I will start by picking " Minerals and Metals". I went to school with two boys who had [name]Clay[/name] as a name and [name]Emery[/name] is in my family tree (male). Please pick one of the lists and list which of the names you have known personally (no literary or celebrity figures, please).
I don’t think I explaind this well. What I meant was to go to the nameberry hot lists, pick one and post it’s name and then tell of real people you have known or people from your family with the names from that list. it will help everyone see just how frequently these names are really used in real life. Please don’t include celebrities or literary fictional characters in your replies, only people you have known in real life or in your past family tree.
Geezer names for girls is the list I’m picking.
[name]Sydney[/name] is my cousin
and [name]Wallace[/name] is a little girl in my family.
[name]Wallace[/name] is an unusual choice for girls but I kinda like it:)
I pick: Names All Your Friends [name]Will[/name] Think Are Cool
[name]Donovan[/name]–my cousin’s name (he’s 18 by the way)
[name]Elvis[/name]–a plumber and my uncles friend hehe
[name]Georgia[/name]–she was my school counselor
[name]Miles[/name]–graduated a few years before me
[name]Rowan[/name]–she lives about 3 miles from me
[name]Sasha[/name]–a girl in my class
By the way, from Geezer Names for Girls, I went to business school with a girl named [name]Barrie[/name].
From “Names All Your Friends [name]Will[/name] Think Are Cool”, I went to school with [name]Delaney[/name] and [name]Lark[/name]. I go to church with a [name]Maisie[/name] (elderly) and [name]Lola[/name] (middle-aged), my nephew’s mn is [name]Jackson[/name], and [name]Georgia[/name] and [name]Violet[/name] are in my family tree.
The list I picked was Blond [name]Baby[/name] Names.
[name]Aubrey[/name] - A friend named her 5th child this
[name]Blake[/name] - my brother who actually has blond hair
Mad Men Names (I finally started watching this show):
* [name]Betty[/name]--I don't know a [name]Betty[/name] but I know a [name]Betsy[/name] in her twenties
* [name]Don[/name]--my dad is [name]Don[/name]
* [name]Freddy[/name]--I met a [name]Fred[/name] who was my age once and it was rather shocking (I'm 20-something)
* [name]Greg[/name]--I have a cousin a couple years younger who is a [name]Greg[/name]
* [name]Helen[/name]--one of my former coworkers, probably in her 50s
* [name]Joan[/name]--one of my classmates in high school went by [name]Joanie[/name] so it's likely enough that her name was [name]Joan[/name]
* [name]Ken[/name]--I knew a [name]Kenny[/name] in high school
* [name]Midge[/name]--one of my husband's relatives, probably in her 60s
* [name]Paul[/name]--a former boyfriend, my age
* [name]Peggy[/name]--I have a great-aunt [name]Peggy[/name]
* [name]Rachel[/name]--I've met countless Rachels over the years, including a couple good childhood friends
My next list is Classic girl’s names.
[name]Katherine[/name]: My greatgrandmother
[name]Irene[/name]: my great aunt…not by blood we just call her that XD
[name]Beatrice[/name]: My aunt
Yeah and Wallece is kinda weird isn’t it?
I wonder if it’s the same [name]Barrie[/name] my sister went to school with! That would be weird, there could be two, right?
To answer the question, I don’t know that many babies to pick any out from a distinctive list, they would be on the mostly conventional side, not very interesting. I know adults with some of the names, like most people so far, but I don’t think because my great-aunt is named [name]Millie[/name], or I knew a girl named [name]Millie[/name] in middle school (which was weird at the time, actually, and I never found out what it was short for) that it makes as much of a statement as a parent using it now. Someone named their son [name]Joshua[/name] - not very interesting! It’s pretty much all I got!
Under “Blond [name]Baby[/name] Names”, [name]Blanch[/name] was my husband’s great-aunt, and [name]Boyd[/name] is one of his nephews’ first name. Neither were/are blond, however.
On “Mad Men Names”, the ones I have NOT known are [name]Trudy[/name], [name]Midge[/name], [name]Francine[/name], and [name]Dick[/name]. All of the rest are people in my family or people I went to school or church with. I agree with [name]Karen[/name] that this might not tell us if these are good moniker’s for today’s babies but for me this was more of an experiment in seeing which names are used in real life. Some of the names I love the most, I have never known anyone who carried them in real life. I might still consider them if I were naming someone (a person or fictional character) however.
[name]Karen[/name], does your sister live in VA. That is where I went to school with [name]Barrie[/name] (a female)?
No, she went to a business school in NY and talked about a girl she’d met with that name. I guess there are two Barries (at least two). It’s not seriously outlandish to me, if you like the name [name]Barry[/name] for a boy (back some years, hopefully) or you want to name your daughter after a man to feminize it, it’s close to [name]Carrie[/name] and [name]Mary[/name] or even [name]Bonnie[/name], so what the heck, right? But it’s still unusual.
