[name_f]My[/name_f] BF and I are welcoming our first baby this year and I’m hoping you all can provide me with some guidance/advice.
[name_f]My[/name_f] BF really wants to honor his mom, [name_m]Pip[/name_m] (not short for anything), and I’m just worried it isn’t suitable? I have thought about it as a middle name, but I can’t find any first names. For some reason, nothing sounds good with [name_m]Pip[/name_m] to me. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you have any ideas? I like a lot of “nickname as full names” like [name_f]Rosie[/name_f], [name_f]Millie[/name_f], [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], etc. however BF’s last name ends with Y so they sound silly together
[name_m]How[/name_m] about naming her [name_f]Pippa[/name_f]? Then you can use the nickname [name_m]Pip[/name_m]. [name_f]Pippa[/name_f] is actually a nickname for [name_f]Phillipa[/name_f], so that fits well with you love of nick names
[name_f]Pippa[/name_f] is cute ([name_f]Phillipa[/name_f] isn’t my style though) but I think it would be weird to call the baby “[name_m]Pip[/name_m]” since I’m super close with my BF’s mother and call her [name_m]Pip[/name_m] regularly
Are you comfortable using [name_u]Piper[/name_u] or [name_f]Pippa[/name_f], etc? Or does it need to be [name_m]Pip[/name_m]? I think the name [name_m]Pip[/name_m] is very cute!
I like [name_f]Pippa[/name_f] (never been fond of [name_u]Piper[/name_u]), but I don’t know if I feel brave enough (or comfortable enough) to use it as a first name. As a middle name, it would have to stay solely as [name_m]Pip[/name_m]. [name_f]Millicent[/name_f] and [name_f]Jillian[/name_f] are a little too old for me and if it wasn’t for my BF’s ex, I’d be all for [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] (her name was [name_f]Mia[/name_f], but full name was [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]).
There are technically other female family names…but none that I like LOL
I like the idea of using [name_m]Pip[/name_m] as a nickname and/or middle name. It would be a great middle name for lots of names. I have met many people who go by their middle name – often it has family significance or is cutesy – but are glad to have a given name for professional purposes and such. If you want to be more direct, go for a first name that can have [name_m]Pip[/name_m] as a nickname.
I like [name_f]Pippa[/name_f] with nn [name_m]Pip[/name_m]. Any feminization of [name_m]Philip[/name_m] would work intuitively:
Most of these are a bit more out there. The other idea is that “[name_m]Pip[/name_m]” is a nickname that I think a lot of girls or boys could be called without it actually being directly related to their names, or even if they just had a name that started with the letter P.
I still really don’t feel comfortable or brave enough to use [name_m]Pip[/name_m] as a nickname. Since I’m so close with [name_m]Pip[/name_m] and call her that regularly, it would just be SUPER weird for me. I like [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] but my BF’s last name sounds wealthy/extravagant (as we’ve been told) and I think it sounds a little too pretentious with it. I think I can say with about 100% certainty that I want [name_m]Pip[/name_m] as a middle name
A joyous, bouncy name would work w/[name_m]Pip[/name_m], I think…
[name_f]Allegra[/name_f] [name_m]Pip[/name_m]
[name_f]Juliana[/name_f] [name_m]Pip[/name_m]
[name_f]Malaya[/name_f] [name_m]Pip[/name_m]
[name_f]Catalina[/name_f] [name_m]Pip[/name_m]
[name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_m]Pip[/name_m]
[name_u]Juniper[/name_u] [name_m]Pip[/name_m]
[name_f]Natalie[/name_f] [name_m]Pip[/name_m]
[name_f]Pippa[/name_f] and [name_u]Piper[/name_u] are great options! I really like them and [name_m]Pip[/name_m] is fine, but if it would be weird having a child with your mother-in laws name then don’t use it. Some Middle Names could be [name_f]Cora[/name_f], [name_u]Simone[/name_u], [name_u]Rowen[/name_u], [name_f]Camelia[/name_f], [name_f]Naomi[/name_f]…
I don’t have an issue using [name_m]Pip[/name_m]'s name as a middle name; it’s using it as a first name that makes me feel weird. I’m not loving [name_f]Cora[/name_f], [name_u]Simone[/name_u], [name_u]Rowen[/name_u], [name_f]Camelia[/name_f], or [name_f]Naomi[/name_f]; sorry!
