Peter Quinn

My husband and I were discussing names last night, playing around with combos, when he mentioned [name]Peter[/name] [name]Quinn[/name]. We both really liked it instantly. I think it goes very well with our boys’ names and is exactly what we look for in a name - classic, dignified, slightly underused, a little preppy. We would call him [name]Peter[/name] most of the time, but use [name]Piers[/name] as an occasional nickname/pet name. Much like what we do with [name]Philip[/name] and [name]Pip[/name].

So what do you think of [name]Peter[/name] [name]Quinn[/name], nn [name]Piers[/name]?

Does it go well with [name]Theodore[/name] [name]Milo[/name] “[name]Teddy[/name]”, and [name]Philip[/name] [name]Rory[/name] “[name]Pip[/name]”?

Our other top choice at the moment (it changes daily, ha!) is [name]William[/name] [name]Kit[/name] “[name]Billy[/name]”. Is this a better fit?

Thanks!

i like it, i think it works really nicely with your other kids’ names. i like [name]William[/name] a lot, but i’m not big on [name]Kit[/name] as a stand-alone name (rather than as a nn), and [name]Peter[/name] [name]Quinn[/name] sounds better than [name]William[/name] [name]Quinn[/name].

someone is going to say that [name]Pip[/name] and [name]Piers[/name] are kind of matchy, but i don’t find it to be a problem, especially if you call him by his full name more of the time.

I love [name]Peter[/name] [name]Quinn[/name]! I think it is a very classic name that works well with your other children’s names.

[name]Love[/name] [name]Peter[/name] [name]Quinn[/name]!! Hate nickname [name]Piers[/name]!!! Why would you need a nickname?

I agree with pp- love the the name [name]Peter[/name] [name]Quinn[/name] and despise [name]Piers[/name]. What about [name]Pete[/name] for a nn? Or [name]Petey[/name]?

I don’t care about middle names a whole lot (considering how little use they get) and I way prefer [name]William[/name] to [name]Peter[/name]. [name]Peter[/name] is not old enough to be back again, [name]IMO[/name].

I also really dislike the nn name [name]Piers[/name] - there’s something really pretentious about it, to my ears. If you got with [name]Peter[/name], I like nn [name]Pete[/name] much better.

Agree with most of the posters. Like [name]Peter[/name] [name]Quinn[/name] but not the nn [name]Piers[/name].

Hate? Despise? I think that’s a little harsh. We’re talking about an occasional nickname/pet-name, after all. Not the name he’d answer to or how we’d introduce him. I have to say I’m a little surprised about these responses. I posted about [name]Piers[/name] as a nickname/pet name for [name]Peter[/name] in the past and got rave reviews. I also don’t really understand how it’s pretentious. Like I said, we wouldn’t introduce him as [name]Piers[/name] (and many would argue that [name]Teddy[/name] and [name]Pip[/name] are pretentious, so maybe that’s just our style. Ha.). I also don’t understand why people always ask “why would you need a nickname?!?” We don’t need a nickname -we want one. And the last time I checked, the parents are allowed to use a nickname if they want to. We really dislike [name]Pete[/name] and, contrary to what many people say, “politely correcting” someone whenever they shorten the name doesn’t actually work. Having an alternative, like [name]Piers[/name], will help us avoid [name]Pete[/name] if it ever rears its ugly head. This was exactly what we did with [name]Philip[/name]’s name. We wanted to avoid [name]Phil[/name], so we introduced [name]Pip[/name].

@lorijohnson - Thank you for the suggestions! I love [name]Jem[/name] for [name]James[/name] and [name]Maxwell[/name] nn [name]Max[/name]. I understand what you mean about [name]Billy[/name]. I’ve always loved [name]William[/name], though, and I think I’m trying to find a way to use it without being overwhelmed by the popularity. [name]Wills[/name] is my favorite nickname, but I fear it wouldn’t stand out. Thanks again!

I’m so glad to see someone considering [name]Peter[/name].

[name]Peter[/name] [name]Quinn[/name] is quite nice, but considering your boys’ names I think [name]William[/name] [name]Kit[/name] (even [name]William[/name] [name]Quinn[/name]) is the better fit. I agree that [name]Billy[/name] doesn’t fit your target image. [name]Wim[/name] could be a nickname for [name]William[/name]. If you want to get creative, you could do [name]Wit[/name] for [name]William[/name] [name]Kit[/name] or [name]Winn[/name] for [name]William[/name] [name]Quinn[/name].
