Piers?

What is your opinion of the name [name]Piers[/name]? It is a form of the name [name]Peter[/name], and means “rock”.

I would like to know your first impressions and honest opinions!

Thanks!

I like it although I prefer the classic [name]Peter[/name] or even the [name]Pierre[/name] variation more. First thought; reminds me of [name]Piers[/name] [name]Morgan[/name] but I doubt many people would think of him.

To me it feels sleek and laid back, refined and quite cool. I would pair it with a longer, more solid middle name.

I think it’s cute, I also like pierce

Very handsome and classy. I think it is a great name, also [name]Pierce[/name] is fantastic.

Geek that I am, I immediately thought of [name]Piers[/name] [name]Anthony[/name]

I love it!

I prefer [name]Pierce[/name]. I’d assume you got your inspiration from [name]America[/name]'s Got Talent. I used to joke with my guy that his name is a plural form of a dock that goes out into the water.

Derivatives of this name are common in my family. My grandmother is [name]Pierrette[/name], my uncle is [name]Pierre[/name], and my cousin is [name]Peter[/name]. The only [name]Piers[/name] I ever knew was from [name]Sweden[/name], so this version of the name would make me connect you with Scandanavian roots. Like other people have mentioned, I prefer [name]Pierce[/name], although it is not pronounced the same way as [name]Piers[/name].

Thank you all for your replies! I was hoping that it was a likable name, not too pretentious but solid and debonaire.

Ha, no, I didn’t get it off [name]America[/name]'s Got Talent - the only episode I have ever seen of either that or the British version is the [name]Susan[/name] Boyle “I [name]Dream[/name] a [name]Dream[/name]” episode. I actually got it from a street sign I noticed as I was driving one day. I believe the street was actually called “[name]Pierson[/name]”, but it made me truly think about [name]Piers[/name] as a name. I love it now!

Thank you all, too, who suggested [name]Pierce[/name] as an option. I’ve known a few Pierces personally, and sadly, I cannot get past the “stabbing” connotation. Yes, I realize that [name]Piers[/name] is pronounced identically, but I am a very visual person and visualize the spelling of a name as I say it.

Thanks again!

I actually pronounce [name]Piers[/name] differently from [name]Pierce[/name]. I’d pronounce [name]Pierce[/name] Pier-ss (with a snakey ess sound at the end) and [name]Piers[/name] a bit more like Pier-zz (with a zed sound at the end, or zee to Americans). So [name]Piers[/name] I relate to names like [name]Miles[/name] and [name]James[/name].

I really love it. I like it much better than [name]Peter[/name] or [name]Pierce[/name]. I grew up with a groovy hippy down the road called [name]Piers[/name] (his kids were [name]Leila[/name] and [name]Sholto[/name], other names to love). And I was also a [name]Piers[/name] [name]Anthony[/name] fan (but only the Xanth books).

I think it’s classy, different without being weird, familiar but not popular…

[name]Piers[/name] = win.

[name]Piers[/name] is one of my favourites. It’s laid-back and historical sounding and easy to say all at once. Plus, if you’re into literary references, there’s [name]Piers[/name] Ploughman.

I know a British guy named [name]Piers[/name], and he wears the name well.

Ditto on [name]Piers[/name] and [name]Pierce[/name] being pronounced differently. I would pronounce [name]Piers[/name] with a ‘z’ sound at the end, like [name]Piers[/name] [name]Anthony[/name].

I had a son in [name]November[/name] and named him [name]Piers[/name]. We love his name and think it suits him well. Admittedly, I was a little sad at first that I didn”t get more compliments on his name and was scared I chose the wrong name. But we stuck to it and I”m so glad we did. Most people I”ve come across have never heard of the name, and you have to repeat it and sometimes even spell it, but that”s a minor price to pay to have a unique/distinguished name. Many hear it as ”[name]Pierce[/name].” Others have said, ”wow, what a great name, sounds like a writer or a spy.” Who wouldn”t want a name like that? While I don”t think it is the world”s best baby name, I do think it is the perfect name for professional/good-looking adult male (and really, how long are they babies for, not long). key is to say the name with confidence and be glad you made a unique choice that he will someday thank you for!

Best luck.
