I’ve been thinking about this name recently. I used to think it wasnt as cozy and familiar as I wanted. But recently it’s grown on me. I tend to like boys names staying with the ‘f’ sound like [name_m]Foster[/name_m] and [name_m]Felix[/name_m] but I also like the ‘o’ ending, and that its not nearly as popular as names like [name_u]Milo[/name_u] but it still sounds familiar.
Does it work with sisters named H0liday, Mapl3 W1nry & Ap0lline?
What middles would you pair with it?
Does it have any negative associations?
What would you name a brother to [name_m]Philo[/name_m]?
I’m also a big fan of F names, I’m into it! I think it works with those sisters for sure.
It feels like a fresher [name_m]Phineas[/name_m] and makes me think of philosophy. I’d pair it with something traditional
like [name_m]Philo[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u] or that repeats the ‘o’ like [name_m]Philo[/name_m] [name_u]Corbin[/name_u].
@Bohemeregina has a [name_m]Philo[/name_m]! I thought of them as soon as I saw this.
I think your sister names would work well with [name_m]Philo[/name_m]. [name_m]Philo[/name_m] fits into several camps so would go with a range of different sibling names imo.
Here’s some (all over the place) suggestions!
[name_u]Iggy[/name_u], [name_u]Rudy[/name_u], [name_u]Beau[/name_u], [name_m]Chester[/name_m], [name_u]Mackay[/name_u], [name_u]Eden[/name_u], [name_m]Randall[/name_m], [name_u]Vyvyan[/name_u], [name_m]Laertes[/name_m], [name_u]Alexis[/name_u], [name_m]Klaus[/name_m], [name_u]Julian[/name_u]
Sibsets:
[name_m]Philo[/name_m], H0liday, [name_u]Rudy[/name_u], [name_u]Beau[/name_u] and Mapl3
[name_m]Philo[/name_m], [name_u]Vyvyan[/name_u] and [name_m]Laertes[/name_m]
[name_m]Philo[/name_m], [name_u]Alexis[/name_u], [name_u]Julian[/name_u] and Ap0lline
I’m not a fan. I think of unpleasant words ending in -phile or filo dough as someone said.
That said I think it does work with the other siblings you mentioned! I’d expect a similarly out there but old-fashioned-feeling name for a brother. Something like [name_u]Willoughby[/name_u] or [name_m]Rufus[/name_m].
[name_f]My[/name_f] 6 year old is named [name_m]Philo[/name_m] [name_u]Revere[/name_u]. We pronounce it like [name_u]Milo[/name_u]. I may be biased but I vote yes.
Very cool name. Fits beautifully with the sister names.
In my region (where I’m from), we pronounce this Fee-low, so I might be a little biased in preferring this pronunciation. But other parts of the county pronounce it Fie-lo (rhymes with Milo). Both are cool.
[name_m]Philo[/name_m] is really fun! Reminds me of [name_f]Philou[/name_f] (g) and Timo/Thilo (tee-moh/tee-loh) that I’ve been crushing on for a while now. [name_m]Philo[/name_m] does feel more namey than Hol!day and M@ple, but with Apoll!ne, I can see it!
It does sound like phyllo dough, but it’s namey enough that I don’t think that’d bother me too much. I like the idea of something European/popular [name_u]French[/name_u] with it as a brother, like [name_u]Gabriel[/name_u], [name_m]Timeo[/name_m], [name_m]Raphael[/name_m], [name_u]Jules[/name_u], [name_u]Arthur[/name_u], [name_m]Florin[/name_m], Sasha/Sacha, [name_u]Leon[/name_u], [name_u]Noah[/name_u], [name_m]Adam[/name_m], Fleury, [name_m]Hugo[/name_m], etc.
I’m not sure about middles; I’m in love with [name_f]Philomena[/name_f] [name_u]Esme[/name_u] “Philou” or [name_u]Esme[/name_u] [name_f]Philou[/name_f] lately, so I’m tempted to go like [name_m]Philo[/name_m] Esaias/Isaiah, [name_m]Philo[/name_m] Ezekiel/Esekiel, or especially [name_m]Philo[/name_m] [name_u]Estlin[/name_u]! I think [name_u]Estlin[/name_u] is fabulous and so underused; it was e.e. cummings’ second “E” - such a fun literary tie and such a cool sound I think.
If not an “es” name, I think these combos would be nice too:
Great name, with a very cool sound!
There’s a character called [name_m]Philo[/name_m] (pronounced to rhyme with Milo) in the show Carnival [name_f]Row[/name_f], but it’s a short form of his surname (Philostrate).
