We’ve known each other for 20 years… have a wonderful relationship… and our tastes match in almost every area of life, from food to clothes… but we just can’t agree on baby names.
I am 35 weeks pregnant with a little girl.
The problem: I much prefer more unusual names (no wonder, I hang out here) and he’s into traditional names, more like “mom-names” that are in the top 100, and sometimes even top 10.
Of course, it’s very difficult to find a middle ground in this.
I am NOT lobbying for anything really strange or unusual, or “celeb names” on my list there are names such as [name]Estella[/name], [name]Allegra[/name] and [name]Cosima[/name]. (my favorites)
But every time he comes back with [name]Nora[/name], [name]Lily[/name] and [name]Rita[/name] and the likes.
(these are VERY popular names in our home country too, imagine half your ex-classmates moms with these names))
Neither of us has family or religious reasons for all this.
The last name would accomodate any of these nicely.
Is there someone who could give me hints or pointers for negotiating myself out of this in 5 weeks?
What about using a more obscure, unusual name with a well known, common nickname?

Something like that. Otherwise, here are some names that sound like a compromise:
Perhaps you could go over the social security list (or its equivalent bc it sound like you’re not in the us) together and look at names in from spots 100-400 and see if you agree on any of those?
