[name]Hi[/name] all,
I’m in a dilemma! My cousin had a baby girl last week and called her [name]Grace[/name]. Unbeknownst to her, that had been my No.1 girl’s name for over a decade as I wanted to honour my great grandmother whom I was close to and that was her name. I also love it because it’s strong, yet feminine and warm. I have a list, but now nothing on it seems as special to me.
As we have a longish surname which starts with T and ends in the ‘ie/y’ sound, we are looking at a one-two syllable name that can’t start with a ‘T’ or an ‘E’ (otherwise, intials will be E.T!) or end in that ‘ie/y’ sound. I waver from liking traditional names like [name]Ester[/name], [name]Alice[/name], [name]Mabel[/name], [name]April[/name] to androgynous names like [name]Quinn[/name], [name]Cole[/name], [name]Sloane[/name], [name]Grier[/name] and [name]Noah[/name]. I’m not looking for other virtue style names.
The more I think about it, the more desperate I feel to find that feeling I got that ‘[name]Grace[/name]’ gave me. I’m hoping that your collective genius will be able to give me some inspiration!
It seems like the name [name]Grace[/name] is very meaningful to you and you love it. Does it have to be off the table because your cousin used it? I think it would be particularly understandable for you to use it given the family significance. It’s also a fairly common name so two Graces in the same family doesn’t seem like a big deal. However, if you see them all the time, I can understand why you would want a different name for your daughter.
Does your grandmother have a middle name, maiden name, or last name that you could use somehow? Or is there anyone else you would like to honor?
From the names you mentioned, I love [name]Alice[/name] and [name]Mabel[/name].
aw, too bad you can’t use the name [name]Grace[/name], it’s so pretty and you’ve loved it forever. Could you talk to your cousin and explain and kind of ask her if it’s ok? That’s what I would do. [name]How[/name] does your Dh feel about using the name [name]Grace[/name]?
I am kind of in the same situation as you are. I have grown to love the name annabel (I think it is sooo sweet and cute) but one of my relatives used it for her little girl. I probably wouldn’t use it since I like another name a bit better, but in your case, I would probably ask if they would mind.
Hmmm, if you do need to pick another name, I think [name]Hannah[/name] has the same kid of fell as [name]Grace[/name], so that would be my next pick for you
[name]How[/name] about the beautiful name [name]Anna[/name]? [name]Anna[/name] means “grace”, and is a classic name that goes well with your ln.
Another name that has the same “feel” of [name]Grace[/name] to me is [name]Claire[/name], which is also a classic.
I know how you feel! I wanted to use [name]Grace[/name] too…but my [name]SIL[/name] (DH’s sister) used it as a mn for her daughter [name]Anna[/name]. Wouldn’t be bad, except they call her by her full name all the time. It would be weird for cousins to be [name]Grace[/name] and [name]Anna[/name] [name]Grace[/name]. I do think [name]Anne[/name]/[name]Anna[/name] both have a similar sound to [name]Grace[/name], but the meaning is less…if that makes sense. [name]Claire[/name] and [name]Jane[/name] are also similar. What about [name]Stella[/name]? That was another on our early list. It’s pretty popular with the celebrities (there are like 13 celebrity babies named [name]Stella[/name]) but not as much with “real” people. I think it is a beautiful name.
