I much prefer [name_u]Phoenix[/name_u] for a boy.

It really doesn’t feel feminine at all to me, I think because it ends in ‘nix’ which sounds quite like [name_u]Nick[/name_u].

I know 2 girls called [name_u]Phoenix[/name_u]. (I’m in Aus).

Absolutely boy. Makes me think of [name_u]River[/name_u] [name_u]Phoenix[/name_u], which is a great association (despite his tragic fate).

[name_u]River[/name_u] [name_u]Phoenix[/name_u], definitely boy.

It’s all boy to me. I used to babysit a 9 month old boy named [name_u]Phoenix[/name_u].

Im in Australia, and I’ve only ever met the one person named [name_u]Phoenix[/name_u].

It’s all boy for me too. I prefer the similar sounding names [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] and [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] for a girl.

I voted boy.
Since all word names are (and with some extent should) be unisex, I made my choice on imagery.
I think that Phoenix for a boy still has some of the magical, wild and powerful connections to the mythical Phoenix.
For a girl, the first thing I see is X-men villain lady who couldn’t control her power at all, so the magic of the name feels diminished. I also don’t like the imagery of a woman with awesome power not being able to control it, losing herself in the process.

If it’s the sound you like, there are other names I would choose before Phoenix, in addition to those already mentioned, Photine, Pheadra, Persis, Ffion, Fiammetta (means little fire in case meaning is important), Faustine, Frostine, Felixa/Felixia, Alix (a-LEEKS), Calixta, Beatrix.
Going unrecognisably rare there’s Rixende and Viatrix ^^

[name_f]Glad[/name_f] to see mostly boy. I love, and have always loved, [name_u]Phoenix[/name_u] on a boy.

I think [name_u]Phoenix[/name_u] is more suitable on a boy and preferably in the middle spot. Unless the place holds some special significance for the parents, I don’t encourage their usage. Yes, I know the phoenix is a Greek mythological bird but MOST people will have a stronger association with the city in [name_f]Arizona[/name_f].

[name_f]My[/name_f] thoughts exactly.

I’m in the minority, as I say girl. In Chinese symbolism, for example at a wedding banquet, the [name_u]Phoenix[/name_u] represents the female entity and the dragon represents the male, so I think of a [name_u]Phoenix[/name_u] as being female.
