Please help me name our only daughter!

Hey there! We are expecting our first daughter (she’ll have 3 big brothers) in a few weeks and are still not settled on a name. I really think I’ll need to meet/see her in person before I can pick a name. I’ve gone back and forth so much it’s put me off to even thinking about names anymore. Care to share your thoughts on these options? Open to suggestions as well. Middle names are almost set in stone.

[name_f]Lyra[/name_f] [name_f]Primrose[/name_f] [name_f]Michelle[/name_f]
[name_f]Luna[/name_f] [name_f]Primrose[/name_f] [name_f]Michelle[/name_f]
[name_f]Tallulah[/name_f] [name_f]Primrose[/name_f] [name_f]Michelle[/name_f]
[name_f]Perla[/name_f] [name_f]Primrose[/name_f] [name_f]Michelle[/name_f] (least favorite combo)

I’ve been drawn to calling her [name_f]Lulu[/name_f] as a nickname, although it’s not a must. This will be our only daughter and I just want her name to be as precious/beautiful as she is. Help, please!

[name_f]Tallulah[/name_f] and [name_f]Perla[/name_f] both feel like a bit much in that combination.

[name_f]Luna[/name_f] [name_f]Primrose[/name_f] [name_f]Michelle[/name_f] flows the best to me, and it comes with the nickname [name_f]Lulu[/name_f]! I really love [name_f]Luna[/name_f].

Honestly, none of these names are my style. Here are a few similar sounding names:

[name_f]Clementine[/name_f]
[name_f]Eloise[/name_f]-[name_f]Lulu[/name_f]
[name_f]Louisa[/name_f]-[name_f]Lulu[/name_f]
[name_f]Lila[/name_f]
[name_f]Stella[/name_f]

I think [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f] is such a fun name and [name_f]Lulu[/name_f] is a perfect nn for it. As an adult it would be my choice of names, as it has some sass as well. My second favorite is probably [name_f]Luna[/name_f], with [name_f]Lyra[/name_f] third. [name_f]Perla[/name_f] makes me think of lovely women’s underwear, and so I wouldn’t use it personally.

I think that [name_f]Luna[/name_f] [name_f]Primrose[/name_f] [name_f]Michelle[/name_f] is my favorite of these combos, and it has [name_f]Lulu[/name_f] as a NN, which is a plus! Whatever you name her though, I’m sure she’ll be beautiful!

[name_f]Lyra[/name_f] fits best

Thanks everyone. [name_f]Perla[/name_f] is definitely our least favorite and probably getting nixed.

One problem has been that I am drawn to more lacey/romantic names like [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f] and [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] and my hubby balks at anything over 2 syllables. :frowning: I asked him to give me a list of 10 names he’d consider that were over 2 syllables and he still hasn’t come up with 10. And some of them were just too common/overused for what I’d like ([name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], [name_f]Isabella[/name_f]), and some have already been used by family members ([name_u]Evelyn[/name_u]). Any tips on finding a better compromise? Keep the thoughts coming!

I liked [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] or [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] as another commenter mentioned. [name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]?

I also like [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] but my husband hates it!! Perhaps it’s a man thing!

[name_m]How[/name_m] about more romantic, but shorter names:

[name_f]Rose[/name_f]
[name_f]Clara[/name_f]
[name_f]Celia[/name_f]
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]
[name_f]Alice[/name_f]
[name_f]Cora[/name_f]
[name_f]Camille[/name_f]
[name_f]Norah[/name_f]
[name_f]Sylvie[/name_f]

I would pick [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f] from this list, and it works very well with your NN.

I like [name_f]Luna[/name_f] [name_f]Primrose[/name_f] [name_f]Michelle[/name_f] the best. “The godlike moon-rose,” or something like that, is a wonderful meaning.

Of your choices, my favorite is [name_f]Lyra[/name_f]…it has such a graceful sound. I don’t see why you couldn’t use [name_f]Lulu[/name_f] as a nn if you wanted to. Second favorite is [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f]…I actually have a second cousin, who’s now in her early 30s, w/this name. Although our families aren’t close, as far as I know she’s known as [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f] rather than any nn. I do like [name_f]Luna[/name_f], but it seems less usable [name_m]IRL[/name_m] because of the easy slide into “Looney.”

If you like [name_f]Lulu[/name_f] as a nn, have you considered:

[name_f]Luisa[/name_f] (Loo-EE-sah)
[name_f]Lucinda[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucienne[/name_f]
Lucilia

I don’t know if you’d go for this one, but Luljeta means “flower of life” in Albanian, which I thought was a lovely meaning. I have no idea how to pronounce it, though.

[name_f]Eluned[/name_f] comes from Welsh.

Names that don’t lend themselves to the nn [name_f]Lulu[/name_f], but are lacy/romantic (at least to me):

[name_f]Larissa[/name_f]
[name_f]Juliet[/name_f]
[name_f]Alexa[/name_f]
[name_f]Jessica[/name_f]
[name_f]Amanda[/name_f]
[name_f]Natalia[/name_f]
[name_f]Anastasia[/name_f]
[name_f]Elena[/name_f]
[name_f]Cecilia[/name_f]/[name_f]Cecily[/name_f]
[name_f]Clarissa[/name_f]
[name_f]Elisabetta[/name_f]
[name_f]Francesca[/name_f]

Good luck!

[name_f]Tallulah[/name_f] and [name_f]Perla[/name_f] are my favorites.

[name_f]Luna[/name_f] [name_f]Primrose[/name_f] [name_f]Michelle[/name_f] is my favourite - [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f] is a bit frilly for me, and [name_f]Lyra[/name_f] is very very popular where I live. [name_f]Perla[/name_f] just doesn’t sound very attractive to my ear, sorry; also, no [name_f]Lulu[/name_f] nickname! [name_f]Luna[/name_f] and its meaning are both so beautiful.

As for compromise names between you and your husband, are there any which could have a long and then a short form? For example, a [name_f]Miriam[/name_f] ([name_f]Mimi[/name_f]) or [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] ([name_f]Etta[/name_f]). That way, you could both get your ‘name’ in there… a [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f] could be a [name_f]Lina[/name_f]/[name_f]Lena[/name_f], or an [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] would work as [name_f]Eva[/name_f]/[name_u]Angie[/name_u]/[name_f]Annie[/name_f]/[name_f]Anna[/name_f]/[name_f]Ella[/name_f]/[name_f]Lina[/name_f]. Kind of like a nickname, but without the extremely cutesy feel that I always have in my more ‘nicknamey’ nicknames. [name_f]Hope[/name_f] that makes sense. Good luck!

I like [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f], it’s gorgeous, sweet but not too sweet and comes with more than one nickname possibility. It’s the name I’d most like to wear as an adult.

[name_f]Lyra[/name_f] and [name_f]Luna[/name_f] are pretty, but my mind just goes to Liar and Looney. [name_f]Perla[/name_f] is interesting, but I think I’d love [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] more.

It must be difficult to settle on just one name when you finally have the chance to name a daughter! Congrats. [name_f]Do[/name_f] any of the names go better with her big brothers?

[name_f]Tallulah[/name_f] nn [name_f]Lula[/name_f]!!

I like [name_f]Luna[/name_f] the best, followed by [name_f]Lyra[/name_f]

My favorite is [name_f]Talullah[/name_f] [name_f]Primrose[/name_f] [name_f]Michelle[/name_f], although I’m assuming [name_f]Michelle[/name_f] is an honor name and I personally would go with Mielle instead, which sounds a little more modern and means honey in [name_m]French[/name_m] (miel). It still counts as an honor name imo…it’s like variations on a theme! I knew of a girl named Mielle (me-[name_f]Elle[/name_f]) and I just drooled over it - so pretty! And the whole combo is fabulous - congratulations!

[name_m]Hi[/name_m],
My name is [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f] and my NNs are [name_f]Lulu[/name_f] and [name_f]Tula[/name_f], so it would be great if you named her this. I also love your middle name choices. My second favourite is [name_f]Luna[/name_f]. I don’t think [name_f]Perla[/name_f] flows very well. I hope this helps and congratulations on finally having a girl!

I like [name_f]Lyra[/name_f] [name_f]Primrose[/name_f] [name_f]Michelle[/name_f] the best. I love [name_f]Lyra[/name_f]! Good luck!
