Pick one that fits the vibe

Elizabeth ‘Merritt’ is the one :smiling_face_with_three_hearts::smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Historical, timeless, academic, and a hint preppy.

I think [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] adds the hint of preppy

[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f]Merritt[/name_f] is my preference personally, but [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Merritt[/name_f] feels right for you! [name_f][/name_f] It pairs so well with [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] [name_m]Wells[/name_m] :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

I agree! I really see the draw with [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f]Merritt[/name_f] it flows so well. But [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Merritt[/name_f] is right for our family and I can see why.

Out of curiosity, why the preference of [name_f]Merritt[/name_f] over [name_f]Merit[/name_f]? (I agree, [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is best in first, you can still use [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] if [name_f]Merritt[/name_f] doesn’t quite stick or she wants one name for home and one for her school/work etc).

I am thinking about my answer to this  I think it’s because since it’s an unusual name for a girl, I think the more traditional spelling makes it less unusual. The only other reason is, that when I search “baby Merritt” as well as “baby Merit” on social media just to see how much the name is being used, lots of baby girls pop up and they are 90% Merritt over any other spelling. So Merit feels a little off to me. However I really like the look of Wells and Merit written down and the look of Elizabeth Merit. I weighed out the pros and cons of both and I think Merritt just wins in the end. Although it’s close for lots of reasons.

To add to this because I think it’s interesting. If I were to participate in the poll or someone were to ask me I think I would say I prefer Merit and recommend that spelling to someone else. But when it comes to a real life human to name, it changes the way I think of it. Don’t know if this makes sense but it’s interesting to me. That what I might recommend to someone else and what i’d choose, might not be the same

Absolutely makes sense as does your reasoning. Thanks for the update, us name nerds like to be kept informed.

[name_m]No[/name_m] problem! Thank y’all for the advice! I asked myself would I want to be named [name_f]Merit[/name_f] or [name_f]Merritt[/name_f] and I think I’d prefer [name_f]Merritt[/name_f]. Because I don’t know how I would feel about being named a word, even if they sound the same.

I think [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is the best option here because [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] is very commonly used as a nickname for [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] so you can still have both! and then when she’s older she can choose another nn if she isn’t vibing with [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] (lizzie, [name_f]Elle[/name_f], [name_f]Beth[/name_f], [name_f]Effy[/name_f], Liza)
