Persephone vs Sunny

Ok. I am due in two weeks, and we still have not chosen a name for this child.

My husbands preference is [name_u]Sunny[/name_u], and mine [name_f]Persephone[/name_f], though he is giving me the ultimate say. I do like both, though [name_f]Persephone[/name_f] is a GP of mine and since this is my last baby, I really want to pull the trigger, so to speak. I love all the nn options and I just love the Greek mythology behind it.

Anyway, the only thing holding me back is that dh didn’t actually know the story and I had to teach him how to pronounce it. That’s fine, it’s not hard to do, but he heard PerSTEPHANIE the first time I said it. :joy: I truly thought that most everybody had been taught Greek mythology for some reason, and I would wish that even if a chunk of the general population didn’t know about it that at least dh would since he is her father. :stuck_out_tongue:

That doesn’t completely put me off though and these are what we’ve narrowed it down to, but another top contender was [name_u]Sage[/name_u]. He likes that one a lot and so did I, but the longer I hear it, the more bored I get with it and just don’t think it’s feminine sounding enough for me. Probably because I originally had picked that one as a boy option.

I also liked [name_f]Clover[/name_f], [name_f]Cleo[/name_f], [name_f]Zelda[/name_f] and [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f], but dh either made fun of them, or refused to acknowledge them. Lol
So those are pretty much out, unless I really want to push them. I’d rather not force a name he finds them laughable.

I far, far prefer [name_u]Sunny[/name_u]. I don’t see the beauty of [name_f]Persephone[/name_f]. [name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] nn [name_u]Sunny[/name_u]?

This is exactly what I was going to suggest

Or, maybe ~
Calliope (Callie)
Seraphina (Sera, or maybe even Sunny!)
Scarlet (Carley)
Saskia (Sassy)
Ariadne (Ari)
Artemis (Ari)

I think having a longer name with a cute nickname might be a great solution for your family. Good luck!

I prefer [name_f]Persephone[/name_f]. It’s a very bold choice but beautiful nonetheless.

Call me crazy, but I think [name_u]Sunny[/name_u] doesn’t sound like much of a stretch as a nickname for [name_f]Persephone[/name_f]. All the right sounds are there, and to remedy those that feel [name_f]Persephone[/name_f] is too dark, [name_u]Sunny[/name_u] as a nickname would clear that right up. I think [name_f]Persephone[/name_f] is very glamorous and pretty, and I think a touch of mystery is not a bad thing in a name.

My vote goes to [name_f]Persephone[/name_f] “[name_u]Sunny[/name_u]” to give the win to both you and your husband.

What about [name_f]Summer[/name_f]?

I like [name_f]Persephone[/name_f], but if your unsure, what about as a middle?

I agree with @larkub101: Persephone nn Sunny is a bit of a stretch, but it works.
Persephone Sage?
Or you could reinforce the nn with a more clearly related middle: Persephone Susannah?

Sunniva might be another option. She’s not mythical, but she is a legendary mediaeval saint.

Apolline/ Apollonia (another saint, though the name itself is related to Greek mythology, like Persephone) might be another way to Sunny, though the connection’s not as obvious as it is with Sunniva.

Sunniva, Apolline and Apollonia might be a bit much with Persephone but if you decide not to use Persephone they might be ways to keep some of that unusual mythological/legendary vibe while keeping Sunny.

I prefer [name_f]Persephone[/name_f] as well.

I actually wanted to suggest this as well, but not too sure. [name_f]Glad[/name_f] to hear I am not the only one who think of [name_f]Persephone[/name_f] nn [name_u]Sunny[/name_u].

I prefer [name_f]Persephone[/name_f].

I really like both! [name_f]Persephone[/name_f] has been a long time favourite of mine, but I still adore [name_u]Sunny[/name_u], although it’s unfortunately unusable for me. I think for this one though, my vote goes to [name_u]Sunny[/name_u]. It’s a beautiful, happy name, and I think there will be more pronunciation problems with [name_f]Persephone[/name_f].

I love [name_f]Persephone[/name_f]! You could always have [name_u]Sunny[/name_u] as a nickname to [name_f]Persephone[/name_f]. It’s a huge stretch, but she could be a very happy, bright, sunny baby and it would work fine. Congratulations & best wishes!

I’m inclined to say you shouldn’t use it. [name_f]Persephone[/name_f] is one of those choices both of you have to own for it to work. If your favorite was [name_u]Avery[/name_u] I would completely understand but if he’s not a huge fan I wouldn’t. I agree with [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] nickname [name_u]Sunny[/name_u]. Also [name_f]Sunniva[/name_f] nickname [name_u]Sunny[/name_u]. Would [name_u]Percy[/name_u] also work for you?

[name_f]Persephone[/name_f] is one of my favourite names! I much prefer it to [name_u]Sunny[/name_u]. I think [name_u]Sunny[/name_u] would be better as a nickname. Perhaps for [name_f]Susannah[/name_f]? Though there are many nicknames you could pair with [name_f]Persephone[/name_f] such as Persy or [name_f]Effy[/name_f] which may be a winner for both you and your hubby.

I love both, but [name_f]Persephone[/name_f] is gorgeous. [name_m]Rich[/name_m], dark, elegant, mysterious and absolutely beautiful. I think she’d have to be my pick.

I think [name_u]Sunny[/name_u] as a nn for [name_f]Persephone[/name_f] really works- the best of both worlds!! Plus using your other top contender [name_u]Sage[/name_u] in the middle spot is a beaitiful combo- [name_f]Persephone[/name_f] [name_u]Sage[/name_u], nn [name_u]Sunny[/name_u] would definitely be my choice!!!

Like some of the previous posters suggested I think [name_f]Persephone[/name_f] nn [name_u]Sunny[/name_u] could definitely make sense! And even if it’s too much of a stretch for you, I think [name_u]Sunny[/name_u] would be a good nickname for any happy, bright and smiley child regardless of their full name.

I love the suggestion of [name_f]Apollonia[/name_f] nn [name_u]Sunny[/name_u]!

As mentioned before, why not [name_f]Persephone[/name_f] nn [name_u]Sunny[/name_u]?
But I understand the dilemma; I have a list of names (We’re not yet pregnant, but I’ve got my names ready! ) and my husband will like only ONE! Hehe. Good luck to you and congratulations!

I much prefer [name_f]Persephone[/name_f] but, like others have suggested, why not [name_f]Persephone[/name_f] nn [name_u]Sunny[/name_u]?
