Phyllis?

Thoughts on Phyllis?

I am loving this name lately, especially nn’s Fillie/Filly and Fizz. But a lot of people seem to hate it! Is it usable on a little girl these days?

Please share any ideas or opinions!

It is kind of cute and swish - Flyss would make a sweet nickname too

i like phyllis, it’s different !

it for sure has some trendy sounds, it reminds me a little of felicity or alice - i wonder why it hasn’t made a comeback ? perhaps it has too much of the ‘dated’ image that doesn’t quite fit that sweet spot for people interested in vintage names

fillie and fizz are such sweet nicknames, i think fifi could be fun too ! :relieved:

[name_f]My[/name_f] first though is [name_f]Phyllis[/name_f] from The Office. Not necessarily a bad thing.

I like it, [name_f]Lily[/name_f] or [name_f]Lys[/name_f] would be nice nicknames

I also think of the character from The Office. I want to like [name_f]Phyllis[/name_f], but it seems too frumpy to me. I don’t think the “phil” sound is very flattering.

Maybe you would like [name_f]Doris[/name_f] too? I think [name_f]Doris[/name_f] might be ready for a comeback.

I honestly love it, it features in a lot of Renaissance love poetry so it sounds very romantic and idyllic to me! And I love a name with a ph (probably because I have one :joy:). It does read as dated but that could change, eg could become vintage-cool like Winifred or Agnes

Still too dated

Flyss is super cute!

I love [name_f]Doris[/name_f] too!

Something about vintage girl names that end in S, like [name_f]Mavis[/name_f] and [name_f]Agnes[/name_f] has that charm for me

Fair! That’s definitely a point I’ve seen brought up often

I like it. It hasn’t quite come around to being fresh enough again to make my own list, but I’d be delighted to see it on someone else’s kid and i don’t think it would stand out as dated in a bad way next to all the other vintage names that have caught on.

Fillie is a horse.
[name_f]Phyllis[/name_f] is right there with [name_f]Peggy[/name_f] and [name_f]Dotty[/name_f] and [name_f]Betsy[/name_f] and [name_f]Norma[/name_f] and Gerdaline and [name_f]Noreen[/name_f] for me. 60+ ys old.

I think [name_f]Phyllis[/name_f] has serious comeback potential in another decade or so.

It sounds wrong in many ways. In my opinion at least.

I find it dated and rather frumpy, to be honest. It lacks the classic appeal of [name_f]Alice[/name_f] or the floral connection of [name_f]Iris[/name_f]. I can see it coming back at some point, though but I don’t think it’s quite there yet.
