So I really like the name [name_f]Persephone[/name_f] but I don’t like [name_u]Percy[/name_u] and my oldest daughter goes by Sephi in some social groups.I also don’t like [name_u]Perry[/name_u] and [name_u]Pepper[/name_u] doesn’t work because of [name_f]Peppa[/name_f] Pig.
The mythological figure went by the alternative name [name_f]Cora[/name_f] which is gorgeous but it seems like a stretch to convince people.
[name_f]Cora[/name_f] as a nickname for [name_f]Persephone[/name_f]
- [name_u]Love[/name_u] it
- People will get used to it
- It‘ll never work
- I have a wonderful idea for an alternative nickname which I’ll tell you about below
I love the idea, but nobody will get it. I have [name_f]Peach[/name_f] down as a possible [name_f]Persephone[/name_f] nickname!
edit: she could also use [name_f]Posy[/name_f]/Posie!

I really don’t think this one will catch on, I’m sorry
But I’ve always loved the idea of a little [name_f]Persephone[/name_f] nicknamed [name_u]Pip[/name_u], [name_f]Pippa[/name_f] or [name_u]Pippin[/name_u]!
ETA: or [name_u]Pepper[/name_u]!

My fav with [name_f]Persephone[/name_f] is [name_f]Effie[/name_f] but I assume that is also off the table based on Sephi.
I was going to say [name_u]Pip[/name_u]/Pippin but @katinka beat me to it.
I would say that as far as other options go, even something like [name_f]Sera[/name_f] or [name_f]Honey[/name_f] would be much more intuitive than [name_f]Cora[/name_f]. I am all for creative nicknames but [name_f]Cora[/name_f] is just so far from anything I see associated up front that it just feels like a “Why name her [name_f]Persephone[/name_f] at all?” choice.

People will get used to it I’d guess but it doesn’t make any sense from how [name_f]Persephone[/name_f] sounds… What about…
Honey?
[name_f]Peony[/name_f]?
[name_f]Kitty[/name_f]? (from the Purrr part lol)

Maybe also [name_f]Poppy[/name_f]?

I think it’s extremely unconventional but I know so many teens who looked into Greek mythology thoroughly enough that they would get it right away! I don’t know whether the upcoming generation will care as much about mythology but I think it could work.
Maybe [name_f]Ursa[/name_f] is a stretch that could sort of work, even though it doesn’t have the same connection to the mythological figure?

@midwinter [name_f]My[/name_f] oldest (14) got it, and loves it, but she goes to a school with compulsory Latin and Ancient Greek

Oh I like [name_f]Kitty[/name_f]. Makes me think of [name_f]Anna[/name_f] Karenina

I love the idea although it’s quite a stretch. I think it works well as a fun family nickname. However, will be hard to convince others to use it. It’s not the kind of nickname you use naturally. Maybe it works after you’ve explained were it comes from.

To me it seems like too much of a stretch. I think it’s the type of nickname that only family members would use. I can’t see unrelated people getting it.
I thought of Perrine but perhaps that’s also a bit of a stretch.

Pepper is cute, but my kids just started quoting [name_f]Peppa[/name_f] Pig at me when I tried it out on them and my middle child hates people calling her [name_f]Dora[/name_f] because of [name_f]Dora[/name_f] the [name_u]Explorer[/name_u]. I feel like I’d be recreating the problem!

This is entirely off topic but…that sounds amazing

I think people will get used to it. It’s definitely creative though, and honestly I would used [name_f]Cora[/name_f] on its own if you plan on calling her that.
I also love the suggestions of [name_f]Peach[/name_f] and [name_f]Kitty[/name_f].
Some nns

How about Erry, [name_f]Fifi[/name_f], [name_f]Sera[/name_f] or Ersi?

I understand where you’re coming from but doesn’t make sense as a nickname in my mind. Like, yes [name_f]Persephone[/name_f] went by [name_f]Cora[/name_f] but they’re different names and many people go by different names
Sorry! I second [name_f]Persephone[/name_f] nn [name_f]Effie[/name_f].

It just won’t catch on, you’d have to explain it to literally every person you met. If you like the name [name_f]Cora[/name_f], just use [name_f]Cora[/name_f]. [name_f]Persephone[/name_f] has lots of natural nicknames, [name_u]Percy[/name_u], [name_f]Posy[/name_f], Seffie, [name_f]Effie[/name_f].

I don’t think it will catch on and it feels a bit redundant to have a name like [name_f]Persephone[/name_f] and then go by the completely different and increasingly popular [name_f]Cora[/name_f] - sorry
Persephone could have the nn [name_u]Poe[/name_u]

Means Bum in [name_m]Germany[/name_m]. Same reason [name_f]Posey[/name_f] doesn’t work because it sounds too much like the word for bum,
I don’t want [name_f]Cora[/name_f], I want [name_f]Persephone[/name_f] but you can’t call a baby by a four syllable name all the time that feels unnatural. Seffi is used by my older daughter and [name_f]Effie[/name_f] sounds like the word little kids use to avoid cursing here.
Cora is literally the only option I can think of that works
It’s just really depressing as there seems to be some reason people don’t approve of each name where there is any crossover between mine and my husband’s taste
