One of my all-time favourite names is [name_f]Leonor[/name_f], pronounced either [name_m]LEO[/name_m]-nor ([name_f]Leonore[/name_f]) or [name_m]Leo[/name_m]-[name_f]NOR[/name_f].
I find it incredibly interesting how others view my personal favourites, what they look or sound like to them, what image they carry, which associations different people have.
So I would like to know how you view my beloved [name_f]Leonor[/name_f].
Describe the image, sounds, colour or connotations; voice your opinion about the name in general if you like.
Today I’m solely asking about [name_f]Leonor[/name_f], not [name_f]Leonora[/name_f], [name_f]Eleonora[/name_f], etc. which are all lovely and on my list as well but this post is not about them
Bonus Question: Do you view Leonor and Leonore differently?
[name_f]Leonor[/name_f] is a sort of foreign name- leaving off the ‘e’ gives it a more boyish feel. It seems very bright, and maybe yellowy-orange or light spring green. I’d peg it for a definite spring name- new life, happiness, fresh air, and newly found warmth. It’s very unique; I picture a girl with an affinity for finer arts such as painting, sculpting, or cooking. It sounds like birds chirping and it smells like freshly cut grass and an oceanside breeze with a hint of wild rose. If given the girlish nickname ‘[name_f]Nora[/name_f]’, it’s very colorful and more feminine. Perhaps her ‘fine art’ would be bouquet arrangement. If you go with ‘[name_m]Leo[/name_m]’, I picture a more tomboyish kind of person, who might like painting for the mess of it or cooking just to taste the food- someone who truly enjoys life and everything that is.
[name_f]Hope[/name_f] I helped! [name_f]Leonor[/name_f] is a lovely, fresh name.
You definitely helped and your description was lovely to read.
[name_f]Leonor[/name_f] is the Spanish and Portuguese variation of [name_f]Leonore[/name_f]/[name_f]Leonora[/name_f]/etc. and the -e would be included in the pronunciation (the same happens in [name_m]German[/name_m]) that’s why leaving off the -e is somewhat necessary
The spring part, new life, happiness and fresh air made me smile and I can definitely see [name_f]Leonor[/name_f] being an Artist, especially since there is a surrealist artist called [name_f]Leonor[/name_f] Fini.
The last part is perfect “someone who truly enjoys life and everything that is” describes my image perfectly.
I adore [name_f]Leonor[/name_f]. It is also one of my favorite names. She sounds like a princess (and IS currently in most of the crowned houses of Europe - as [name_f]Leonor[/name_f], [name_f]Leonore[/name_f] , [name_f]Eleanore[/name_f] , et cetera) Upper-crust , intellectual, artistic, sophisticated, striking, Old European, and virtually unheard in the US. Perfect.
I really like [name_f]Leonor[/name_f]. It brings to mind darkish, calm colours like blue and purple and I feel that a [name_f]Leonor[/name_f] would be sophisticated and smart, but also very fun to be around. I totally second (or third?) [name_f]Leonor[/name_f] being very artistic.
Thank You.
[name_f]Leonor[/name_f] is very much a princess name to me, mostly due to Infanta (soon [name_f]Princess[/name_f]) [name_f]Leonor[/name_f] of Spain.
However, I wouldn’t say that it’s a very princess-y name, with frills and tulle and glitter attached to it.
While [name_f]Leonor[/name_f] could definitely be that girl, she could also be a wild child, running through [name_f]Barcelona[/name_f]'s streets or drinking tea with the queen.
It’s extremely dear to me since a part of my family is Spanish and [name_f]Leonor[/name_f] would incorporate this, while still being international usable.
The last part of your description fits my image of [name_f]Leonor[/name_f] almost to a T (well , I don’t live in the US)
[name_f]Leonor[/name_f] is a spring name. It’s a soft yellow orange color to me and brings to mind soft textures (think puppy fur) and flowers in bloom. I imagine her as the type of girl who likes to run barefoot outside and get into everything, but she’s very careful not to ruin her little dresses. I can imagine her as a quirky, artsy woman, more toward the extroverted side but also somewhat reclusive and mysterious.
[name_f]Leonor[/name_f] is eloquent grace and beauty, a bold woman like [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_f]Earhart[/name_f] who possesses style and class along with outspoken confidence – a spicy woman fueled by her own bravery.
[name_f]Leonor[/name_f] is sepia-toned photographs of early airplanes and pocket watches. She’s trousers on women, old school pens on parchment paper. Typewriters clacking, bronze keys, old fuzzy radios. She’s the sky at dawn, full of feisty ambition and a limitless crave for adventure that stretches across the horizon. Old passports and travel. Retro and vintage. Booming radio voices that announcers used to use back in the day.
I imagine bed sheet parachutes flowing behind her in the backyard as a child, and cardboard box models of her favorite planes. I envision cereal-eating in the kitchen with the radio turned on, playing the latest news about her favorite pilots and their revolutionary acts.
Dark Colour… that’s interesting since usually people have lighter, yellows and oranges as a colour association. I can definitely see [name_f]Leonor[/name_f] as darker colours though, now that you mentioned it.
Yes, [name_f]Leonor[/name_f] seems to be viewed as very artistic
The part I bolded describes [name_f]Leonor[/name_f] so perfectly, some dresses might get ruined though
Yellow and [name_u]Orange[/name_u] seem to be the colours that are mostly associated with [name_f]Leonor[/name_f] and they seem so right.
To me, [name_f]Leonor[/name_f] feels navy blue- classic, strong, slightly androgynous. Cool and collected- freshly roasted coffee, taken black. Todays newpaper, fingers smudging the ink. [name_u]Early[/name_u] mornings and crisp air, dew brushing your legs. The internal stillness when you are the only person awake. [name_f]Leonor[/name_f] feels regal and elegant- dignified. She knows what she stands for, what she wants and exactly how to get there. She is highly intelligent, witty, with a biting sense of humour. She loves reading, anything and everything, especially the classics like Dickens and Steinbeck. She is creative in a meticulous way- she loves science and mathematics, the smell of new books, the look of new white shirts, perfectly pressed.
This is how I picture [name_f]Leonor[/name_f] as a person:
I girl with medium brown hair, a gorgeous smile that she only gifts to special few. Her eyes lowered towards a book at all time her heart locked up in a metal box. [name_f]Leonor[/name_f] is too scared to fall in love and she reads to satisfy her lust for adventure. She’s not a loner but charms everyone she meets but she chooses to spend her time inside on a Friday night instead of going out. Wise beyond her years she craves knowledge and aims to please everyone that she meats.
That’s very interesting. A very different image of [name_f]Leonor[/name_f] but beautiful nonetheless.
I definitely see [name_f]Leonor[/name_f] reading books but for me they would be fairytale and adventure books rather than classics. Later poetry.
The bit I bolded is very much a part of how I imagine [name_f]Leonor[/name_f] as an adult. While she knows want she wants, she doesn’t always know how to get there but she tries everything to succeed.
Thank You!
You already know that I love your description.
While my image of [name_f]Leonor[/name_f] is different, I love the freedom and adventure that you captured in your description.
I love reading all of your thoughts as everyone views [name_f]Leonor[/name_f] differently which adds to the versatility of the name. While some descriptions might not fit my image, after reading them, I can totally picture [name_f]Leonor[/name_f] being a pilot, an artist, etc.
