Plain Jane?

Hey all!

What do you think of the name [name_f]Jane[/name_f]? Too plain or not really anymore?

Thanks

I find it very plain. I knew a [name_f]Jane[/name_f] back in elementary school and she was pretty exciting. I never thought such a plain name like [name_f]Jane[/name_f] fit her very well. I know I’m probably alone in my thoughts about [name_f]Jane[/name_f] though so…

I like [name_f]Jane[/name_f] I’d prefer [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f], though <3

This is probably my second favorite name right now. I think it’s beautiful and classic, and unexpected at this point. [name_f]Janie[/name_f] for a little on is precious. I love [name_f]Jane[/name_f]! Unfortunately, [name_f]Janie[/name_f] 100% rhymed with my SO’s last name so I’ll probably have to give it up.

I don’t think it’s plain at all. So many people want flowery, extravagent, or unique names nowadays (which is fine!) but strong, beautiful, and classy [name_f]Jane[/name_f] would set a girl apart!

I actually really like [name_f]Jane[/name_f]. It’s not at all popular (which is great), and it has a lovely vintage feel, refined and creative or artsy (a bit like [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]). I feel like it’s completely unfair that it still has that plain [name_f]Jane[/name_f], boring and dull image. Plus I quite like [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_m]Bennet[/name_m] from Pride and Prejudice (way more than [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] anyway). If I met a really energetic and excitable [name_f]Jane[/name_f], it’d be great. I think it would make a pretty good double first too; [name_f]Rosemarie[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] or something similar.

I’ve always loved [name_f]Jane[/name_f], I’ve met many adult janes and there’s allways such fun people too. Could be [name_f]Jayne[/name_f] if you want to add some modern flair. I think jay is a fun nn if need be. [name_f]Jane[/name_f] is less common these days so stands out a bit more and fun names like [name_f]Molly[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] & [name_f]Maryjane[/name_f] and [name_f]Bella[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] add too it a bit of you want

I [name_f]ADORE[/name_f] the name [name_f]Jane[/name_f], always have ever since I was a little girl. [name_f]My[/name_f] husband isn’t as fond of it and considers it to be boring and plain and old ladyish. I’m still fighting my corner for calling our daughter [name_f]Jane[/name_f]!

I love, love, love [name_f]Jane[/name_f]. I would have it on my own list, but my best friend is using it to honor her mother.

I love [name_f]Jane[/name_f] because a [name_f]Jane[/name_f] can be sweet, or adventerous. I picture [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_u]Porter[/name_u] from [name_m]Tarzan[/name_m], a little girl in a lace nighty, and my favorite [name_f]Jane[/name_f] Goodall.

There is nothing plain about [name_f]Jane[/name_f] Goodall.

[name_u]Love[/name_u] it, but yes, lots of people will think it ā€˜boring’ at first. I love it as just [name_f]Jane[/name_f], [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] or [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f]. A great choice if you have a longer surname too.

[name_f]Jane[/name_f] is one of the few simple names I like. I prefer it spelt [name_f]Jayne[/name_f] though.

I like [name_f]Jane[/name_f]. I think it’s pretty and sweet and simple in a good way. It has a similar feel to me as [name_f]Grace[/name_f] without being as popular.

I really like [name_f]Jane[/name_f]. I think the term ā€œplainā€ just needs to be translated to ā€œsimple and cleanā€ instead of a ā€œfrilly or over cluttered name" - [name_f]Evangelina[/name_f] or [name_f]Anastasia[/name_f] come to mind as an opposite.

I honestly think that [name_f]Jane[/name_f] needs to be in a first name place for her to get her due. As a middle name I feel like [name_f]Jane[/name_f] sort of becomes the shy wall flower as a first name she can be beautiful in her simplicity. Easily approachable, unassuming, classy and true.

I like [name_f]Jane[/name_f]. It’s a smart name. Its simple, chic, feminine, sophisticated, strong, underused, vintage, familiar,… what isn’t this name? Everyone knows how to pronounce it, as opposed to some other classics like [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] which have a plethora of pronounciations. It’s adorable for a little girl and will translate well as she ages. Strangely enough, I’ve never met a [name_f]Jane[/name_f] before, but my mother’s name is [name_f]Janet[/name_f]. [name_f]Janie[/name_f] could be a possible nn, but I’m opposed to using nicknames for [name_f]Jane[/name_f]. I’m all about the nicknames, but any nickname for [name_f]Jane[/name_f] is really destroying the nobleness of the name. It is beautiful as-is. Why change [name_f]Jane[/name_f]? [name_f]Jane[/name_f], like [name_f]Mary[/name_f], has had such a long history, but unlike [name_f]Mary[/name_f], [name_f]Jane[/name_f] has not carried on in the past decades. A shame, really. I’m all for naming your daughter [name_f]Jane[/name_f].

I made a thread for this a while back because I’m a HUGE fan of sweet and simple [name_f]Jane[/name_f]
I love it more as first name than a middle because I feel like it’s a common ā€˜go to’ middle for parents who don’t know what else to use.
But as a first name, I adore it

Like others here, I know a [name_f]Jane[/name_f] (and I have only ever met one, so it seems a rare name to me) who is a fun, smart, honest person with a sense of adventure and an awesome personality.

The best selling point: There are sooo many good songs about [name_f]Jane[/name_f]!!! From many different artists! And so many famous characters are [name_f]Jane[/name_f] - [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_u]Austen[/name_u], [name_m]Tarzan[/name_m] & [name_f]Jane[/name_f], [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Eyre[/name_f] - and she gets the best adventures and the best romances. I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_f]Jane[/name_f].

[name_f]Jane[/name_f] is stunning - not plain at all! I find it sweet, sleek, tailored, sophisticated, and strong. It calls to mind [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Eyre[/name_f] and [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_m]Bennet[/name_m], plus [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_u]Austen[/name_u] and [name_f]Jane[/name_f] Goodall. So many wonderful associations.

I never used to like [name_f]Jane[/name_f], but that wasn’t because it was too plain or anything, (I think that image is very outdated), it just wasn’t my style. Now, I quite like [name_f]Jane[/name_f] as it’s a classic that isn’t over-the-top popular. At least not yet.

[name_f]Jane[/name_f] was so overused in all the 1940’s primary readers and carried on for 20 years and them some. It was so worn out it was put to bed…now after 50 years a [name_f]Jane[/name_f] would almost sound refreshing!

[name_f]Jane[/name_f] is a classic with tons of history behind it, that will never become dated. There have been so many great [name_f]Janes[/name_f] in history and pop culture. [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_u]Austen[/name_u] is one of my favourite authors. The name itself is beautiful in its sweet and unpretentious but regal simplicity. It could suit any type of girl. I love [name_f]Jane[/name_f] paired with a frillier, more dramatic name- my favourite combinations are [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f], [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Araminta[/name_f], and [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f]. I’ve only known a handful of [name_f]Janes[/name_f] in real life; it’s definitely not overused or too common.

[name_f]Jane[/name_f] is one of those names I want to love, but really don’t. Especially as I am such a huge [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_u]Austen[/name_u] fan.
It seems very ordinary and plain to me, probably mostly due to the fact that nearly every female I know has the middle name [name_f]Jane[/name_f] (or [name_f]Jayne[/name_f]).
