Peter

What are your thoughts on this underused-classic name??

[name_m]Peter[/name_m] is my brother’s name, so I’m always championing it on here. It’s a beautiful, simple, and sweet name with a lot of history to it. It’s playful, but can be taken seriously.

Also, [name_m]Peter[/name_m] doesn’t always shorten to [name_m]Pete[/name_m] or [name_m]Petey[/name_m]–it depends on the person.

I like the meaning–the rock. It’s a nice antidote to trendy [name_u]Finley[/name_u]–meaning ‘swampy meadow’. I just don’t get why parents do that to their kids.

Oh [name_m]Peter[/name_m] is definitely not underused around where I am! My cousin’s name is [name_m]Peter[/name_m], my ex boyfriend is [name_m]Peter[/name_m], my aunty’s husband’s name is [name_m]Peter[/name_m], and her ex husband’s name is [name_m]Peter[/name_m]. Oh, and my husband’s cousin is [name_m]Peter[/name_m]… Too many Peters!!!

Plus I went to school with so many, I know more Peters than I do [name_m]Matthews[/name_m], Christophers, [name_u]James[/name_u] etc. So it’s hard for me to see it as a nice name, it’s like every 3rd guy here is [name_m]Peter[/name_m].

There’s something hard to resist about a young boy named [name_m]Peter[/name_m] {called by his full name}.

[name_m]Peter[/name_m] is dignified yet down-to-earth.

To me, he’s all boy, capable of just the right amount of good-old-fashioned mischief :).

I like [name_m]Peter[/name_m].

I like [name_m]Peter[/name_m]. I only know one.

I’ve always liked [name_m]Peter[/name_m], it’s a very sweet name.

I have only ever know 2 Peters. One is an adult and one a little boy. [name_m]Peter[/name_m] makes me think of Spiderman first and then the [name_m]Peter[/name_m] [name_u]Piper[/name_u] picked a peck of pickled peppers rhyme second.

I love [name_m]Peter[/name_m]! There are so many great guys with that name. It IS sweet and dignified at the same time.

We have our own darling and mischievous five-year-old [name_m]Peter[/name_m]! It was the perfect timeless, yet not overly popular, name with such wonderful associations as [name_m]Peter[/name_m] [name_m]Pan[/name_m], [name_m]Peter[/name_m] [name_u]Parker[/name_u] (Spider-[name_m]Man[/name_m]), [name_m]Peter[/name_m] Rabbit, [name_m]Peter[/name_m] Cottontail and the list goes on!

[name_f]Lovely[/name_f] and tragically underused! And there are so many associations with it (as previous posters have probably said): [name_m]Lord[/name_m] [name_m]Peter[/name_m] Wimsey, [name_m]Peter[/name_m] Pevensie from the [name_f]Narnia[/name_f] series, all the St. Peters, [name_m]Peter[/name_m] Frampton (I can’t believe I just put that in!)…

I am shocked that others are calling it underused. I know a million I swear where I live it’s as popular as [name_u]Michael[/name_u].

I am meh on it, and again just think of it as an overly common name like [name_m]John[/name_m], [name_u]Michael[/name_u], [name_m]Steve[/name_m], [name_m]Dave[/name_m], etc.
