We’re about a month away from welcoming twin girls. We know definitely that one of our little ladies will be [name]Imogen[/name]. (I know it’s not a universally popular choice, at least here in the US, but we are enchanted by the meaning of the name, by the character in [name]Cymbeline[/name] – all our kids will have Shakespearean names, because their mom is a big old nerd – and the sound. And sometimes a name just feels right and sticks, and this one has for us.)
But [name]Imogen[/name]'s sister is lingering in name limbo. Originally she was going to be [name]Rosalind[/name], then [name]Phoebe[/name]. [name]Beatrice[/name] was always one of my top picks for her as well, but I couldn’t get my husband on board. Now, suddenly, out of nowhere, he’s okay with it…and I’m…not so sure.
I love the meaning, I adore the role of [name]Beatrice[/name] in “Much [name]Ado[/name],” I’m just not sure if I like the sound of the name. (Whereas [name]Phoebe[/name] is a minor character in “As You Like It,” but I love the way that name sounds – and she’s also the goddess of the moon, the grandmother of [name]Phoebus[/name] [name]Apollo[/name] – which is pretty cool too, no?)
Anyway – What do you all think?
[name]Henry[/name], [name]Imogen[/name] and [name]Phoebe[/name]?
or
[name]Henry[/name], [name]Imogen[/name] and [name]Beatrice[/name]?
I think both names would be fine with [name]Henry[/name] and [name]Imogen[/name] but I think I’m going to choose [name]Beatrice[/name]. [name]Henry[/name] and [name]Phoebe[/name] end in the same sound so it tips my view in favour of [name]Beatrice[/name]. If you don’t mind the similar sounds, I do think that spunky [name]Phoebe[/name] “fits” a little better with [name]Imogen[/name] while the more serious [name]Beatrice[/name] is a good “match” with [name]Henry[/name]. Are you more concerned with the twin names or the sibset as a whole?
FYI - I love [name]Rosalind[/name] too so it’s a tough choice! Maybe you should bring all of the names to the hospital with you and decide after meeting the little ladies.
ooo I really like [name]Rosalind[/name], [name]Phoebe[/name] & [name]Beatrice[/name]! They are all such beautiful names & I like that you’re not choosing super matchy names for your twins.
[name]Phoebe[/name] goes very nicely with [name]Imogen[/name] -both being Greek names. However, I see [name]Phoebe[/name] as being a very cute name. It doesn’t seem very adult to me, especially because of [name]Phoebe[/name] Buffay in “Friends”. I want to love this name, but I just can’t see using it, personally.
So… my pick would be [name]Beatrice[/name], same as [name]Mischa[/name]. It has a great meaning, goes well with the sibset as well as working with [name]Imogen[/name].
[name]Do[/name] you have middle names picked out? That might make a difference too.
I really love the quirkiness that [name]Phoebe[/name] and [name]Imogen[/name] have together.
Would you consider [name]Beatrix[/name]? It’s obviously a [name]Beatrice[/name] variant but has the same quirkiness that [name]Imogen[/name] has
Between [name]Phoebe[/name] and [name]Beatrice[/name], my choice would be [name]Beatrice[/name]. Any reason why you have ruled out [name]Rosalind[/name]? That’s my favorite of the three. They are all beautiful choices though. I love your taste. [name]Henry[/name] was our top boy name and I really liked [name]Beatrice[/name] and [name]Rosalind[/name] for first names but my husband was not on board. (I did use [name]Beatrice[/name] as a middle name with one of our daughters though.)
I have to vote for [name]Beatrice[/name]. It is on my own short list. So many cute nn and I [name]LOVE[/name] the meaning. [name]Beatrice[/name] and [name]Imogen[/name] go so nicely together, [name]IMO[/name]. I have never been a fan of [name]Phoebe[/name]-- I can’t quite explain why. [name]Phoebe[/name] seems so common next to [name]Imogen[/name], although I realize I will be in the minority with that opinion.
Wow, very Shakespearean set. I like all of your choices, but I think I’d pick [name]Beatrice[/name] because it’s at the same level of beauty and uniqueness as [name]Imogen[/name] (for me), whereas [name]Phoebe[/name] is a bit more regular.
You know, they are DUE on Twelfth [name]Night[/name]! If they’d been boy-girls, they would have been [name]Sebastian[/name] and [name]Viola[/name], no question!!
But they’re girls, so – had to find something else. I don’t love [name]Viola[/name] enough to go with it alone, although it is beautiful.
They are both beautiful. [name]Henry[/name], [name]Imogen[/name] and [name]Phoebe[/name] seems a better fit for me, but [name]Beatrice[/name] is gorgeous. [name]Olivia[/name] or Illyria (for Twelfth [name]Night[/name])? And [name]Miranda[/name] is pretty… ([name]Shakespeare[/name] mood over here).
I like both, but I think [name]Imogen[/name] and [name]Beatrice[/name] match in style just a bit more. Gorgeous set of names, no matter which you choose.
Strictly as a pair of twin names I love the symmetry in the shared vowels of [name]Imogen[/name] and [name]Phoebe[/name]… But adding [name]Henry[/name] into the equation I think each child might prefer having their own ending sound I am going to vote for [name]Beatrice[/name]. [name]Both[/name] are really great! =]
