Over the weekend I was watching Gone With the Wind and noticed one of the character’s name was ‘[name]India[/name]’. I think its very pretty, but wondered what other’s thoughts were on the name. What would be a good middle name? Also, please list a brother and sister to go with [name]India[/name]. Last name sounds like Furby with a K.
[name]India[/name] is one of those names that I love, but could never use”My DH won’t even consider “state” names like [name]Virginia[/name], so country names are definitely out In any case, I too think of it as an old-fashioned name, although the singer [name]India[/name] [name]Arie[/name] has given it a more modern feel. Because of that, I think siblings could go either way. You could pair [name]India[/name] with other old-fashioned names, or names with a more modern and exotic feel.
Modern-Exoctic
[name]Anya[/name]
[name]Dahlia[/name] (might be a bit too similar)

Is it just me or does [name]India[/name] [name]Arie[/name] sound really cute…haha
Or [name]India[/name] for one child and [name]Ari[/name] for future sib
[name]India[/name] with a middle name ending in ‘ie’ or ‘ise’ would sound really nice - like [name]Louise[/name], [name]Elise[/name], [name]Marie[/name]
Boy name (for future sib) to compliment I’d choose a name like [name]Kingston[/name], [name]Benjamin[/name], [name]Tennyson[/name], [name]Franklin[/name]… I dunno something kinda older and mature sounding I guess…a name that sounds liek it’s been around and has history.
Well my daughters name is [name]India[/name] [name]Rose[/name] so i obviously love it! I just think it is the most beautiful girls name around.
Names for brother and sister…well if we have another daughter we will call her [name]Phoebe[/name] [name]Skye[/name] and if we have a son he will be called [name]Bodhi[/name] [name]Shay[/name].
I absolutely love [name]India[/name]! My great, great grandmother’s name was [name]India[/name]. I haven’t sold my husband on it though! I might have to try the pp suggestion of [name]India[/name] [name]Elise[/name]…very pretty and classy!
Friends of ours have daughters named [name]India[/name] and [name]Xanthe[/name] (zan-thee). [name]India[/name] usually gets called [name]Indi[/name] which I think is really cute.
[name]Hi[/name] Kansasgirl. [name]Do[/name] you actually live in Kansas? I think [name]India[/name] might be a difficult name for a girl in Kansas, but if you are in [name]London[/name] or NYC, then it might be a different matter.
In general, my thoughts on the name [name]India[/name] are this. I love, love, love the name. Hearing it on another person’s kid would be fantastic. But I’ve probably crossed it off of my own list for this reason. It’s one of those names that seems like it has a high chance of being despised by the person who actually owns it. While I adore the name, I wonder if my feelings about it might be very different if it were actually my name. [name]Hope[/name] that makes sense …
I think it’s very pretty and the nn [name]Indy[/name] is adorable. For siblings I like [name]Sadie[/name] and [name]Ezekiel[/name] ([name]Zeke[/name]).
I have always loved the name [name]India[/name] (like you, ever since seeing it in GWTW). People name children after places all the time, so I (personally) don’t think you should let that stop you.
[name]Deirdre[/name], on babynamesworld.parentsconnect.com, you can plug in a name and see what people who have that name think about it- whether they were bullied, whether they would recommend it to parents, etc. Of their survey respondents, 80% like being named [name]India[/name] and 13% are neutral. So I think chances are good that the child won’t react negatively.
