[name_f]My[/name_f] husband & I have narrowed our list to our top 5 boys names & we’d love to get some feedback. We’re interested in how you would rank them in order of preference, as well as your impressions of each, & what country you’re from to add a little context. All opinions are very appreciated!! Thank you so much!!!
[name_m]Miles[/name_m] (I’d like to see this name stop being an “Old man’s name”)
[name_m]Milo[/name_m] (this name I think is a nice name that’s becoming popular fast?)
[name_u]Toby[/name_u] (A name I don’t hear very often but I like)
[name_u]Finn[/name_u] (At first I never got this name. Like a fishes fin? But then it grew on me and it’s pretty popular right up there next to [name_u]Flynn[/name_u])
[name_u]Ari[/name_u] (Last only because I think you might run into pronunciation and spelling complications)
I love your list: I’m from Australia, by the by :).
1.) [name_u]Toby[/name_u]: [name_u]Toby[/name_u] is so warm, genial and friendly: I absolutely adore it. He ages very well too, and every single [name_u]Toby[/name_u] I have met (only three, including an uncle) has been absolutely lovely, gentle, kind and considerate.
2.) [name_m]Milo[/name_m]: [name_m]Milo[/name_m] has a very similar feel as [name_u]Toby[/name_u] to me: warm, gentle, strong but kind. I think of [name_u]Toby[/name_u], [name_m]Miles[/name_m] and [name_m]Milo[/name_m] as ‘kind people’ names, if that makes any sense. The spunky final ‘o’ is charming too. There is a popular chocolate / malt drink in Australia called [name_m]Milo[/name_m], but it honestly doesn’t bother me, or anyone I know. I’ve met one [name_m]Milo[/name_m], who has been absolutely lovely.
3.) [name_m]Miles[/name_m]: Smooth and jazzy cool, kind, gentle, warm. [name_m]Miles[/name_m] is absolutely lovely, but I prefer [name_m]Milo[/name_m].
4.) [name_u]Finn[/name_u]: I like [name_u]Finn[/name_u], but I think [name_m]Milo[/name_m] and [name_u]Toby[/name_u] shine.
5.) [name_u]Ari[/name_u]: NMS (I’ve known several really bratty [name_u]Ari[/name_u]'s, so that probably doesn’t help). I can see its appeal, but I think that [name_u]Toby[/name_u] and [name_m]Milo[/name_m] are something very very special.

4.) [name_u]Finn[/name_u]: I like [name_u]Finn[/name_u], but I think [name_m]Milo[/name_m] and [name_u]Toby[/name_u] shine.

[name_m]Milo[/name_m] - a popular chocolate drink that I love. Interesting name
[name_u]Ari[/name_u] - not a fan
[name_u]Toby[/name_u] - cute!
[name_m]Miles[/name_m] - lovely unique name
[name_u]Finn[/name_u] - not a fan
[name_m]Milo[/name_m] - fun and jolly but a sense of professional too
[name_m]Miles[/name_m] - Same as above just more professional
[name_u]Toby[/name_u] - cute and laid back
[name_u]Finn[/name_u] - I like it just not sure why
[name_u]Ari[/name_u] - Not my style but I am more partial to [name_u]Arlo[/name_u] which I do love
[name_u]Finn[/name_u]- I love [name_u]Finn[/name_u]!
[name_m]Miles[/name_m]- I have a few boy’s named [name_m]Miles[/name_m], all have lovely people, very sweet tempered.
[name_u]Ari[/name_u]- Unusual and unique.
[name_u]Toby[/name_u]- Not really a fan, around here, [name_u]Toby[/name_u] is a stereotypical pet name, kind of like Fido or Rover.
[name_m]Milo[/name_m]- [name_m]Milo[/name_m] is a popular drinking chocolate here in Australia, I have a can of milo in the kitchen cupboard actually. So I find it hard to see it as a name.
[name_m]Milo[/name_m] #2 - masculine. A little less cool than [name_m]Miles[/name_m], less sophisticated, but more virile. But still it is a good name for a boy and a grown man.
[name_u]Ari[/name_u] #4 - I assume this is AR-ee and not [name_f]AIR[/name_f]-ee and not ah-[name_f]REE[/name_f].
AR-ee is a cool name and good for a boy and a man. It feels a bit incomplete. I predict minor issues with people’s pronunciation.
[name_u]Toby[/name_u] #5 - a kid. Nope. If I met a 40 yr old man named [name_u]Toby[/name_u] I could not take him seriously AT ALL.
[name_m]Miles[/name_m] #1 - good for a little boy and a grown man. Very COOL.
[name_u]Finn[/name_u] #3 - I’m neutral about this name. It’s fine.
I’m in the US. [name_m]Milo[/name_m] & [name_u]Finn[/name_u] are definitely my favorites–both charming and spunky. [name_m]Miles[/name_m] feels more conservative to me, but then I think of [name_m]Miles[/name_m] [name_m]Davis[/name_m], which enhances its smoothness and makes me like the name more. [name_u]Toby[/name_u] is cute, though I prefer it as a nickname. I’m not a big fan of [name_u]Ari[/name_u].
Thoughts:
[name_m]Milo[/name_m] + [name_u]Ari[/name_u] = [name_u]Arlo[/name_u]? nn [name_u]Ari[/name_u]
[name_u]Toby[/name_u] + [name_u]Finn[/name_u] = [name_m]Tobin[/name_m]? nn [name_u]Toby[/name_u]
[name_m]Milo[/name_m]–love this!
[name_u]Ari[/name_u]–sweet, especially as a nn for Ariston, an ancient Greek name w/great historical significance.
[name_u]Toby[/name_u]–the only name I detest more than [name_m]Jasper[/name_m]
[name_m]Miles[/name_m]–eh…[name_m]Milo[/name_m] is better.
[name_u]Finn[/name_u]–cute enough, but becoming somewhat overused.
I’m from awesome San [name_m]Francisco[/name_m], [name_f]CA[/name_f] USA
[name_m]Milo[/name_m] - #1 my favorite. agree w/ pp, this is masculine. also underused. sounds like a easygoing but capable person
[name_u]Finn[/name_u] -#2 solid name. easy to pronounce
[name_u]Toby[/name_u] - #3 IF it’s [name_m]Tobin[/name_m]. I don’t like [name_u]Toby[/name_u] alone that much, but pp suggested [name_u]Toby[/name_u] + [name_u]Finn[/name_u] = [name_m]Tobin[/name_m] which I like.
[name_m]Miles[/name_m] - #4 a little pretentious for me
[name_u]Ari[/name_u] - #5 sounds like a nickname. not substantial enough [name_f]IMO[/name_f]. doesn’t have a strong impression.
*pp suggested Arlo…which rocks
[name_u]Toby[/name_u]-warm and happy
[name_m]Miles[/name_m]-strong and elegant
[name_u]Finn[/name_u]-fun but pretty popular
[name_m]Milo[/name_m]-can’t help but think of the dog
[name_u]Ari[/name_u]-not a fan
[name_m]Miles[/name_m] - Very cute name and ages well too!
[name_m]Milo[/name_m] - [name_u]Love[/name_u] this name but it makes me think of [name_m]Milo[/name_m] and [name_m]Otis[/name_m]
[name_u]Toby[/name_u] - Not bad
[name_u]Ari[/name_u] - Almost feminine to me
[name_u]Finn[/name_u] - Overly used. [name_m]Just[/name_m] too popular these days. But if that doesn’t bother you, go ahead!
I’m in Northeast US. [name_f]Fan[/name_f] of more uncommon/eccentric names.
[name_u]Finn[/name_u] - I’ve long time loved all [name_u]Finn[/name_u]-variant names. They’re just classically beautiful boys names.
[name_m]Milo[/name_m] - I like the sound, it’s not too common either.
[name_m]Miles[/name_m] - Not so much a fan. Doesn’t seem like a good name.
[name_u]Ari[/name_u] - Not even sure which pronounciation this would be, ARRRR-e? I don’t like that.
[name_u]Toby[/name_u] - Such a boring name for me lol.
[name_u]Finn[/name_u] is my absolute favorite from that list, mostly because I can imagine it as a very cute nickname for [name_m]Finnegan[/name_m] [name_u]Finn[/name_u] seems good for a child, while [name_m]Finnegan[/name_m] is more grown up.
[name_m]Milo[/name_m] - This is my favorite off of your list. It’s uncommon but still familiar and ages well
[name_m]Miles[/name_m] - Not a fan but there isn’t anything wrong with this name but after [name_m]Milo[/name_m] it’s especially underwhelming
[name_u]Ari[/name_u] - uncommon and exotic but I feel like it’s a bit feminine much prefer [name_u]Arlo[/name_u]
[name_u]Finn[/name_u] - trendy/boring
[name_u]Toby[/name_u] - This name is dated to me
I do think that [name_m]Milo[/name_m] works as a nickname for [name_m]Miles[/name_m], and I would move them both to the number one spot and let [name_u]Finn[/name_u] have the second spot, because I love [name_u]Finn[/name_u] as well. [name_u]Toby[/name_u] and [name_u]Ari[/name_u] aren’t my style.
