[name_m]How[/name_m] do you feel about [name_m]Philip[/name_m] as a first name? Is it too similar to be used with [name_m]Felix[/name_m] in a sibset? Middle name suggestions? Is [name_u]Phil[/name_u] unavoidable?
I really really dislike [name_m]Philip[/name_m], though I’m not really very sure why. It seems a bit middle aged, and I do think [name_u]Phil[/name_u] is inevitable.
I like [name_m]Philip[/name_m]. You could use [name_m]Pip[/name_m] or [name_u]Flip[/name_u] when he is little, but probably not for a teenager or adult. My cousin [name_m]Philip[/name_m] (40s) is usually [name_m]Philip[/name_m], but I do hear [name_u]Phil[/name_u] sometimes since people just like to shorten things.
[name_m]Philip[/name_m] is very handsome. I don’t like [name_u]Phil[/name_u] but [name_m]Pip[/name_m] is very cute
I love [name_m]Philip[/name_m]! I just find it to be really classic, strong and handsome. I think [name_u]Phil[/name_u] is avoidable, you just have to nicely correct people if they try to use it. I’m not a big fan of any of the [name_m]Philip[/name_m] nicknames save for [name_u]Philly[/name_u]. For some reason, I just find [name_u]Philly[/name_u] to be adorable.
That being said, I do think it’s too close to [name_m]Felix[/name_m] to use for brothers. Saying them aloud together sounds a little tongue-twistery.
[name_m]Philip[/name_m] is a classic, handsome, steady name. It’s not particularly exciting but it’s pretty inoffensive and would serve any man well. It’s the kind of name I don’t tend to associate with a particular personality, I could see it on anyone.
I think [name_u]Phil[/name_u] is completely avoidable. I’ve known a fair few [name_m]Philips[/name_m] and only ones in their 40s/50s or older have used [name_u]Phil[/name_u]. It doesn’t seem to be common for younger generations.
I don’t think it’s too similar to [name_m]Felix[/name_m], they have the same beginning sound but the rest of the name is different.
I love [name_m]Philip[/name_m]. We almost used it for our son. [name_u]Phil[/name_u] is avoidable, but I also don’t think it’s that bad as a nickname. Not as dashing as the full [name_m]Philip[/name_m], but more wearable than [name_m]Pip[/name_m] or [name_u]Flip[/name_u] in my opinion.
Thanks for your opinions so far, Berries!
I don’t mind [name_u]Phil[/name_u] so much, but it’s not my favorite nickname, if that makes sense.
I quite like [name_m]Philip[/name_m], and [name_m]Pip[/name_m] is just adorable!
It’s definitely not too similar to [name_m]Felix[/name_m], but it does feel rather less on trend right now. [name_m]How[/name_m] do you feel about [name_m]Pippin[/name_m] or [name_m]Pepin[/name_m]? I realise they’re not for everyone!
@katinka: I like [name_m]Pippin[/name_m], but it feels more like nickname material to me. It could definitely work as a pet form for [name_m]Philip[/name_m] if I used it.
I like [name_m]Philip[/name_m], could call him Lip
I thought of using it but didn’t want to have two f sounds while my oldest doesnt ( they would be half siblings so I don’t want him to feel left out)
