or appealing in any way.

[name_u]Perry[/name_u] sounds like an old man, [name_f]IMO[/name_f].

I don’t think feminine middle names make any difference to a masculine first. The middle hardly ever gets used, anyway.

It is a great name for a girl!

@jeska- thank you for your feedback! I guess it helps that my associations with [name_u]Perry[/name_u] all have to do with my warm and bubbly side of the family. I would never name a little girl [name_u]Percy[/name_u], but for some reason [name_u]Perry[/name_u] doesn’t seem any less feminine than [name_f]Carrie[/name_f] to me. Really appreciate the feedback and that’s a good point about middles.

@rollo- thank you! I love [name_u]Perry[/name_u] [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f]

I’m open to more input

I don’t think [name_u]Perry[/name_u] works as a first name for a girl, but could be a masculine nickname option for a tomboyish girl. [name_f]Persephone[/name_f], [name_f]Perrine[/name_f], [name_f]Perla[/name_f], [name_f]Peridot[/name_f], even something like [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] nn [name_u]Perry[/name_u] would be sweet.

a male family name.

I mean no offense when I say that I am sick of parents giving females male names.

Apparently no male name is off limits. To me, it feels disrespectful and lacking in knowledge.

I think its really cute actually. And the fact that its a family name just makes it better. I’m from a region where family names are considered gender neutral, so I wouldn’t worry about it at all. If you don’t usually like male names on girls, the PP’s suggestion of using it as a nickname is really cute.

I’d stick it in the middle or opt for [name_u]Peri[/name_u] (there’s an actress by the name, and it looks more feminine).

While [name_u]Perry[/name_u] is a family name, I don’t care for it on a girl. I think of my younger brother (whose middle name is [name_u]Perry[/name_u]) as well as my older relatives (whose surname is [name_u]Perry[/name_u]).
[name_u]Perry[/name_u] [name_f]Alessandra[/name_f]
[name_u]Perry[/name_u] [name_u]Meredith[/name_u]
[name_u]Perry[/name_u] [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]

My younger sister is Perri and she loves her name. I think the Perry spelling is just fine but an -i or -ie ending does look more feminine.

I’ve never met a male under 40 named Perry, just saying.

For mns:
Perry Noelle
Perry Isabelle
Perry Abigail
Perry Claire

Oh! Oh!! I think [name_u]Perry[/name_u] is very sweet, but don’t spell is [name_u]Peri[/name_u]! In Health care ‘peri care’ is how we reference cleaning the genital area of our patients.

[name_u]Perry[/name_u] doesn’t feel feminine to me. It might work as a nickname for something (I like the suggestions mentioned by bonfireazalea) but I don’t think it works as a given name. I also think [name_u]Peri[/name_u] would be a better spelling.

I prefer the [name_f]Perrie[/name_f] spelling like [name_f]Perrie[/name_f] Edwards of [name_m]Little[/name_m] Mix. Then I think [name_u]Peri[/name_u] or [name_f]Perri[/name_f] are my next favourites. [name_u]Perry[/name_u] is too platypus

I second the comment about peri care. [name_f]Perri[/name_f] would be fine, but don’t use [name_u]Peri[/name_u]

I think [name_u]Perry[/name_u] works fine for a girl - as a nickname. I’m not a fan of it as a full name for a girl, or really for a boy either. It just feels too nicknamey to me.
