I think of [name]Pearce[/name] as a surname only, and pronounce the vowel very slightly differently than in [name]Pierce[/name].
[name]Pierce[/name] is the modern variant of the medieval name [name]Piers[/name]. When I see [name]Piers[/name], I pronounce is with a ‘z’ sound at the end (rhymes with tears/leers), whereas [name]Pierce[/name] has a sharp sibilant S.
[name]Pierce[/name] is, of course, a somewhat violent verb. To avoid any misinterpretation, I think [name]Pearce[/name] is the safest, though [name]Pierce[/name] is the dominant spelling and most recognizable form of the name.
I never liked the look of [name]Pearce[/name]. I want to pronounce like pear
[name]Pierce[/name] and [name]Piers[/name] are very different. I love [name]Piers[/name]
[name]Piers[/name] is a nature/nautical name to me; it’s soft and calm. I pronounce it “peerz”
[name]Pierce[/name] is sharp and forceful; I think of pain (piercing headache or pierced with a dagger). I pronounce it differently but it’s hard to explain
[name]Ridley[/name] [name]Pierce[/name] is very handsome, [name]IMO[/name]. I like [name]Piers[/name], but it has a softer pronunciation to me. I say [name]Piers[/name] more like “peers.”
I love [name]Ridley[/name]! [name]Ridley[/name] is so cool and handsome.
I’m with everyone else in that I pronounce [name]Pierce[/name] and [name]Piers[/name] differently (don’t like [name]Pearce[/name]). I think either would sound great with [name]Ridley[/name].
