Please Help Me Choose!

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] all, I’m looking for a baby girl name with a Finnish bent.
They are all a bit unique, most of them way out there!
These 2 are my favorite.

Which of the two is your favorite?
Would you have a hard time pronouncing either of them?
Are there any other Finnish baby girl names you’ve come across you think are pretty / feminine?

[name_f]Katja[/name_f]

[name_f]Anika[/name_f]

Thank you so so much!!

They are both very pretty and usable! I would tend to favour [name_f]Anika[/name_f] over [name_f]Katja[/name_f] but I really like both. I don’t think pronunciation will be a big issue with either of these names.

Best of luck!

I could pronounce both of them correctly, but I think that non-name nerds might have slightly more trouble. I’d suggest the spellings [name_f]Annika[/name_f] and [name_f]Katya[/name_f]/[name_f]Katia[/name_f] to ensure correct pronunciation as well as slightly more visual appeal.

I prefer [name_f]Anika[/name_f] over [name_f]Katja[/name_f], mostly because I don’t really know how to pronounce [name_f]Katja[/name_f] (is it kat-yah or kat-ee-uh or neither?)
[name_f]Anika[/name_f] is a very nice name though

[name_f]Katya[/name_f] will likely be shortened to [name_f]Kat[/name_f]. If you don’t like that, I would choose [name_f]Anika[/name_f]. Of the names in full, I prefer [name_f]Katya[/name_f].

I also would prefer [name_f]Anika[/name_f] over [name_f]Katja[/name_f] because for me [name_f]Katja[/name_f] has a slight russian touch. Since I speak [name_m]German[/name_m] and those names are pretty common in Germany/[name_f]Austria[/name_f] I don’t have a hard time pronouncing them but I can understand that some people might have.

I prefer [name_f]Katri[/name_f] which I think is the prettier Finnish version of [name_f]Katherine[/name_f]. but otherwise I’d go with [name_f]Katja[/name_f].

Other Finnish names I like

Satu - ‘fairy tale’
[name_f]Suvi[/name_f] - ‘summer’
Talvi - ‘winter’
[name_f]Ilona[/name_f] - ‘joy’
Ilta - ‘evening’
[name_f]Meri[/name_f] - ‘sea’
[name_f]Marja[/name_f] - ‘berry’
Pilvi - ‘cloud’
Tuuli - ‘wind’
Esteri - form of [name_f]Esther[/name_f]
Asteri - ‘aster’
Minttu - ‘mint’

When I was in school I had a Finnish penpal named [name_f]Katja[/name_f]. It’s a beautiful name. It’s [name_f]Kate[/name_f].
My former penpal has sisters named Satu and [name_f]Marit[/name_f]. Satu has a beautiful meaning (fairytale), but doesn’t seem useable anywhere other than Finland. [name_f]Marit[/name_f] is a version of [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]. I think it is pronounced Ma-reet, but I like [name_u]Merritt[/name_u]. [name_f]Berit[/name_f] is also a pretty and similar Scandinavian name.
I thought [name_f]Annika[/name_f] was Swedish… What about [name_f]Anya[/name_f]/[name_f]Anja[/name_f]? I think it is popular in Scandinavian countries as well.
Some other ideas: [name_f]Suren[/name_f], [name_f]Signe[/name_f]/[name_f]Signy[/name_f], [name_f]Sonya[/name_f]/[name_f]Sonja[/name_f]/[name_f]Sonia[/name_f], [name_f]Vanja[/name_f] ([name_m]Vanya[/name_m] is a male name)
My pick would be [name_f]Katja[/name_f]. It can be spelled [name_f]Katya[/name_f] too. [name_f]Annika[/name_f]/[name_f]Anika[/name_f] is more popular. I prefer [name_f]Anya[/name_f].

[name_m]Both[/name_m] are pretty names but I think [name_f]Katja[/name_f] appeals to me more than [name_f]Anika[/name_f]. I’ve always thought that [name_f]Annikki[/name_f] was the Finnish version of the name.
