I love the name [name]Elliott[/name] for a girl! You will get a lot of posts that it is an “all boy” name but I think it is a super cute girl’s name!
If you want it to be pronounced like [name]Eliot[/name], I would spell it Elliotte. With the spelling Elliette, you are most likely going to have people pronounce it exactly how it looks: [name]Ellie[/name]-ette.
None of the above. I don’t like [name]Eliot[/name] on a girl. Fab on a boy though. Your alternate spellings look like ellie ette or ellie otte
Your need to add unnecessary letters to make this boy’s name more “girly” or “appropriate” for your daughter suggests that you aren’t comfortable with giving her a boy’s name in the first place. [name]Both[/name] Elliotte and Elliette look goofy.
^^ this. Neither spelling looks very nice
I taught a girl named Elliette pronounced [name]Elliot[/name]. I think it’s by far the best looking spelling.
Yeah, I don’t exactly understand what you’re going for here. Adding extra 't’s and 'e’s changes the pronunciation completely. [name]Elliot[/name] is a boy’s name. There’s no way to make it more appropriate for a girl because it isn’t appropriate for a girl. I teach and tutor, and if I had a student on the roster named Elliotte I would assume he was a boy whose parents didn’t know how to spell.
Agree with this, changing the spelling doesn’t make it more “girly”
It just appears you didn’t know how to spell, which comes off as uneducated
Stick with [name]Elliot[/name].
I believe [name]Elliot[/name] can work on a boy or girl. The spellings you have posted are pretty, but I agree with southern.maple. You could give [name]Elliot[/name] a very feminine middle name so there would be a distinction between gender.
I totally agree with this.
spell and pronounce it like [name]Juliette[/name] - everyone will still get the [name]Elliot[/name]-ness and it will give you daughter some femininity.
[name]Eliette[/name] (with one l) is a legitimate French girls name so I voted for the Elliette option.
I meant to do this but accidentally voted for the other option!
Yes…one L! and that’s my vote
Exactly this.
It’s true. I think you should either go with the feminine [name]Eliette[/name], or else just own it, not care what other people think, and use [name]Eliot[/name] / [name]Elliot[/name] on a girl. It does have a pretty sound and I can see the appeal.
I would stick with either [name]Elliot[/name] or [name]Eliette[/name]. I’m not a big fan of either of the poll options.
Agree with above
[name]Don[/name]'t feel pressured to make it more feminine. [name]Just[/name] go with [name]Elliot[/name], [name]Eliot[/name], or [name]Elliott[/name]. It’s a boys name, no two ways around it. Speaking as a woman with a boy’s name, I think this is cute and wearable and you don’t need the extra letters. If you’re worried about it being too masculine then don’t use the name, but I don’t think it’s going to be an issue for her and I think she’ll even get the odd compliment or two. The “femine” spellings are too much so I didn’t vote.
